It’s the economy stupid (again)

McCain going tough, but on the right issues?

An Oct. 4th Washington Post article reports that Senator McCain and his Republican allies are “readying a newly aggressive assault on Senator Barack Obama’s character, believing that to win in November they must shift the conversation back to questions about the Democrat’s judgment, honesty and personal associations…” Where Senator McCain scored points on these issues in the past I’m not so sure he’s going to be able to tip the issues scale back again in the midst of this economic climate today. The ignorant mindset of too many voters and the endless drum beat from the MSM has easily strapped this “crisis” around the White House. The questionable bailout, if a fix at all, will not remedy much in the economy by November and so the economy is now the number one issue until election day.

If McCain attempts to deflect economic issues by firing back with only statements on Obama’s character flaws (like Dole did with FBI file issues on Clinton)it will be perceived by many that he has no economic solution of his own. The link between the Housing crisis back to both Obama and the Democratic party and the link of Obama’s tax plan to people’s pocketbooks can be made into easily digested sound bytes for both McCain’s speeches and debate strategies. It does not require a degree in economics to understand the disaster of Obama’s economic plans. If the economy is the number one issue today then so be it. McCain should meet the issue head on with Obama and not run from it.

No one should be surprised by this poll

Shock Poll: Jews Now Favor McCain in New York, 54-32

Considering who Obama has surrounded himself with, this poll should not be a surprise to anyone.

Here’s a quick list:

General Merrill “Tony” McPeak

Zbigniew Brzezinski

Robert Malley

Rev. Wright

Not exactly an all star pro-Israel list from what I’ve been able to find.

Here’s the article about the poll:

What Sarah Palin’s dad told her

the secret to failure

There are many reasons for the Palin sensation and the one that stood out to me most during her RNC speech was her unapologetic attitude. That’s been something in short supply in politics lately and I’m sure it was part of what people called “fresh air”. Then yesterday while watching the “Green Room” interview of Palin on Charlie Rose’s web site I learned where it came from. She said; “My dad said right when I got elected “I don’t know what the secret to success is but the secret to failure is trying to please everyone”. Pleasing everyone has been on the rise in politics but in a country so polarized it becomes increasingly difficult to accomplish. But when people smell leadership you’re almost guaranteed more than half to follow if you can put up with the heat from those who oppose you. This is why Sarah holds the approval rating in Alaska that she does.

Today I read that the Obama team is going to sharpen the tone and go after McCain but this only harkens me back to the Dole/Clinton election. Similarly it was becoming apparent that Dole was on his way to a loss. He resorted to ramping up his criticism of his opponent which proved to be ineffective. The Obama team doesn’t understand that they haven’t slipped do to a soft posture from Obama, they’ve slipped because someone came along and grabbed the moose by the horns. (pun intended)

Thank you Mr. Heath for being a wonderful father.

Pig stories from the mouths of babes

As a former school teacher I can tell you that if you ever want to know what parents are saying inside the homes of your community listen to the kids. Last night my son comes home from school and says “all the kids talked about today was how Obama called Sarah Palin a pig.” This from a school system in a county that went for Clinton, Gore, Kerry. Left or right, among those of us who pay close attention to politics I’d be willing to bet most of us feel Obama did not intend to call Palin a pig. But many are only casual observers of politics and gaffes like Obama’s can kill a campaign in the eyes of these types of voters. Statements like these combined with Biden’s declaration that Hillary would make a better VP choice makes one wonder just how off their game are they? And if a Hockey Mom can jolt them this much how are we to trust them with the rest of the world?

Note to the left: Palin is your best bet to keep creationism OUT of the schools

On the anti-Palin “too little too late” list is the topic of creationism and how an elected Sarah Palin will shove the topic into our school systems. They’ve completely ignored Sarah’s statement “doesn’t have to be part of the curriculum” and in a campaign this close to an election date that’s understandable. Desperate times call for desperate measures as they say. But if the left is really uptight about creationism in schools they had better turn their attention to across the pond at what’s going on over in the UK.

Richard Dawkins, the Oxford professor and evolutionary scientist has criticized Muslim parents for “importing creationism” in the British school systems.

“Teachers are bending over backwards to respect home prejudices that children have been brought up with. The Government could do more, but it doesn’t want to because it is fanatical about multiculturalism and the need to respect the different traditions from which these children come.”

What party here in the United States do you think promotes a government of that nature? The list of sources revealing the increasing impact of the Muslim faith in the UK is long and it doesn’t stop there. In predominantly Muslim areas of Britain there is a high level of support for applying sharia law as well. Religious police anyone?

The left’s love affair with the EU (when it’s convenient) and multiculturalism could certainly thrust creationism into American school systems faster than a VP who said it doesn’t even need to be there. The question for the left is, is it creationism you’re worried about or Christianity?

Obama and abortion: walking the walk with babies.

It was sunny early afternoon in 1992 when the phone rang from the local hospital. They informed me that my wife just gave birth to a boy weighing less than two pounds. Because she was months away from full term the moment seemed like I had slipped into a dream like state. I thought soon this moment would be over but moments later I realized it was here to stay.

As I read through the news articles only hours after John McCain’s pick of Sarah Palin it took less than a minute to find the screams about her stance on abortion. Then a few days later I listened to the interview of Jill Stanek, the nurse at a hospital in Illinois. As I listened to the story of Obama’s opposition to the Born Alive Infants Protection Act my mind slipped back to 1992 for a moment.

My son Kevin was born in 1992 at less than two pounds. I can’t recall how many weeks along my wife was but it was less than 7 months. From that point we were to spend most of our attention to the neonatal care unit he was in for the next 11 months. The education I received during those 11 months has changed me forever. Never did I realize just how hard the human body fights to stay alive. For 11 months we were exposed to the world of neonatal care in both Allentown and Philadelphia, PA witnessing the incredible work of nature in these tiny bodies. We watched babies so small overcome what seemed to be the impossible and the emotions when we saw a family finally take their little one home was overwhelming. But there is a dark side in this experience which is what snapped my mind back to the past over the Obama story.

Never think for a second think that these tiny children don’t feel pain. Don’t allow anyone to delude you into thinking children this size don’t cry, scream in pain (with what vocal chords they have), reach out for you, feel comfort when they hear a voice or are touched. Nothing I had on my list of life experiences could have prepared me for those 11 months. It takes more than I ever realized to stop a life within the tiniest of these children.

Do any of you recall the anti-fur commercial from back in the ‘80s? It was the one with the footage of baby seals being beaten to death. I was horrified with that commercial. Some time later I began to think why no one puts a commercial of an abortion on TV? The obvious answer is it would be over the top! That commercial sent a message that said “if you want this then at least know how it comes to be.” We’re shown up close the ugly sides of life on our TV at times but never with the abortion issue.

My message to those who support abortion practices as far left as Obama does is to walk the walk. Spend a few months in a neonatal intensive care unit or observe a partial birth abortion in progress. Get out from behind the TV and internet and see life up close first.
