Michele Bachmann’s Record.

To borrow a phrase from the President: “Let me be clear…” In fact, let me be absolutely crystal clear: I would vote for Michele Bachmann over Barack Obama any day of the week. She would have my enthusiastic support if she is the nominee, because then it would come down to principle: Michele Bachmann’s got the right principles. She’d be MILES better than Barack Obama.

But let’s not sit around and pretend Michele Bachmann has a stellar record in Congress. She hasn’t accomplished much of anything in her three terms in Congress and while two of those terms have been under the most liberal President we’ve ever had, to my knowledge, despite proposing some great sounding laws, she has never seriously tried to shepherd through the process. As I understand, she has also requested quite a few earmarks and pork for her district. For a lawmaker in the Republican presidential primary, these have to be serious considerations and I don’t think Tim Pawlenty was wrong in pointing that out.

Don’t get me wrong: I like Michele Bachmann, as I said, I would vote for her in heart beat over Barack Obama. But we have better undeclared candidates with far more substantial accomplishments in their positions of leadership than her. Let’s not forget, we rightly criticized Obama for spending a short amount of time in Congress with no serious legislative achievements to his name before ascending to the Presidency because he had phenomenal oratory from a teleprompter. It would not be the most prudent thing to do the same.

With Pelosi as speaker? What has been the legislative “record” of any conservative House member during Pelosi’s tenure?

Further, we have too many laws. A real record would be repealing much of what we have, something that would never happen under Pelosi’s watch and certainly wont happen with our current President.

Her record is actually stellar in terms of opposing increases in the debt ceiling, voting against the bailouts, stimulus packages, etc, etc. In fact, one would be hard pressed to find very many GOP members of the House or the Senate who have a voting record as conservative as hers.

nmcowboy, i was about to make the same point about bachmann. i am a right wing tea partier so you KNOW i dont like moderates. and michele bachmann seems to be right in line with everything that i think a true conservative is. and i personally think she would do a great job as POTUS.

You will note that the Dems were doing all of that for socialized medicine when they were of power.

You don’t wait around for a majority before you do things. You do things so that you get a majority.

If you mean Perry, why not just come out and say so? If not, then who are you talking about? Either way, rather than just criticize a candidate, you should offer up some reasons as to why your candidate would be better.

Palin’s record of achievement is way more extensive than Bachmann’s.

      I also like Rick Perry.

I didn’t mention either because in Palin’s case in particular, I find some on this blog’s reaction to Palin to be weak-kneed (“she can’t win! The media hates her!”)

and she walked on water as well. Surprised you forgot that amazing accomplishment.

enough to convince anyone to support your candidate. You said “we have better undeclared candidates with far more substantial accomplishments in their positions of leadership than her.” I’m asking you to support your statement. If either Perry or Palin are your candidates, tell me what you consider their substantial accomplishments to be.

As for Obama’s record, my objection to him was not based solely on his lack of any legislative record, but also a total lack of any executive experience other than, as he said, running his campaign and his far-left ideology.

For the record, I’m undecided except for who’s on the bottom of my list. From the bottom up, that would be Paul, pretty much a 4-way tie among Romney, Johnson, Huntsman & Roemer, and then Gingrich.

“passing bills in Congress” as a record of achievement.

Michele Bachmann’s “record” happens to be different from Pawlenty’s, or someone like Rick Perry’s or anyone else. It is entirely a user-input judgement to determine which of those records is better.

Further, it seems to me that using “undeclared candidates” to judge actual declared candidates is a fool’s errand.
