I have nothing to add to this, just read the whole thing:
The traditional media are playing a very, very dangerous game — with their readers, with the Constitution and with their own fates. The sheer bias in the print and television coverage of this election campaign is not just bewildering, but appalling.

Whoa.

I find that reading the comments on many of these ‘news’ stories is a very good gauge of both sides of an issue. In short for this one, the Right is grateful, but do not hold out much hope that the MSM will ever be unbiased or even fair - too far gone.
The Left however, is friggin’ unhinged. They truly believe that the MSM is shilling for McCain and that Biden is a beacon of clarity while Palin is a gaffe-o-matic. They think the press was right to eviscerate JoeTPlumber for his ‘attack’ on obama but no concern about obama’s actual answer. This is some pretty delusional stuff.
We have reached a point where neither side can give quarter to the other. It’s time for the Right to start looking inward with the same vigilance and determination we have looked outward for so long.
Amazing link...
Laura Sunday, October 26th at 3:35AM EDT (link)Don’t know how you dug it up, JPH, but thanks for the link! It’s refreshing to know that even some journalists recognize that there is no such thing as unbiased journalism…as has been especially apparent in this election cycle, since mid-primaries at least.
I’m not sure when it will be “safe to go back into the waters” again as a news consumer. My skepticism is at an all-time high. Any suggestions on what it might take to have you tune in again to the MSM evening news without cringing or screaming?
Meanwhile, I couldn’t be more thankful for RedState, Drudge, and a (small) handful of what seem to be reliable, even if not wholly Conservative websites!
Malone is honest, but I doubt his editors motives
Marcus_Traianus Tuesday, October 28th at 7:20AM EDT (link)Certainly, it appears Malone has provided his frank and honest opinion on the matter. I give him credit since generally this would get a reporter exiled to “Omaha”. However his timing is also impeccable for the sole reason it serves his editors purpose. As an aside, I would be curious to learn when Mr. Malone wrote this and his editors approved it for print, but that’s just me. Overall, too little too late, and here is why.
I am surprised it took this long for one of these “journalists are dishonest and we know it” articles to appear. We have the most radical Presidential candidate ever, who combined with a potential Democrat Party majority could negatively impact this country for generations. His ideas and opinions on our country are not widely disseminated beyond sound bites, flowery speeches and jaded recitations. I have frankly learned more about Obama’s background and history form the so-called “alternative” media than the MSM. They have clearly held back on stories which could potentially expose Obama to more scrutiny and allow people to actually cogitate on what his ascendency would mean for our country.
Now they are becoming nervous for several reasons. Number one, people realize the MSM is dishonest, their influence is waning and companies are largely becoming financially insolvent. Finding out all this ignominious background on Obama after the election, when as Malone noted, the press is currently exploring Mrs. McCain supposed weaknesses or Mrs. Palin’s shoe size (no offense, but who cares) will be the coupe de grace for their industry.
Lastly, and most importantly Obama’s policies are a recipe for economic disaster, especially in this economy. His disregard for the Constitution, as noted in the recently discovered audio (some guy in his basement, by the way. so much for investigative reporting) is just plain scary. How can a person pledge to protect and defend the Constitution when they see it as fatally flawed? What does Obama want to change in order to fix those alleged flaws? Questions perhaps a real journalist would ask him, but then they would be banned. Oh yes and while your at it, might as well ask about his views on freedom of the press. Better yet, don’t because you will just mimic whatever disengenous prose he articulates with a few more adjectives, while getting tossed from the room of course. Honestly, what a bunch of a..clowns.
I believe some in the MSM see the potential for a very large train wreck if Obama succeeds. They have all along reassured passengers this ride was safe, despite knowing the track was running out. Those dumb bumpkins are going to realize the press was complicit in advancing such a destructive and fatal act. When that happens the villagers are going to show up with pitchforks, burn down the castle and put a stake through their hearts. This is most likely the coming retribution which will render the MSM to a mere shadow of their former selves. So sad, really.
Sorry to be so prolix JPH. Great catch, I was reading honestly reported news elsewhere and missed this.
“Both of our political parties, at least the honest portion of them, agree conscientiously in the same object—the public good; but they differ essentially in what they deem the means of promoting that good. One side believes it best done by one composition of the governing powers; the other, by a different one. One fears most the ignorance of the people; the other, the selfishness of rulers independent of them. Which is right, time and experience will prove.”.Thomas Jefferson

