Specter to Bachmann: “Act like a lady”

A joint radio appearance with Representative Michele Bachman and Senator Arlen Specter turned ugly yesterday when the Pennsylvania Republican-turned-Democrat became irate and demanded of Bachmann that she “act like a lady.”

The pair were invited by Philadelphia-based conservative talker Dom Giordano for a special program marking the one-year anniversary of President Obama’s inauguration.

Asked by Senator Specter to reflect on the fiscal policies she supported over the course of the previous year, Bachmann said the recipe for economic prosperity would involve cutting the income tax rate to 22 percent and eliminating capital gains taxes and the estate tax. But before she could go any further, Specter interjected and began criticizing the substance of Bachmann’s answer.

“Now wait a minute,” Specter said to Bachmann. “I’ll stop and you can talk. I’ll treat you like a lady. So act like one.”

“I am a lady,” an unphased Bachmann replied.

“My question to you was what did you vote for,” Specter pressed, to which the Minnesota Republican promptly shot back: “I voted for prosperity.”

“She said, ‘I voted for prosperity.’ Well prosperity wasn’t a bill,” crowed Specter.

The Minnesotan’s next question, however, sent Specter reeling. “Well why don’t we make it a bill?” she asked, evidently before the senator had a chance to finish speaking.

“Now wait a minute, don’t interrupt me,” he said. “I didn’t interrupt you. Act like a lady.”

Audio of the exchange was made available Thursday by the Star Tribune.

the Left, NOW, NARAL, PSNBC, et al if Tom Coburn had told Babs ‘I’m dumber than a box of rocks” Boxer to act like a lady.

Hmmmm….I’ll get back to ya in about a month.

    • penguin2

decorated General, testifying before Congress? Oh, yes she wanted to be called Senator, she had worked hard for it…..

Rep. Bachmnn was very ladylike, after all she did not treat Specter like the swine he is.

      • eburke

        “Ma’am”.

‘Course, it was probably the first time anyone has ever *called* Babs “I’m dumber than a box of rocks” Boxer “Ma’am” so between that and her single-digit IQ, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that she thought it was a term of derision and chauvinism.

So, riddle me this, penguin. Why are conservative women overwhelmingly intelligent and hot, and liberal women are overwhelmingly ugly and stupid? Ever notice?

        • joayn

Ever watch the Democrat conventions? Burned forever in my brain is the sight of these womens dancing the Macarena (sp?) at the convention in 2000. Far too many of their female kind have been BAMMED.

the thought of the thought of the sight has me losing my appetite.

question, but she is without peer on that. My best answer would be that we think on things, and our ‘beauty’ comes from knowing how to laugh at ourselves, and seeing the simple joys of the world.

And you, good sir, have banked a lot of points with your assessment of conservative women. :)

My own take on this subject is that conservative women are intelligent and attractive because they recognize and appreciate what being a woman means. We value our need to nurture, to protect the family, to learn all the skills that we may need to do those things. And that’s a list that goes from grocery shopping to medical knowledge to learning how to use a gun for defensive purposes. Conservative women see no limit in what we can do without having to act like men to get there.

Conversely, we also refuse to have some man tell us how to behave according to his own wishes. By the time we’ve worked and raised a family, taken care of a house, made the many sacrifices necessary to do those things, we are not going to sit down and shut up just because the likes of a weasel such as Arlen Spector airs his ignorance on the subject. Indeed, he’s fortunate that Michelle didn’t decide to put him in a headlock and give him noogies.

          • penguin2

she didn’t tell him she could wipe the floor with him and hang him out to dry, and then go pick up her children from school. Now that would have been just tacky of her if she had said that. :)

Ya gotta get the resume spiffed up; maybe get down to Kinkos and run off a whole bunch of copies; retire early so you don’t have a certain black mark on your resume; try not to dwell too much on what the job market is like right now for 120-year-olds with no real-world experience…

Specter is truly an unprincipled scumbag that values nothing, but power. He is the opposite of the wonderful Michelle Bachmann, who along with Sarah Palin, Jim DeMint, Mike Pence, Jason Chaffetz, Tom Coburn, Rick Perry, and Tom McClintock are real leaders and people of principles and not career scumbags like Arlen Specter. Arlen Specter betrayed Republicans and the people that chose him over Toomey in 2004. It is time for Arlen Specter to be defeated. My question is do you want to see Arlen lose to Sestak or Toomey? I would like to see Toomey beat Specter personally, but if Sestak won the primary he would be much easier to beat.

    • The_Gadfly

I want Toomey to beat Specter like an old rug. I think Sestak will actually be the more difficult candidate to beat because he won’t carry Specter’s baggage. Traitors and turncoats are typically valued only for their propaganda value, not their potential leadership. This point is not lost even on dim witted Dems.

  • muffin

That should get his head spinning like Linda Blair’s.

