Health Care Rationing hidden in Stimulus Bill. Obama says WWII generation too old for health care.

Posted below is part of Betsy McCaughey’s opinion commentary on Bloomberg.com. You can read the entire piece here.
The Senate approved the bill today so unless this part is removed in negotiations with the House of Representatives then many elderly Americans might get turned away from treatment for being too old.
Elderly Hardest Hit
Daschle says health-care reform “will not be pain free.” Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them. That means the elderly will bear the brunt.
Medicare now pays for treatments deemed safe and effective. The stimulus bill would change that and apply a cost- effectiveness standard set by the Federal Council (464).
The Federal Council is modeled after a U.K. board discussed in Daschle’s book. This board approves or rejects treatments using a formula that divides the cost of the treatment by the number of years the patient is likely to benefit.
Treatments for younger patients are more often approved than treatments for diseases that affect the elderly, such as osteoporosis.
In 2006, a U.K. health board decreed that elderly patients with macular degeneration had to wait until they went blind in one eye before they could get a costly new drug to save the other eye. It took almost three years of public protests before the board reversed its decision.
Hidden Provisions
If the Obama administration’s economic stimulus bill passes the Senate in its current form, seniors in the U.S. will face similar rationing. Defenders of the system say that individuals benefit in younger years and sacrifice later.
The stimulus bill will affect every part of health care, from medical and nursing education, to how patients are treated and how much hospitals get paid. The bill allocates more funding for this bureaucracy than for the Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force combined (90-92, 174-177, 181).
Hiding health legislation in a stimulus bill is intentional. Daschle supported the Clinton administration’s health-care overhaul in 1994, and attributed its failure to debate and delay. A year ago, Daschle wrote that the next president should act quickly before critics mount an opposition. “If that means attaching a health-care plan to the federal budget, so be it,” he said. “The issue is too important to be stalled by Senate protocol.”
Anyone want to talk about how compassionate Democrats are now? What about all the stories run by the MSM every four years about Republicans wanting to reduce Medicare benefits.
Obama is running around demanding $1 trillion in a stimulus bill so he can save us from a depression. Well what’s more depressing than your own government tell you that you’re too old for medical treatment?

Kenny Solomon Tuesday, February 10th at 5:24PM EST (link)I bet somebody in the administration actually thought of just that and brought it up during their “if-we-had-half-a-brain”-storming sessions.
I also bet that somebody in the administration is a big fan of the movie Soylent Green and that approach to things.
————————-
Facts: As of today, it’s taken over three months to get my Dad set up to become “Medicaid Pending” (we’re not even there yet) so we can divert his Social Security and VA pension to the nursing home he’s been in since November. In the mean time, we’ve been on “private pay”, which means a total of over $7,000 per month just for his care there - that’s well over double the total household income, including mine - I got rid of my place and moved in with them awhile back in order to care for them.
Mom goes in the home with him (same room) by the weekend - she’s in not too-good a shape either. I’ve a check cut for the nursing home already for 30 days to cover her. After that, the rest of their money is gone and I’ve blown through all of mine providing in-home care for them both over the past 2-1/2 years.
Note: How does a Son say to his Mom, “One day within a week or two, I’m taking you to the nursing home not just to see Dad, but also to move in.” ?? I’ve done it and it’s not as difficult as you might think. It only took me a week after to be able to look at myself in a mirror.
Anyway, when they were working, long-term care insurance didn’t exist until the last few years of their working time and when policies did start up, they were told they were over the age to qualify to buy any. The one insurance agency that would have written a policy would have charged literally 75% of their income annually.
So why am I venting ?
Am I looking for a handout ? No ! Absolutely not.
What am I looking for then ?
Actually, not all that much when you think about it truthfully………..
Efficiency and compassion from the people in charge of “safing’ those who cannot care for themselves.
Example: It took multiple calls, letters and e-mails to receive - after over 6 weeks - a single page document from The VA regarding my Dad’s pension. Over 6 weeks for something that gets pulled up from a computer and could have been printed and faxed within a minute or two after establishing ID and authorization.
Forced-dealing with many departments of “the government” (Local, State and especially Federal) in my quest just to know my parents are cared for (I simply can’t do it at the level they need, or I would continue without question) has been “interesting” at best.
I’ve come close to ‘going postal’ a few times just from the sheer indifference and uncaring attitudes of people on the other end of the phone/letter/e-mail/fax.
……………..all that with the systems now in place.
Just think how easy and great all things are about to become under the magic unicorn handler and rainbow sprinkle pixie dust spreader known as Captain Eloquence ; a.k.a. President Government.
Cheers !

My whole deal now is that as long as I know she’s safe, I’m ok. I know my Dad’s being taken care of properly.
Now then, in which freezer did I the fresh banana fudge ice cream ?
Of course you can have my guns……. Bullets first.
I didn’t say rounds, shells or magazines……

Sick irony
Menlo Tuesday, February 10th at 5:24PM EST (link)The same people are clamoring to throw as much taxpayer money as the mad scientists ask for experimentation on human embryos in hopes of curing disease. How did that billion-plus dollar project work out for California?
The effects of such a policy were seen last year in Oregon. A woman was suffering from cancer, and the state didn’t find the treatment worth the cost. However, they would have been more than willing to foot the bill for her assisted suicide.
For most liberals and Democrats today, “health care” is best addressed by killing off as many people as possible who may ever need legitimate medical care. It’s the ultimate form of “preventive” care.
To claim it’s about usefulness of treatment is a big bold-faced lie. They are pleased as punch to fund all kinds of research projects and experiments that have far less hope of helping anyone.

Maybe this is another way of healing Gaia--get rid of as many of us as possible
janis Tuesday, February 10th at 5:39PM EST (link)as fast as they can. Abortion on demand world-wide and we pay for it, letting the elderly die rather than pay for their care, and then refuse to treat people such the woman in Oregon.
However, they dismiss one of God’s rules: As ye sow, so shall ye reap. Theirs will be a bitter harvest.
I think this is what Pelosi is trying to do

“Each of us has a natural right, from God, to defend his person, his liberty, and his property.”
Now the Democratic party's support of abortion makes sense
civil_truth Tuesday, February 10th at 5:37PM EST (link)If you’re out to save health care costs, then abortion saves a lifetime of health care cost.
Or perhaps they will set up a benefit/cost panel and abort those whom their models show will cost more than they can pay in taxes (note I didn’t say “earn” I said “pay in taxes”. Hence the preponderance of clinics in minority neighborhoods. /snark

Questions like allergies to medicines etc. Or do we want some minimum wage high school kids entering all of our data into a national database for us?

My husband is diabetic and had his usual 3-month
janis Tuesday, February 10th at 6:27PM EST (link)check-up last week. The doctor had to fill out the questionnaire that the insurance company requires yearly. And every single year they have incorrect information on his form–not minor stuff either, but things as major as saying that he has Type 1 diabetes instead of Type 2, that his family has a history of all kinds of things that they don’t have and never did.
I think we already have the minimum wage high school kid thing covered. This will just make it much, much worse.
So is this Obama's version of a one-child policy
The Political Class Wednesday, February 11th at 10:06AM EST (link)So is this the left’s new version of China’s one-child policy. It’s a one grandparent policy. They don’t want to pay for health care costs of four grandparents - so’ll they let three die off.