send a message
redlady Tuesday, October 28th at 8:12AM EDT (link)I have an idea. When John McCain wins this election all conservatives and McCain/Palin voters should select a date and time and proceed to cancel newspaper subscriptions and cable subscriptions on the same day and time. Imagine what a message that will send to the media if we get 1 million people to participate. I think some group needs to head this up and issue a statement that the media bias was so unfair in this Presidential election that we refuse to listen to them anymore unless they have objectivity. Think about poor little Katie Couric without any money to spend or job for that matter!
Yeah!! Thanks for posting.
CTmom Tuesday, October 28th at 8:24AM EDT (link)Everyday my husband watches Hardball, and out of curiousity I watch, too, but I am starting to feel like pounding my head against the wall instead of watching, it is sooooooo frustrating. It is sooooooo unbelievable all the stuff they are ignoring. If the Republicans had been in charge of Congress and had blocked regulation on Fannie and Freddie before this horrible collapse, we would have front page news everyday about who took what from whom and what they did to enable the collapse, these corrupt politicians would be celebrities in a bad way and Obama’s going along with them would be detailed (if he were a Republican)and his candidacy would be a joke. But since they are Democrats, people don’t even get enough information about the lead up to the collapse to even understand what happened.
Last night, Matthews made a huge deal about “Is Ted Stevens’ corruption trial going to hurt Republicans?” I was screaming at the TV. At least we let Republicans come to trial!!!! No respectable Republican supports what Stevens did!!!! The Democrats still have what’s his face from LA sitting there with no censure and virtually no news coverage. His butt’s probably frozen from the frozen cash he’s got in his wallet.
Fox news is a little better, but they seem to do a lot of celebrity news and they follow other coverage, just less biased. They don’t seem to start news stories, where are the legions of reporters making a comprehensive story line of Obama’s life.
Yeah!! Thanks for posting.

New York Times rated as junk bond
ecartman Tuesday, October 28th at 12:43PM EDT (link)Modern economics always catches up to outdated ideology as bond rating agencies have rated New York Times debt as junk - the lowest possible ranking.
Recall that the same agencies have rated other useless debt as Triple or Double A so to be rated as junk by these same agencies means the NY Times bonds are worth less than used toilet paper.

Flagstaff Wednesday, October 29th at 12:13AM EDT (link)the Evening Broadcast News on the alphabet networks. Until then, only a few hundred thousand people are even aware of this. When Katie and Charles and Brian lead off with this kind of story, then there will be some honesty in reporting.
Pluto, the Ninth Planet - Forever!
I quit watching broadcast news years ago.
Flagstaff Wednesday, October 29th at 12:27AM EDT (link)My news comes from Fox News channel and the internet, primarily links from RedState. I know I’m missing something, but it’s hard to say I miss it. When I listen to NPR or PBS, I usually find puff pieces slanted to make the Left look right. The double standard is blatant.
Fox News is far from good, either. As someone above pointed out, they don’t initiate any of those investigative forays into the Democrat World either. They just report the hypocrisy on the part of the others.
They ALL fail because they no longer report facts or the news they’ve dug up, they simply report what Dem’s and Pub’s are saying about each other. Even my local rag has run some articles trying to identify truth and fiction in local political ads. And those articles are almost as biased as the ads themselves. They just can’t help themselves as they put positive spin on Dem ads and negative spin on Pub ads.
Pluto, the Ninth Planet - Forever!
Win or lose, that's not a bad idea.

