Nexus between Ron Paul and Romney is out in the open!

After weeks of speculation that Ron Paul & Romney Campaigns are working together based on how Ron Paul smeared Newt in FL & now has attack ads against Rick in MI even though he is not campaigning much there.  There are tons of articles that discuss either Ron or more likely, Rand Paul will be the veep nominee for Romney!

I hope Libertarians who thought Paul was a honest broker can go to Libertarian party rather than support this fraud Ron Paul!  Ron Paul turned out to be the “typical Washington insider that wheel & deals to get himself & his family taken care of “.  This guy, just like Obama, fooled all his followers especially the youth!   Also, I feel sorry for the Judge Napolitano, Stossel & few other openly libertarians who thought this guy is for real…shame on you Paul especially aligning yourself with a MA liberal!

Conservatives & Tea Partyers, this is the last chance to prevent two frauds (Romney-Paul) from being nominees of the republican party!  Vote Rick or Newt whoever is leading the poll in a state or running second to Romney in a particular state.  I am reading & hearing that Newt is not doing any campaign in MI so that the conservatives can vote for Rick!   Thank you Newt!  Hope Rick will do the same in the southern states! Also, if Romney gains any momentum & primary voters are still splitting the conservative votes to give Romney victories in some states, maybe it is time for one of you to step aside to be the veep for the republican ticket.  Conservatives are still the majority of the republican party!

First of all, I am not advocating any 3rd party in this post…..in fact, I want the conservatives to take over the Republican party! The young people who voted for Obama, some of those college kids liked Ron Paul’s message & they came to him hoping he would be honest about his positions – when they realize he has a understanding with Romney – they will go back to Libertarian party or possibly back to Obama!

“Politics is about alliances”- how can you call yourself principled when you align yourself with somebody who does not any of your core prinicples! Exactly what happened to GW Bush, McCain, RINOs in House & Senate ….reaching out, forming alliances, compromise etc….it always seems one way – Republians moving to center or left! We wonder what happened to all our conservative agenda…this time excuses have started even before ROmney is our nominee!

I have mentioned elsewhere – Romney is a fraud, I watched him in MA running against Kennedy & followed his career closely! He has no core & does not believe in anything! His only goal is to be the POTUS….the party will go backward with him at the helm!

As you saw yesterday how Rick had to justify his votes for liberal programs from GW Bush….multiply that by 5-10 times! At least now we have 30-40 House Rep& 6-8 Senators who have the guts to stand up to RINO leadership but if Romney gets elected, they will have do the same dance that Rick did yesterday!! 2014 – House goes back to Dems & Senate Dems reach 60!

…then my vote is not just anyone but ROBAMAney, but I’d have to throw Paul in there as well. The last thing we need is more politicians that throw aside all of their values and core beliefs purely for political gain. That very selfish act does nothing to advance the country or the conservative agenda. If only they could remember “the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one.” ( shameless Trekkie :p)

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/right-turn/post/no-conspiracy-ron-paul-just-dislikes-santorum/2012/02/23/gIQAMbLaXR_blog.html

It couldn’t possibly be that Paul just has a deep-seeded dislike of the man? It is, after all, possible to not like Rick Santorum.

    Besides from your post:

“I am reading & hearing that Newt is not doing any campaign in MI so that the conservatives can vote for Rick!”

That seems a bit more like collusion to me. Anyhow, people just need to learn to accept when their guy lays an egg.

    • Agelaius

It could be that Ron Paul does not like Santorum because their views on personal liberty differ. Ron Paul would legalize a number of drugs; Santorum would not. Santorum seeks to restore a sense of Christian community, while Paul is also a Christian, he’s much more an every-man-for-himself kind of guy. Santorum would shift the burden of social services from the government to private charities, while Ron Paul would just as soon be done with any form of charity. Ron Paul would not be keen on going to war to save Israel, and indeed has a spotty record with respect to America’s most important ally. Santorum understands the prophetic role of Israel and is a hardliner on Iran. Paul wants to pretend Iran doesn’t exist. It’s no wonder they hate each other.

