My California Dogooder Enviro-nut Nightmare

Ladies and Gentleman, I can now personally attest to the fact that the environmentalists are making the state of California absolutely unbareable to live in. My car registration was due in August of last year, I went and paid it and I was due for a smog. I took my car down to the smog station and when the guy opened my hood, he looked at me and said that if he ran the smog test, it would fail. I asked him if he could give me an explination and he said that because I have performance parts on my car, the car would fail visual. Now my performance parts were not “The Fast and the Furious” style illegal street parts, these were perfectly street legal parts. The guy doing the smog told me to go and take a closer look at the packaging and when I did, it said “legal in 48 states, excluding California and Alaska.” The big trouble was I inherited this car from my brother and these were his parts and I did not have the original ones. So between my brother and I, me in Orange County and my brother in Modesto, six hours away, we had to find all of the original parts to put in my car.

Meanwhile, because my tags were expired I was getting tickets left and right, I would walk up to my car to see cops writing tickets and I would have to go to them and beg them not to put the ticket on my car. I recieved one regular ticket and two parking tickets, one in Costa Mesa in OC and one in Modesto where my brother lives. I am a poor college student, so I went to the police station and asked what I could do to get the tickets reduced. The policeman kindly told me that if I got my updated tags, the police department would reduce the tickets to $10, he looked over the ticket and said there was no time limit, just to make sure I did it before August of this year.

We had finally found all of the parts in November and had put them on the car, I was literally two days from going to get my smog when my check engine light came on. A check engine light is an automatic fail in the state of California. I went to a mechanic I knew growing up in Modesto, and he ran the engine through a diagnostic and said while he couldn’t find anything wrong with my engine, he was dead sure turning off the light would just bring it back on again. He turned it off and sure enough on my way to OC it turned right back on. I took it to another mechanic down here and he said the same thing: my engine was fine and the check engine was coming on inexplicably. He turned it off and later that evening, it turned right back on again.

So, I drove around for FIVE MONTHS with expired tags, tickets on hand explaining to the cops that stopped me that this was in process and I’d get it done as soon as I could figure out what was going on. I had all of my mechanical friends take a look at my car and they couldn’t figure it out one of my friends familiar with the smog process took a look at it and said it should pass smog, no problems. Finally when one of my headlights when out, I happened to be in Santa Rosa visiting my parents with my brother who was visiting them at the same time. We opened the hood and my brother had a revelation. The headlight that needed to be replaced sat in front of the battery and the battery had to be removed in order for us to replace the headlight. My brother said removing the battery should reset the check engine light. Sure enough, we removed the battery and the check engine light disappeared and has not come on since.

My Dad took me to get my smog and it seemed this was finally over! When I went intio the DMV to get my smog check done, the lady at the counter informed me that I had to pay $325 in unpaid parking tickets. I told her what the police had told me and she said that was fine, but she could not give me my tags until my parking tickets were paid in full.

So now I’m in the process of working that out with the police, but I have a feeling I’m going to have to pay that $325 before I get my tags. 10 months after I paid my registration and I have still not gotten them because of the ridiculous environmental standards that have been placed on us here in California by the Green Gestapo and an incompentent bloated beauracracy!

Your car was modified, you didn’t get it fixed in a timely manner and you continued to drive it around with expired tags. Man up and quit whinning. You sound like a spoiled liberal.

and I didn’t mean to whine, but the point is the rules don’t have to be the rules in California. The only reason they’re the rules is because with modified parts on my car they don’t meet California’s unrealistic emmissions standards that have been imposed on us by Environmental nutcases.

I paid my registration on time. I was ready to get a smog and in any other state in the country (other than Alaska) I could have gotten it smogged and it would have passed.

It’s not the fees and the tickets that bug me as much as the silly standards and the fact that I hear one thing from one branch of government and another thing from another.

in Alaska. Your car does have to meet the federal standards in Anchorage, and, yes it is a hassle, but I’ve literally gotten sick from all the CO when traffic is heavy in very cold weather there. Hell, most of the State doesn’t even enforce requiring current tags and registration.

and it makes me sad, because like I said in a post below, I love the state of California.

We just passed Tort Reform. The State isn’t faring half bad as most. Could be redder here, but it definitely isn’t Blue.

