MEMBER DIARY

America Needs an Obama vs. Newt Race.

Baring some salacious detail coming out of the pipeline, I will be supporting Newt Gingrich from president next year. I have already written about why I think Newt would be a good candidate on his own, and I think he is a good candidate and he’d make a good president. But one of the main reasons I am supporting Newt is what it would do for America.

Throughout the race, Newt has refused to attack other Republicans, he has refused to delve into the politics of personal destruction (with good reason, he’s got a lot of baggage) and successfully refocused the debate on policy. He doesn’t even let MSM moderators off the hook, if their premise is off base he has successfully, within the minute allotted, rebuked the premise and reframed the issue. That’s not to say he’s afraid to get into the mud, he’s addressed personal issues when they come up, but he has an ability to refocus the conversation.

This lack of fear of attack and the ability to refocus the debate is CRUCIAL now more than ever for America. We have not had a serious presidential election that actually addressed the issues facing the country and the philosophy behind the policy since 1984. I was not born by 1984. Presidential elections the last quarter century have been more American Idol than a weighty consideration about the future of our country and the solutions needed to make us peaceful and prosperous.

While President Obama will talk about “income equality”, Newt will turn around and ask how exactly that creates jobs. When Obama talks about the need for America to apologize over seas, Newt will ask the president how  this ensures peace for America. Newt will engage the president head-on, reject the premise of the issue set up by the Democrats and their friends in the MSM and present a conservative vision for America in a way that hasn’t been done in a long time.

Can Newt Gingrich be the president? I think so. But I also think that the debate against Obama is incredibly important for the country to see.

He will do it with facts, history and articulation.

Regardless of who our nominee turns out to be, when Newt proposed his 7 one-on-one, Lincoln/Douglas style debates with BHO, I was hooked. This MUST HAPPEN, not only to expose the “Fraud-in-Cheif” for what he is, but to expose the entire progressive/socialist movement, including its propaganda arm, the LSM. “Bold colors, not pale pastels.”

I’ve always liked Newt and I bristle everytime some wet-behind-the-ears, so-called “conservative purist” refers to the “Contract With America Fiasco”. They were probably still in diapers at the time the “Gingrich Revolution” broke a 40 year stranglehold the democrat party had on congress, voted on all 10 items of the Contract within the first 100 days, as promised, passing 9 through the HofR, reformed welfare, despite 2 vetoes by Clinton, shot HilleryCare down in a ball of humiliating flames and balanced the federal budget for 4 consecutive years – someting not accomplished in the 40+ years prior.
His reward for this unprecedented boon for conservatism?
Well, lets just say I’m still waiting for that.

Newt caught lightening in a bottle in 1994. But he didn’t do it alone. With these debates, and with our help, I think he can do it again in 2011.

… I think he can do it again in 2012.

….given that the more Newt’s own problems are known, his own corrupt dealings and lifestyle, the sooner he will drop. Nonetheless, he does make a fine debater, that is for sure.

Please provide the details of his “corrupt dealings”. Please include actual “evidence” of corruption in your reply. And no, the fact that he earned money as a private citizen, violating no law in doing so, does not constitute evidence of corruption, no matter how much your mind is molded by left-wing spin.

As for his “lifestyle”, I presume you are referring to his three marriages? Of course, by not specifying, his “lifestyle” could mean almost anything, couldn’t it? Pedophilia? Vegetarian? Wild drug filled kinky sex orgies? No it sounds much more sinister to refer to his “lifestyle” than to simply say he has suffered two failed marriages.
“He who is without sin, cast the first stone.” I applaud you nathan. It must be very rewarding to be the first since Jesus Christ. I think you might want to work on another of His virtues: forgiveness.

…his $1.3 million dollar receipt of funds from Freddie Mac to be a “historian” for them should start. Others have also detailed in other diaries on here about the money he received from health care companies like Blue Cross and Blue Shield for “access to Newt.” That doesn’t pass the smell test of crony corruption to me. What about to you, or to the Republicans at large?

And yes, by his lifestyle I mean his marriages, including committing adultery with at least two of his wives (one of whom for about six years by my understanding). That shows an inability to be honorable to oaths, including the oath of office to defend the Constitution. In addition, his spending habits and his encouragement of his wife’s spending habits at Tiffany’s is also troubling, especially if that money came from his corrupt corporate dealings (see above). Is that specific enough for you?