  • dwander

According to rasmussen reports, Specter is behind Toomey by nine. Toomey is also ahead of Sestak by eight. This is looking promising!

    • eburke

I’m sorry, that’s just not possible. There’s no way that Toomey is up on Specter by 9. Conservatives like Toomey just can’t win in a blue state like Pennsylvania.

      Just ask John Cornyn.

      • dwander

You’re right! I may need to go back and re-read and gain a better understanding. Or it could be that I am using a non dim approved poll. :-)

  • monstermom

Otherwise Bachmann was justified in answering the questions asked of her – even if she had to talk over Specter to get her answers in. In a polite society Secter would ask his questions, Bachmann would answer, and there would be an exchange of ideas rather than 2 people talking over one another. Specter seems to have forgotten his manners.

    • Ivan Yurkenov

      …do NOT pick on ladies.

      Ivan

      • monstermom

She won’t expect to be patronized, but if she wants to play with the big boys she’d better be prepared to take some hits and give it right back.

Bachman did great and showed that she’s no one’s patsy (not that anyone whose followed her political career would ever question that). Specter showed that he’s an old fuddy-dudd whiner.

  • Ivan Yurkenov

…with the rest of simpering, whiny, pathetic excuses whose only claim to manhood is their genitalia. These so-called men who populate the Democratic party just exude estrogen. In fact, the most masculine Democrats I know are women. Think, Janet Reno standing next to Lanny Davis and you get the picture.

that one of the accidental benefits of my moving from Connecticut to Pennsylvania is that I get to vote that a-hole Specter out of office. (I didn’t know at the time that Chris My-Home-Loan-Interest-Was-Special? Dodd would see mene mene tekel upharsin on his walls and decide to get out before the Special Investigation started)

I have despised Specter for awhile, along with McCain, for their willingness to cast votes with Democrats (sometimes seemingly just for spite) and counter the efforts of true Republicans and Conservatives. I was very surprised that the old fool decided to actually come out of the closet and declare himself a Democrat (duh. who’d a thunk it) as he seemed to delight in his crypto-leftist role like as if he was playing James Bond behind the lines on a mission.

Off hand shot: Sarah Palin campaigning for McCain? More and more each and every day, I am regretting any praise I expressed for this woman. Another commenter elsewhere made a VERY interesting point: Sarah made her political hay AGAINST REPUBLICANS only. I think her actual politics is one of moderate left with some right ward leanings as far as foreign policy and SOME fiscal policies. Her reasons for being against the Health Reform baloney may not be rooted in conservatism. I have become one of the 60% or so that doesn’t want to see her run for office.

    • MF

“I think her actual politics is one of moderate left with some right ward leanings as far as foreign policy and SOME fiscal policies.”

Huh? Not a chance! She’s NOT in lock-step with the Republicans, but frankly, in a good way. She’s very conservative socially, and she’s also willing to stand up to the Beltway Repubs (those who favor Charlie Crist and Dede Scozzafava). She doesn’t care whether “that’s the way it’s always been done” and cares more about how it SHOULD be done. She’s constantly battling against big government.

What “moderate left” positions do you see?

    • janis

went over the Dark Side. That’s where he was before deciding to become a Republican in the first place. And whether or not you wish to see Sarah Palin run for office or not, you might want to consider that she’s been on the national scene for just over a year. It’s a little early to declare her off limits permanently.

I’m not campaigning for her, but I’ll be happy to give her, as well as others, more time to see how they shape up on the issues.

  • tecash

About the quality of intelligence in PA that they have voted in this guy for so long. Wonder if they will show the rest of the country that they have brightened up up a bit and get rid of this scum bag ASAP! Spector is everybit as much of a slimeball as Pelosi, Boxer, or Reid! He is close to being as much of a slimeball as Obama and if PA gives him another term, he may equal Obama.

    • Ausonius

If there are enough morons in an electorate, they will tend to vote for a moron.

Such indeed explains the repeated presence of Specter, Reid, Pelosi, the Mainiacs, Boxer, etc.

There is a case to be made for repealing the direct election of senators. On the other hand, we do now see that, at times, morons can be sharpened: the election of Scott Brown!

when this video starts making the rounds on YouTube for thousands to see. I would think that Pat Toomey might go up another 2-3 points. Part of Boxer’s closer than normal reelection may be due to her prime time video with the General. Arrogance does not set well with most people.

  • toughintn

    1. He accuses someone else of using talking points, since the Left loves to accuse opponents of their own sins.

    2. He has but one weapon in his arsenal to “win” an argument: childish verbal harassment.

Even with that said, Specter has lost his mind. If he had spoken to any liberal female with such disdain and retro rhetoric, he would have been hauled out in handcuffs.

Still, I wonder if this will cause him to drop out of the race. His new best friend Barack may decide Specter’s a liability and twist that arm into submission.
