I hope Ohio conservatives are happy now

Repeat after me: Center-right beats far left.

I understand the frustration conservatives have with Mike DeWine.  Really, I do.  But it drives me crazy when conservatives refuse to see the reality of the playing field.  Conservatives grumbled and attacked Mike DeWine with venom every chance they got.  And I am confident a number of them refused to vote for him.

Well, now Sherrod Brown is going to provide the vote that allows Porkulous to pass:

The Senate is one vote shy of the 60 needed to pass the economic stimulus bill. The last vote needed: Sen. Sherrod Brown.

Brown, D-Ohio, is currently in Ohio, attending the viewing for his mother, Emily Campbell Brown, who died Feb. 2. Brown will fly to Washington, D.C. to cast his vote tonight – in an airplane provided by the White House – then fly back to attend his mother’s funeral tomorrow.

Why the White House ride? Commercial airplanes wouldn’t accommodate the schedule, and the White House provided a plane because it’s official business.

As I have said until I am blue in the face: center right beats far left everytime.  And yet many in Ohio seem to think otherwise.

This is the same attitude that contributed to Steve Stivers losing in his bid for Congress.  If the GOP is to be a majority party in Ohio again it will have to reassemble the center-right coalition.  Otherwise, the left is going to win by default.

Voinoviches, Dewines, Grahams, McCains, and the rest of the squishes in congress so we can say we’ve wone something when in fact..WE LOSE

Here’s a clue for ya big boy…the Dems got 60 votes on this pig…yet they only have 58 Senators voting now…and here’s another clue for ya…it wasn’t conservative senators that put the Dems over the top.

I take your point that it’s time for some party loyalty….but it’s not conservatives leaving the reservation and thumbing their nose at the rest of the party! so yeah…let’s have some party loyalty…and lets expect it from the RINOS for a change!

there will be two or three more RINOs on their knees servicing him when the time is right…It’ll be a different set of RINOs but we’ll take it in the backside either way!

when the Democrats couldn’t have succeeded without three Republicrats dancing to Ried and Obama’s tune….

Yes we need a coalition….but not at the expense of principle….We’ll never know how Dewine would have voted for this…but it is a 50/50 prospect as to which side he’d have been on because he was always as bad as Snowe, Collins and Specter ever were! and to blame Conservatives for this passing when it was three RINOs that made the difference is too infuriating to be ignored!

Dontcha get it. If these three are Repubs, then why the vote?

I look at these three in particular and I all I see is defeat and despondency because they are always on the other side of us…Specter has a 40% ACU rating…why is he even in our party?

It’s a way of saying “I just don’t get it”….It’s a way of saying I’m too dumb to understand the arguement that we need to put these traitors on power so we can win because we never win with them in power….

It’s a sarcastic point that I’m to stupid compared to the Washington and northeaster establishment elites since they’ve all gone to liberal ivy league colleges and been educated to lord it over the resat of us…

missing the point

Kevin Holtsberry (Diary) Saturday, February 14th at 10:23AM EST (link)

The point is that with DeWine we had a chance to stop Porkulus with Brown we did not. DeWine might have been a squish on some issues but I very much doubt he votes for this monstrosity. Even Voinovich voted no. Dewine was pro-life Brown is abortion on demand, etc.

I am all in favor of getting the most conservative and electable candidates we can field. But when it comes down to center-right versus left it is just suicidal to let the left win. I simply fail to see how having Brown win helps conservatism at all. This is no standing on principle but cutting off your nose to spite your face.

And now we have Brown installed in the Senate seat and it will be incredibly hard to dislodge him.

Let me say it again...

AceInTX (Diary) Sunday, February 15th at 9:46PM EST (link)

to twist the fault for this travesty to somehow be the fault of Conservatives is infuriating and asinine!

The thee vote the Dummycrats neede to put this thing over the top were Republicans…and whether DeWine would have voted for it is a shot in the dark at best.

What's your point, Ace?

Neil Stevens (Diary) Saturday, February 14th at 10:29AM EST (link)

No, seriously, what are you saying the problem is, and what is your proposal to fix the problem?

Clearly defeating DeWine didn’t fix the problem.

I don't know what the solution is Neil...the reason for my knee jerk reaction here is the idea that the passage of this mess is somehow the fault of Conservatives...

AceInTX (Diary) Sunday, February 15th at 10:00PM EST (link)

Sorry it’s take so long to reply…

You are correct that defeating DeWine didn’t help…but it’s not clear that it would have made any difference either. Dewine was always a question mark when it comes to this stuff…and even if he’d have been there to vote no…one of the other RINOs would have stepped up to the Bipartisan plate to give the Dems the in field home run they needed to run the bases!

But to somehow say that Conservatives are to blame when it was 3 so called “Moderate” Republicans that tipped the balance is incomprehensible and so infuriating as to be indiscribable!

The “Big Tent” analogy isn’t the correct one…the correct one is a MAGNET…we need to be a MAGNET that draws these independents in who are sick and tired of what’s going on in WashingtonFred Thompson

Ace I don't think it is conservatives fault

AKSteveB (Diary) Sunday, February 15th at 10:33PM EST (link)

but people are casting the RINO net too far. Specter, Snowe, and Collins aren’t center-right, they are liberals. The DeWines, Grahams, and even McCains of the world are. I think we now know where the lines are drawn.

I disagree AK

AceInTX (Diary) Monday, February 16th at 3:14AM EST (link)

The problem is…when Snowe Specter and Collins are with us…it’s on an issue where McCain Graham, and Dewine stray from the reservation…that’s the problem with our side…because on almost every issue we have a different set of “Mavericks” and it’s usually just enough of them to throw the issue to the Democrats and leave us holding the bag!
