What About Michael Steele for RNC Chair?

I love Newt, and would be happy, but what about a new face on The GOP?

What about GOPAC Chairman Michael Steele for RNC chair? He knows the in’s and out’s of the Republican Party, he’s got good relationships with people like Fred Thompson and Newt Gingrich who could help with guiding us out of the wilderness, he’s an African American which would send a sign that we’re not just the party of the old white men.

Of course Newt Gingrich is an entirely different old white man. He’s someone who sees the future, who knows the issues and has led a conservative comeback in the past. He’ll embrace technology, encourage youth and diversity in our candidates, and stuff. Newt would be amazing.

I just admire Michael Steele and think he’d be great too!

I felt he should have been there already however you negate your point by bringing up his blackness and Newt’s whiteness….neither are important….Steele is the better pick because he does not come with the baggage Newt does!

If the way his campaign just handed the MD senate seat to Ben Cardin is any indication of how he will run the RNC, count me out.

Duncan didn’t do too bad of a job fundraising. Bush tanked it, not Duncan.

I’d suggest Norm Coleman (when they steal his seat). Unlike Steele, Coleman actually ran a strong campaingn and technically won. Coleman can help us make inroads among the Mid-West and Jewish communities.

      yes. Coleman is tough.

Not that I’m hoping he loses, but I don’t trust Franken and the recount. Its a lost cause with it in Franken’s hands.

I want Coleman to chair the NRSC if he wins though. All about image.

BUT the majority of us want an actual Conservative to run the joint!

I would be telling Steele to move into MD 01 district and run in 2 years its really his only shot at being an elected official in Maryland now

I think he would help party if he did this too.

To clarify ClassicConservative’s point regarding Steele’s senate run against Ben Cardin, this was not “handed” to him. Both were running for an open Senate seat being vacated by a democrat. In that climate in MD, it was surprising he did so well, as both he and Gov. Erlich were defeated.

Michael Steele was MD GOP Chair before he was chosen by Robert Erlich to run for Lt. Gov. Both of them put down a Kennedy (Kathleen Kennedy Townsend) for crying out loud.

Prior to that, he helped create an environment in Maryland where republicans in the state legislature were able to make a difference and fight against the majority-tide of liberal tax hikes and policies (does this not sound familiar regarding the next Congress?). That same network he built helped bring Maryland it’s first republican governor in 30 years!

Michael Steele for RNC Chair. Provided a successful term, he can run for MD governor.

Moderate is just image. The hell Coleman is moderate, look at what he believes. But he’s perceived to be a middle of the road guy.

And thats important with the independents and moderates in this country. In case you haven’t noticed, they think we’ve veered off into the right and far into the South.

But you of all people should know the RNC doesn’t really run the joint. They could do a much better job, but right now the best people conveying philosophy and exploiting the liberals are the GOP House members. Their stunt during the off-shore drilling debate generated more positive attention than the RNC all election cycle.

than I am in winning hearts and minds. Kill the combatants and then you can deal with hearts and minds in a peaceful fashion.

            We need a SURGE strategy.

But the battlefield is ideas, and the winning of hearts and minds requires the ability to generate and sell winning ideas, to expose the flaws and failures of the other side’s agenda, and to build grassroots-based consensus networks that will help push for political power for the Right Ideas and People.

I know Newt is up to it. He’s outlined the concepts in multiple books, and delivered at multiple times in multiple ways. From “Contract with America” to “Winning the Future” to American Solutions.

someday I hope we can say after one of his successes …

“Newt, you magnificent bastard, I read your book!”

who will approach the future with the same resolve and result as General Petraeus approached Iraq. And who will get the same result.

Since he teamed up with Algore on that rediculous global warming campaign I’ve really changed my mind.