For your blind support, hope you guys are getting paid by Romney’s campaign — they got lot of $$$ OR you guys must be lefties ensuring Obama victory by making sure you get the MA liberal to represent the republican party!!

    • Viet71

      Big hot button. Thanks, krish.

  • aesthete

It makes very little sense to think that Ron Paul has been building a network for 4 years, and that he’s separated himself from the Republican party, just so that he can be Romney’s lackey. More likely, he is reacting to someone who has stated himself to be hostile both to any libertarian influence in the party, and to Paul’s campaign specifically (IIRC, he called Paul “disgusting”).

This is the sort of conspiracy theorizing that Ron Paul supporters regularly engage in when it comes to other subjects — “important person was seen with other important person — there’s only one explanation!!”

BTW — as a purely strategic decision — Rick Santorum should have avoided getting into the weeds on this one. This is only reinforcing the popular image that he’s a petty and thin-skinned guy.

Ron Paul isn’t interested in anyone except Ron Paul.

I will bet anyone on this blog $250 (which I don’t have but I will get) that if Romney wins the nomination, Ron Paul will NOT be his VP candidate.

There you go. Open offer: $250 in cold hard cash.

      • kowalski

        And I want $100 if I’m right.

        • kowalski

If I was going to succumb to the lures of the casino, I would bet much more heavily that Christie was going to be the VP nominee. He’s said he didn’t want to be President. He’s said he wasn’t going to run for President because he had too much work to finish in New Jersey. But he could very easily be the VP nominee and credibly serve both of his prior statements.

And he’d be a very strong VP candidate on the ticket with Romney. Just about unbeatable in my mind.

This diary is kind of silly. I’m a Santorum guy, and recognize that politics is about forming alliances and coalitions to advance agendas. If the eventual nominee is Romney/Paul, I’d vote for that ticket in a second over BHO.

  • Viet71

Thrashing him is fine, IMO. But how is he inferior to Obama? And why would he choose a VP he knew could never succeed him as prez?

  • jamesm

Clearly Ron Paul will sell out to the establishment candidate Romney. Such irony!! At least Gingrich and Santorum will tell the truth about their positions. Obama, Romney and Paul are all sneaky.

  • Scope

that the best way to promote conservatism is to support conservatives in the primary and the Republican, no matter how liberal, in the general election.

What they don’t explicitly state, when you click on the “about” button and read the text, is that they expect every commenter here to hold to the same position. That’s exactly what they want and expect but its not explicitly stated.

My own view of the matter, in the past, has been that the best way to promote conservatism is to support conservatives in the primary and the Republican, no matter how liberal, in the general election for every office except for president. Unfortunately, in our system, the president also becomes the head of the party. With that power, the president has influence over who gets what party post and what kind of candidates the party recruits.

In the past, that has resulted in moderates locking out potential conservative candidates in future elections from having access to party funds and support in their runs and has locked conservatives out of leadership spots which are crucial to their development of skills.

Its quite as bad now that organizations like GOPAC has emerged to support conservative candidates when the party has refused to. And there’s non-party organizations like the Heritage Foundation to give potential conservative insiders a place to hone their skills. But it still becomes a problem to some extent every time a moderate/liberal republican becomes president. At the moment we’re still reaping the benefits of party members who matured in Reagan’s presidency and the republican takeover of the House. But string together a couple of decades without a conservative president and it might be another matter.

Redstate would be better off, in my opinion, if they explicitly stated their expectations rather than letting people promote conservatism each in their own way then threaten to ban the people who don’t conform to their unspoken expectation.

But, then, I’m not in charge of anything around here.

  • trickamsterdam

Not that he was one, or was considering a third Party. He thinks they’re messing up the process (and it’s true Paul is messing up the process, starting in Iowa when he joined Romney’s hate-a-thon of Newt).

