Sweet Meteor of Death looking more likely…

Last night was a huge night for Rick Santorum.

He has now won 4 primaries/caucuses (3 non binding) winning the most states out of any of the candidates.

Santorum has also not experienced the intense scrutiny of being a front runner that is not named Mitt Romney. He’s going to have a lot of the establishment on his tail, plus he’ll have the GOP Death Star aka Romney setting his sights on him.

Truth be told, Romney can’t afford to go as negative on Santorum as he did Gingrich. Should Romney do that he will look truly entitled to the nomination. Expect him to be more subtle with his attacks on Santorum.

Meanwhile Santorum doesn’t take well to criticism. He gets irritated rather easily and doesn’t like it when he’s challenged on things he believes in. Plus, expect Newt to point out, respectfully, Santorum’s support of the Progressive Income Tax, his support of earmarks (going as far as saying he’s proud of his earmarks), and his statist-ish views on manufacturing. Newt can also point out that while he took steps to reduce the federal budget in the 90s, Santorum voted for debt ceiling increases throughout the Bush administration.

Look for Newt to try and make a comeback while pointing all of this out and while Santorum dukes it out with Romney.

I think we can expect Newt to pick up a few states on Super Tuesday and if he gets to the magic number 5, he’ll keep his campaign alive, money or no money all the way to the convention. He wants Romney challenged.

Though the establishment will want to make sure no one else puts their name forward at the convention, expect some GOP outsiders to put their names forward. Expect Ann Coulter to write columns about how it’s Chris Christie’s duty to put his name in.

I still think Romney’s the likely nominee, but SMOD just got a little boost last night didn’t it?

The vote totals there technically didn’t matter, just the people selected to go to the county/state conventions months later.

Sorry..disagree last night proved to me that Romney looks less and less likely the nominee. Sorry people like you just do not get it. He is not the choice of the overwhelming majority of conservative voters. All people like you think is Romney has money and organization. BUDDY he had that in Colorado and Minnesota and he still lost. What is it to people like you that do not understand? Romney is not trusted and not liked. With all his money I thought yesterday should have been a cake walk…BUT HE LOST AND HE LOST BIG!! And buddy Romney “DEATH STAR” turned on himself with his “very poor” comment and now Rush is reporting back in 2005 when Romney, AS GOVERNOR, as part of Romneycare also tried to force Catholic Institutions to give contraception to victims bought into their facilities in an “emergency” despite the the institutions deeply held religious beliefs. Again, ROMNEYCARE sounds just like OBAMACARE!!

Santorum voted with Bush to support Bush. I would like to see Rick move to Newt’s tax policy. But Romney’s attacks are wearing thin and getting old. He did attack Rick in Minnesota calling him “not conservative” what a joke from a liberal from Mass.

Like Rush is mentioning Mitt is not liked and I am sorry I thoroughly disagree with you. Mitt is looking more and more vulnerable. The Midwest and South, maybe outside of Michigan, are not going to be friendly to the tin suit.

Go conservatives…we need to defeat Romney. In the national polls he keeps falling as well. Like Rush said as well, Romney has more in common with Obama all the time and if he was running against Obama he would have less and less to contrast with Obama!

That is a recipe for loss!

I have watched Newt since RR brought conservatism to power and Newt picked up the baton and carried it to Congress. Newt balanced the budget inspite of an entrenched GOP and a liberal Clinton. Newt beat Clinton and balanced the budget. He also got votes on the contract with America. I think he lost his seat because he was too conservative. He pressed on in spite of a hostile press and a so-so Congress. His downfall was the storm over closing the government spigots. Don’t we conservatives-all of us-wish he had been successful then so we wouldn’t be neck deep in debt now.

Since then he has promoted o balanced budget and an anti establishment government that actually governs. He is terrrriffic.
So why does he get bad mouthed so often? Well he is conservative.
But, lets take one example: I have heard several times that Newt said Ryan’s plan was just wing social engineering. That is perverse and typical. Newt was asked “if Obama’s plan is just left wing social engineering because it is being shoved down the throat of an unwilling voter, what about the Ryan plan if a majority didn’t want it?
Newt answered: that would be right wing social engineering. In other words the will of the people should be heeded. This perverse mis-use of the event may explain why Newt is not liked> He is Conservative. He is effective and he is not afraid to make a conservative stand and say so. Of course the government machine wants to make him look bad. I read his books-he is smart and well able to carry the fight to Obama and win. Why would we choose some other, weaker candidate again?

He double-crossed conservatives over the 1997 budget deal and he bet on Clinton’s impeachment being a big win in ’98 and lost. That’s why he fell from power.

His own personal baggage makes him a compromised individual, but outside of that, the reviews of his Speakership from other conservatives is spotty at best.
Also, newt comes across as a man with a huge ego. That make him disliked.

A lot of people have personal baggage, most people have baggage. It just doesn’t always come to the surface.

Newt’s has been very public, but he’s made his peace with God. Let’s stop it with the damn “baggage” argument.

proposal is both REALISTIC and better than Romney’s wimpy proposals.

Cain’s 9-9-9, flat tax, FAIR tax … nice ideas – zero chance they will happen. We might as well discuss what the best plan we can come up with that is realisitc.

    It’s Santorum’s 2 rate plan.

“expect Newt to point out, respectfully, Santorum?s support of the Progressive Income Tax, his support of earmarks (going as far as saying he?s proud of his earmarks)”

If Newt does that he will be a hypocrite, since he pioneered uses of earmarks, and continued the progressive income tax while speaker and has no serious proposal to change that now. Perry, not Newt, came out for the flat tax last fall.

      Read his plan.
