Why Newt may be down, but not out.

There are many pundits who are predicting that Newt could be out by tonight, and that is certainly a possibility. Afterall, Newt has been the recipient of the pretentious Romney attack machine that drove the other candidates to hate him in 2008 and he may want to get his revenge by getting behind Perry, just as Rudy and others dropped out early in 2008 and got behind McCain to stop Romney. But I think counting Newt out is premature for a number of reasons:

1) Newt has got $9 million in the bank. That’s a decent sized war chest going into South Carolina and Florida. It certainly does not match Romney’s money and even Perry’s money, but it is a good amount to remain competitive. Plus…

2) Newt has gone on the offensive against Romney. No one has touched Romney with any consequence thus far in the race and Newt has realized simply relying on a positive campaign without drawing a contrast with your competition is not enough. Newt will and SHOULD finally contrast Romney’s record with his, while also laying out his positive vision for America.

3) Where would “peeled-off” Romney support go? The vehemently anti-Newt support reconsidering Romney may go to Perry, but I think much of the neutral Romney support will go to Newt.

4) Debates begin again this weekend. This is typically where Newt has shined. He has to have an INCREDIBLE performance and he’s got to go after Romney. If he does that he’s still very much alive.

With much of the voter base undecided and looking for an alternative, don’t expect Newt to drop out just yet. It’s certainly possible, but unless he does terribly, don’t count him out.

Well, I doubt Newt actually has $9 in the bank. That’s what he raised, but some of that will have been spent. I agree that he’s far from out. This race has been so wild, anyone who makes predictions at this stage is being silly. I could find paths for all of the remaining candidates but Bachmann to win the nomination. I hope to see Newt weaken Romney in NH and then win SC and FL.

I am a big Newt fan. I know his baggage very well, yet I also know his political gifts. In my opinion he is the only one who can stop Romney or Obama for that matter.

I don’t think Newt will be out of it just yet.

I read on another site yesterday that he had stated a comment indicating that he would go “nuclear” on Mitt Romney, and I’m actually to the point of believing he would be doing us all a service if he did. As vicious as the Obama campaign was in 2008, they’ll be 10x that vicious against the Repub candidate next year.

I don’t want Romney to be the winner of the nom, but at least we’ll know this much…If Newt does go after him, at least some of the dirt the Dems might be intending to use would be out in the open before the general election. And we’ll all get a chance to see how well Romney and his team hold up to that kind of treatment as well. They sure aren’t going to get it from the MSM or even a lot of Conservative pundits for that matter. Too many of us, even on the Conservative end of the spectrum, think of Romney as our “safety net” or last line of defense.

No one has touched him yet on his RomneyCare that dramatically increased administrators but not doctors and nurses.

Not even his spending $50K of his own money against Steve Forbes’ flat tax (even though Romney was not running for office at time.)

Nor Romney’s plan to destroy Health Savings Accounts by allowing that money instead to be used to buy traditional insurance (Again putting an insurance company between you and the care that your doctor thinks you should receive)

ROMNEY IS THE DAVID SOUTER OF CANDIDATES (Pretends to be conservative to get nominated but then turns his true colors. LIBERAL)

About a year and a half ago I stood and watched Misters Gingrich and Perry share a microphone during a book signing event at my local Barnes and Noble. (Mr. G. was much more impressive that day.) Ever since, I have assumed some sort of kinship and, while each is now playing to win, I do believe there is an (internal) common goal to be addressed prior to the ultimate common goal next November.

    I?m just sayin??

Over Perry at this point I believe. While neither got rave reviews in Iowa, and neither can rack up numbers in Virginia (unless lawsuit is in their favor), I think gingrich may have upper hand. He’s really good at debating and he can pick up some votes in NH.

Plus, this whole idea of Perry getting two “state” checks at the same time is disconcerting. He may have earned a “retirement check” from being a public servant but to also get a governor’s salary at the same time is wrong. That’s the kind of thing I would want him to stop – double dipping. I’ll forgive an ooops in front of a camera, but don’t claim to the people you’re seeking fiscal austerity in government and then allow stuff like this.

Lord knows Newt’s got his own issues especially with the Freddie Mac contract. And enough ex wives to half field a hockey team. And, Santorum has to answer for a blotchy voting record. I just think Newt may be better equipped to deflect his issues while not making any more.

to discuss Newt, Huntsman and Perry so its my opinion money will flow to one or more of them if these people are serious about taking Romney out.