I was just talking to some fellow Conservatives on this very subject. We need more of us. We’ll also take some Independents, and maybe a few fair-minded Democrats.

We are concerned about the illegal population, of what might come after the 2010 national census. After that, we predict there will be a cry for Amnesty when so many claim they are under-represented. And politicians who stand to gain will take every advantage.

Imagine if that is allowed to go through. Then States like mine will become disenfranchised quick, maybe losing a Congressman to Arizona or California when they suddenly comes up with tens of millions of additional people. Possibly more.

Does someone know the answer to this? Please tell me. I think it might be once a census takes place, any additional population would have to wait 10 years for the next one. But look forward in time, to 2020, and expect that to come up. Heck, it might happen prior to this census if they think they’ll get away with it. Being a Red State, they would love to take away as many of our Congressional seats as possible.

This almost feels like sitting down to a poker game, being forced to play someone else’s bad hand, and finding out the other players have gone all-in. Can’t bluff, or fold. Gotta just win. Or lose.

Now that the idiots have totally screwed up Kalifornia, they’re moving here in droves and complaining about it not being like Kalifornia. We’re fighting the same budget battles in the legislature as Kalifornia.

The only difference is we have the casino industry to mooch off of, so things haven’t gotten quite as bad economically. But they’re getting there. The legislature just vote to increase taxes on business, room taxes, vehicle taxes, etc….

        We’re already Kalifornia lite.

I’m eyeing Texas and maybe Florida if we get a conservative in the State House there.

we will just secede and rejoin Mexico. Granted Mexico is not such a great place but the central government is pretty ineffectual.

(Heck if enough of you move in we won’t be forced to join Mexico, but you better hurry cause its a race between conservatives and Mexicans)

so many morons escaping bad policy but being too stupid to change their voting behavior which then CORRUPTS the areas they move to: exporting/expanding BLUE-ism — shaping elections to come Not to mention how ACORN will be working to pad Blue-State (and even Blue areas in Red or Purple States) numbers.

Lot’s of open precinct committeeman slots in the Republican Party!
    Open carry.
“Shall issue” concealed carry. Takes 4 hours and about $100 for the course and fees and a license that lasts 4 years. Renewing is easy.
    Lower taxes.
    Less regulation.
Tucson is very liberal. Come to the Phoenix area instead!

    • Josh LeGuern

I’ll be around later this summer to come check the Pheonix area out. Based on what I’ve read, I like the Scottsdale area in Pheonix Metro. I’ll tell you, I wouldn’t mind going to Pheonix! I grew up in the Central Valley here in California, so I’m used to the heat!

I love my home state! It’s just becoming less and less feasible to live here! Part of me wants to stay put so that I can be part of the change that’s coming for this state!

People who don’t live here automatically assume it’s a blue state and in some parts, it most defintely is. But if you traveled through California and met some of the people, particularly in the Central Valley and Southern California minus Los Angeles county, you’d see the red parts of California are REALLY red.

I lived by the beach in L.A. Could surf in the morning and in two hours be skiing. Mt. Waterman and Kratka Ridge. Lived in CA for ten years.

Politically, though, CA suffers from the fact that the large liberal urban areas eclipse the conservative rural areas (and Orange County) and, thereby, control the state, It’s L.A. and San Francisco versus the normal non-urban parts. The state has been gerrymandered so that the Dems will always rule the legislature. Indeed, known crooks get re-elected. I know a guy who got arrested in Hollywood with a hooker giving him oral sex in a government car and he got re-elected. Kevin something or other. Remember the idiot who directed the fly-by in NYC recently with Air Force Two and a couple of F-16s? Louis (or however he’s now speliing his first name) Caldera? He was a gun-grabbing CA legislator until he got term-limited. And I’m sorry to say he’s my classmate. Got reelected every time in East L.A. because he was a “well-spoken” liberal Dem with the right kind of last name. And then he proceeded to try to pass the most onerous gun control laws possible with the help of the “non-partisan” L.A. County Bar Assn. I told him he was violating his oath of office. He just didn’t agree. That’s the way libs “think.” It’s all about post-Modernism. They don’t believe in anything except power. Sad.

    Thank you.