Pluto, the Ninth Planet - Forever!
Think about the first amendment--
Flagstaff Wednesday, October 29th at 12:46AM EDT (link)Now, try to figure out how to improve on a free press, even one as one-sided as ours. There really isn’t any way to do so, as long as it is possible for “anybody” (rich enough) to publish a paper or buy a radio station or TV airtime.
Nonetheless, with great power comes great responsibility, and the US press has failed its responsibilities miserably. The amendment mentions “freedom… of the press,” but it says nothing about an honest press, and there is the rub.
So I call upon the richest and bravest among us on the right to establish a major newspaper with a Conservative bias, and I challenge the rest of us to buy the da– thing. If Nueharth can do it with USA Today, shouldn’t he have some competition?
The NYT is going broke. Surely there is one Conservative who has enough money to step in and take it over. Even the Wall Street Journal has leftists producing the news articles–Ruppert Murdoch, DO something about that, and you will have a newspaper worth reading that will challenge USA Today for circulation and profit.
Pluto, the Ninth Planet - Forever!
Great points, Flagstaff!
Laura Wednesday, October 29th at 1:02AM EDT (link)The only thing is, that I think I’d like a return to Walter-Cronkite-style unbiased journalism than a new “conservative rag.”
The thought of something that is worth the ink it is printed with being as broadly distributed as the USA Today, though…that gave me pause, and a smile.
But would we have all those pretty graphics and dumbed-down articles, too?
:0)
Well, I don't know that Walter was so unbiased.
Flagstaff Wednesday, October 29th at 1:18AM EDT (link)Perhaps he misinterpreted his data. He certainly misled the county and snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
Acording to McCullough’s John Adams, newspapers in the early days of the republic were just as biased and unprincipled as they are today, except there were some advocating for both sides. I have my doubts that a truly “down the middle” reportage would thrive (although it might survive) against rabid partisanship. Our society seems well attuned to adversarial relationships, from the sports fields to the courtrooms. the papers do need to at least be reasonable, however. That is no longer the case in the MSM.
Or I could be wrong.
Pluto, the Ninth Planet - Forever!
I would watch Fox News, too...
Laura Wednesday, October 29th at 1:20AM EDT (link)…if I could stomach paying money for 100 channels of stupidity and filth on cable or satellite.
(OK, and college football. I do like the football. But that’s so few months of the year, and my boys aren’t always televised, anyway.)
But I digress.
My secret wish is that Rupert Murdoch will turn “Fox” (broadcast) into a cleaned-up, boiled down “Fox News” at certain hours. (Even just Hannity & Colmes…no Geraldo, no Greta, thank you. I can even do without the bold fresh piece of humanity.)
But until that happens, I, like you, will only tune in to the “big 3″ or to PravdaBS or NPravdaR for a glimpse at the whitewashing. (Or for must-see events like debates, conventions, and election night frustration.) Then it’s back online I go, so that my blood pressure doesn’t spike higher than Olbermann’s sarcasm.
(Oh, and one last, somewhat related thought. Couldn’t they have kept Sunday Night Football Olbermann-free? I mean, would that have been so hard? Didn’t someone know that I would react to that kind of like if Osama bin Laden was weighing in during pregame? Anyone ever heard of an Olbermann detector like a carbon monoxide detector…to keep what is invisible but toxic out of my home???)
True, it's just that Cronkite
Laura Wednesday, October 29th at 1:30AM EDT (link)(supposedly) watched himself closely, being careful so as not to even punch a word in a story that would belie his personal bias.
Or maybe that’s just a great story that I was sold at the liberal university that I attended…. With the huge J-school….
Ahem.
OK. I’ve lived awash in bias so long that I’m holding out hope for a return to a brighter past that was virtually gone before I even tuned in. I’ll admit it. (I think I was 12 when Cronkite retired.)
Also, point well made about biased media throughout our history. Goodness, read the Federalist Papers if you want a glimpse at the vitriol that was slung at the Founders…by the Founders!
I’m still hoping for that little freebie broadcast on airwaves-Fox, and I promise to subscribe if you get the rightie rag published!

Sorry the other posted 3x, 1 more thing
CTmom Wednesday, October 29th at 8:35AM EDT (link)I just saw another media mea culpa on Politico, I think, so maybe it’s trendy for outlets to admit they’re biased. But they still aren’t going to cover the Obama camp in an unbiased way before the election, so people can make an informed decision. And after the election… every program is going to be a howling success, and if that isn’t credible they will keep the ghost of George Bush alive for years and years to explain any problems.
Excellent!
Andrew Bolton Wednesday, October 29th at 9:09AM EDT (link)It is hard for me to say, but our very liberties are now at risk due to the misuse of the freedom of the press. Contradictory? No, if the trend continues, those who doubt the group think will be silenced–in the media and physically. No one will be left to complain.

Day late and a dollar short
fisk2521 Wednesday, October 29th at 10:58AM EDT (link)All this seems to me to be a day late and a dollar short. Finally someone from the mainstream media , ABC, actually acknowledges the terrible bias during this campaign - - 1 week before the election.
How gratifying and admirable …— we have watched Obama and his machine get by with offering no substance about what he truly represents and , criticism being declared racist before it is out of the gate…the press complies…particularly ABC who is unashamedly working for his election.
We can all just declare it ‘unfortunate’, but I believe it is far more damaging to our country and deserves a blaring spotlight on who was complicit and why. This is REALLY the story of this campaign…including Obama’s lack of integrity in allowing it to happen.
This is undermining our entire culture and democracy….call me a racist, a right-wing whatever if you want, frankly I don’t care anymore. These labels are MEANT to end any in depth conversation. I find myself among many, many Americans who are questioning our basic institutions….newspapers, tv news, financial institutions, politicians journalists, school systems, religious institutions.
At a time when the financial world crisis is frightening all of us about our future, the last thing we needed was a press that blatantly undermines our Democratic process with news that biases the elections that will determine our very future.
Thank you Mr. Malone for your honesty…but where in hell have you been?
