I will never forget NY-23

The candidacy of Doug Hoffman, who ran as the Conservative Party nominee against pro-abort, uber-RINO Dede Scozzafava was a killer for me. She dropped out and endorsed the Democrat. I cried when he lost. If you don’t remember just do a little Google work, but I think most of you do (here’s a sample). I sent him money, I called his campaign office and talked to his staffers, I was on his email list. It was my first realization that from that moment on … NO politics were local. What happened in that district “somewhere in NY” could potentially mark a point in time when the tide turned and the Every Man could make a significant impact.

And I remember how enraged I was when Newt Gingrich mocked us. Tried to destroy Doug’s candidacy. Endorsed and praised and supported that abomination of a women. Not once. Not a couple of times. For weeks. And he … was “on our side.”

I’ll never ever forget that. Neither will Stacy McCain. Neither will Michelle Malkin.

We all have our reasons for why we have stayed active in the Tea Party all this time, when it’s tough, when victories seem few and the winning of The War seems Soooooo far away. If it’s achievable at all. For me, one of the reasons at the very top was Newt Gingrich’s smug, condescending, elitist treatment of Doug Hoffman, Doug’s supporters, and me during that time. I will never forgive him for mocking a good man, and for the harm he did to the conservative movement. For using his bully pulpit on all the networks to prop up a pathetic excuse for a Republican and bash regular folks who supported an ordinary conservative patriot.

As long as Newt and his ilk think they know better than I do, that their experience as an American counts more than my experience I plan to stick around to convince them they are wrong, and if at all possible, because that’s the kind of girl I am … to rub their elitist noses in it when the opportunity presents itself.

You know I loved the “Rebuke in Debuque” … an ordinary guy walked up to Newt and had this exchange:

Guy: Speaker Gingrich, what you just did to Paul Ryan is unforgivable.

Gingrich: I didn’t do anything to Paul Ryan!

Guy: Yes, you did. You undercut him and his allies in the house.

Gingrich: No, I…

Guy: You’re an embarrassment to our party.

Gingrich: I’m sorry you feel that way.

Guy: Why don’t you get out before you make a bigger fool of yourself.

Here’s the clip from Fox News.

I hope Newt burns out fast and gets out of this race. My loathing for him rivals my loathing for any of the progressives who are trying to steal my liberties. Newt could have use his position and power for good, instead he used it for self-aggrandizement, and is now harming anew our chances to save and restore our country by attacking Paul Ryan and all that the tea party has achieved since 2008.

Go away.

I contributed twice to Doug Hoffman’s campaign and was *furious* when Newt threw him under the bus. I immediately canceled my on-line subscription to Newt’s newsletter. Some minor mistakes can be forgiven, but this was major. I’ll never pull the lever for Newt, no way, no how.

cancell my subscription. I called his office and told ‘him’ why I had cancelled. Karenmartin keep up the good work.

was and still is. They stonewall anyone who wants to be a member of it. You will not find State Party Bylaws on the NY GOP webpage and as well as many County GOP web pages.

Let’s not forget it was the County Chairmen who nominated Dede for that race. It was a real eye opener as to why Conservatives need to govern the GOP.

Note: The broken down NY GOP is well on its way to losing another special election coming up.

his problem is he can’t stop thinking. A person with his mind can’t stay put at the Constitution and the ideas of the Founders. It was bound to happen, he is now thinking himself right out of the primary, and the party.

He never had a chance anyway, his time was long ago and even then he never showed an ability to lead or win friends.

…and actions do speak louder than words. We ignore political history at our peril. Obama may be the leading example, but time and time again we allow smooth talking and selective memory to overrule sound judgment.

Thank you for this reminder. I have a similar “never forget” regards Santorum dating back to 2004, but I won’t hijack your excellent diary to elaborate – just a reminder that we all need to “remember” what we “never will forget” when the turning point arrives.

With NY23, Newt let us know exactly what he really thinks of Conservatives, and he continues to let us know. Honestly, he’ll use us if he can, but he kinda thinks we’re stupid.

    Screw him.

  • JadedByPolitics

the reason to put him out in the barn but its hard to choose which foul behavior is more disgusting since he is such an inside the beltway elite! THOSE elites are who WE will be defeating each and every election, no matter the letter after their name!

TWICE he broke bread with that trash and once with the other trash

everyone but himself is stupid. As angry as I was (and still am) over this one of many cases of Newt throwing conservatives under the bus, I am even more sad that this intellect which could be a game-changer in American politics has such little discipline.

Another example of why we SHOULD look to one’s personal life as an indicator of their thought processes. If one cannot honor commitments and vows to an individual, they will certainly place no importance to public commitments and vows.

I also donated to Doug’s campaigns, travelled across the state to gather signatures, made phone calls, etc. However, let’s not forget the OTHER lesson we need to take away from NY-23. One that is playing out right now, closer to my home, in NY-26.

In the 2010 election, Doug lost the primary, but stayed on the Conservative ballot, siphoning votes away from the Republican primary winner. Had Doug dropped out of the campaign and thrown his support to Matthew Doheney, this seat would have been another Republican pickup for NY.

We in the WNY tea party (the REAL one, not Jack Davis’ party) require candidates getting our endorsement to agree to drop out if they do not get a major-party line. I wish Doug had done this.

  • 20jan2013

Romney and Newt leave Doug hanging in the wind and now they want us to work for them to win the presidency?

    POUND SAND, Newt and Mitt!

  • acat

so are definitely fair game in an election.

Two potential GOP candidates are known to have messy personal lives, Gingrich and Giuliani… While I’d not have a problem voting for either over any Dem in the general, I don’t see a need to reward flawed characters in the primary.

Newt sure does a good impression of an idiot.

I was there at a table in Hotel Saranac with “The Other McCain”, Robert S. McCain, on the night of the election. I felt the crushing sadness that a good man had come so close but was not elected. I met folks throughout that district and saw the courage of those who came not to beat the Democrat, but to draw a line in the sand for the idiots who were calling the shots for the GOP at the time. I remember what a piece of garbage Scozzafava was as a candidate and as a person. I remember Newt standing beside her even after the deepest cave dweller realized just how much of a leftist she was.

I also remember Romney’s reluctance to get involved. And yes, I hold that against both Newt and Mitt.