But you’re right of course, they have every right to be here, and a Libertarian Party (on the Presidential level at least) makes no sense at all.

Actually, a lot of people (not saying Krish) don’t know that the libertarian movement started as a part of the Republican Party, and only got their own Party later. People like the Pauls and G. Johnson achieved high-level office as Rs, and are actually reflective of the original concept.

If either of the Pauls can get the VP spot, it would be an enormous prestige victory for libertarians, and if it’s the son there’s the chance it could actually lead to real power (he’s young enough to actually run for President himself under the flag of the VP’s office).

That being said I don’t ticket that tries to form a coalition of liberal NE Republicans and hard core Tea Partiers is going to be very successful. Now I see why you and others were very luke warm to a brokered convention though!

unless you’re in a State where the GOP candidate results are a foregone conclusion – i.e. where your vote doesn’t count.

As an example, I’m in Illinois, and there’s no way Obama won’t carry it in November, so .. if the GOP nominate Ron Paul, I’m voting Green Party. (not Libertarian – I want to look like the Dems aren’t “green” enough..)

The problem with your logic becomes quite clear in the 1992 race – where Ross Perot was to the right of George H. W. Bush, but had no chance of winning. Plenty of otherwise-solid conservatives voted for Perot .. and gave the White House to Clinton.

The better way to fight this, Archer, is to get involved at the local level, not throwing away votes.

I’m not kidding. They’d struggle to take States like TX and Oklahoma.

Now that’s w/ the father as the Paul du jour. If, on the other hand, Rand is the soup (nut) of the day, they may manage to win five-twenty States, but will still quite obviously be crushed.

The upside of it being the father is is the Paul/Biden debate has the real potential for epic fail.

I’m a history buff and there’s an episode from the Crusades that I’ve always remembered. One of the Christian Lords went to negotiate a private treaty w/ a Muslim Lord over a disputed territory.

This Muslim intends to poison him, but he doesn’t want to do it right off, it’d be to obvious, so they spend the night getting drunk (this Muslim Warlord was from one of those “Golden Horde” type tribes, and culturally they were OK w/ drinking).

Anyway, it’s now time for the poison cup, but everyone’s so drunk, that there’s general confusion and the Muslim ends up w/ the cup he intended for the Christian. Big time own goal, guy.

Paul/Biden is unlikely to be as lethal, but just as likely to be similarly lulzy.

Both Rush Limbauch and Mark Levin have floated a conspiracy theory that Governor Romney and Congressman Paul have formed an alliance against Senator Santorum.

OK, but since then, both Governor Pawlenty, of the Romney campaign, and Doug Wead, of the Paul campaign have denied that there is any truth to this.

These rude, disrespectful, diparaging comments being thrown against Governor Romney and Congressman Paul are wrong. These men are both Republicans, and deserve our respect and civility.

But more than that gentlemen, most of us are Christians here, I am, and I take seriously the words of Jesus Christ that if we call another RACA, or FOOL, we are in danger not only of the counsel, but of hellfire.

We need to pull together to defeat the Democrats in the fall, and stop all of the fighting, evil surmising, and name calling. Having said this, I shudder what will be said about me.

But let’s focus and win the election in the fall!

  • Viet71

    Who comes and sows confusion?

    Who comes brandishing enticements?

Who comes not forthrightly but by cunning deceit?

I’d say a Dem masquerading as a Romney basher on RS.

That’s .. ah, the irony! .. foolish thinking.

Go forth and read what others are saying about the “supposed” alliance…

Ron Paul and Mitt Romney like each other, something I take as a friendly reminder that we don’t have to agree with our friends to remain friends. The wives are chummy as well.

The point, though, comes in the 3rd of Ace’s block quote, second one from the WaPo article – the campaign staff say they’re coordinating. Here, let me blockquote the blockquote for you:

    Romney
