While the headlines are providing a constant rotation of Trump, Milo and Steve Bannon some other important stories are quietly chugging along, being reported but not being paid much attention to.

One such story is the current race for the Chair of the DNC, vacated by Debbie Wasserman-Schulz. Minnesota congressman Keith Ellison has been the media front-runner for the position, presumably because of his status as black man and a Muslim. Republicans and Democrats alike have cheered this possibility, though for different reasons.

Democrats think Ellison’s ethnic and religious labels will signal the party’s “progressive” theology and attract more enthusiastic voters.

Republicans see it as a tone-deaf move that would just be another nail in the coffin of the DNC.

Not all Democrats are on board with an Ellison appointment and a couple are even running against him.

Pete Buttigieg is one of the youngest mayors in America (South Bend, IN) and has been endorsed by Howard Dean to fill the position of DNC Chair.

Reporter Dave Weigel was at an endorsement event Friday morning with Howard Dean and Buttigieg and caught Dean being typical Howard Dean, flailing and shouting and seemingly overexcited. However, he also caught something interesting – Dean saying an endorsement from Chuck Schumer is the kiss of death.

He goes on to explain how Schumer tried to force Dean to send $5 million to the DNC instead of spending it on local races. Dean, of course is too principled for such a thing.

Here is the short video. We here at Redstate are looking forward to the sequel to the 1995 Nicholas Cage movie “Kiss of Death”, tentatively titled “Kiss of Death 2: Primal Scream” starring Howard Dean and Chuck Schumer.
