Should we start a RS campaign for Newt to step down & endorse Rick!

Newt did not win any state other than his home state while Rick was able to win TN – far away from PA!  Newt being a southern guy could not win TN or even come in second, which pathetic!  There is no way to spin Newt’s loss to Romney in TN!  It is clear that Newt is not the first choice among the conservative wing of the party.  Newt needs to evaluate his chances & for the good of the conservative movement, he should step down & endorse Rick!  This is the last chance to stop Romney from becoming the Republican nominee.

I am making the plea to Newt, please step down & endorse Rick.  Newt should be picked as the veep & Rick -Newt has the best chance of beating  Obama!

that is why rick is racking up all these primary wins despite not having a lot of money or a big campaign staff.

If not Newt, then Romney. Santorum would be an electoral disaster and would hurt downticket races way more than Romney.

    • cheetah2

Gingrich should make his own decision without pressure. I hated that when Perry was put under pressure to drop out. I too am for Gingrich and if he drops out I am going straight to Romney. Santorum is not presidential material.

      • avagreen

he said he would throw his weight behind.

        What gives? **crazy eyes**

    • Finrod

Considering the nasty reaction they had when Newt called on Santorum to drop out after South Carolina.

    • Common_Cents

Santorum prob wouldn’t get a net benefit from gingrich supporters, however, Gingrich would get a net benefit from Santorum supporters.

Santorum nominee would be disaster. Santorum is nothing but a wet dream excuse for people who have been intimidated by the media “baggage” attacks to nominate someone “clean” that would be wiped out. Supporters would just say, don’t blame me, I voted for a clean guy to lose.

      The “baggage” intimidation worked well.

nest week. Newt clearly put a lot of resources in Georgia hoping to get an outright win with 50% or more of the votes and neglected TN and OK. With Fred’s endorsement, he should have come out stronger in TN.

so I doubt he cares if he is helping Romney. He likely feels entitled to stay in since Santorum did not drop out. Frankly, if Newt doesn’t do the right thing here now, It will have only reinforced exactly what most people already know. He is as power hungry, and feels entitled as much, as Romney ever was.

Newt is a spoilers, and its time for him to go. One man is funding him, and that just makes no since. One man pays for a candidate to only help Romney. Gingrich, its over man, let it go. We don’t want Romney, and he is standing in the way of the only shot we have now.

  • Scope

The only one still supporting Gingrich financially is Sheldon Addelson, the Las Vegas casino mogul. Addelson has already said that he is willing to fund Romney big time, and he has also donated to Democrats. He is keeping Gingrich in only to help Romney. It’s strategic.

The results from last night have Santorum with 3 wins, 4 second place showings, and 2 third place showings. On the other hand, Gingrich has 1 first place, 3 third places wins, and 5 fourth place wins. Paul beat Gingrich in 5 states last night out of 10 contests. Gingrich won 1 state before last night, and Santorum won 4 before last night.

If Gingrich considers country first, over his ego, and admits that he is only helping Romney by staying in the race, he would bow out and let Santorum have a chance over Romney. Of course that is unlikely to happen as it has long been said that Gingrich thinks he is the smartest guy in the room, is power hungry, selfish, and someone from Gingrich’s campaign team said that they are staying in and just waiting for Santorum to stumble and to crash. As though Gingrich hasn’t already accomplished stumbling and crashing.

Romney’s showing last night was not strong at all. In VA, in a two man race with Ron Paul, he only managed a 59% win, with Paul getting 41%. That is weak tea. Romney spent $12 million dollars in Ohio to win by 1% against Santorum, and he accomplished that win by winning in highly populated areas who mostly always vote Democrat in the general. Romney is doing poorly with conservatives, evangelicals and Independents. If you are watching anything other than the Romney channel (Fox), there aren’t many giving Romney high 5′s after last night’s results. How in the heck will Romney beat Obama with moderates/liberals who will likely just stay with the incumbent who they will view as now being the most experienced, and who is far more likable.

I hope and suspect that there will be calls coming from all quarters now for Gingrich to step aside. If Gingrich stays in the race now, after the gains made by the conservative activists after the 2010 elections, I fear that Nov. will look a lot like the VA primary did yesterday.

  • jamesm

Newt is the proverbial Not Romney. He will suspend his campaign after not winning Alabama and Mississippi. I am sure of it. I read some of his campaign comments yesterday. He will support Santorum.

  • steve962

At this point, it seems highly unlikely for anyone but Romney to possibly earn enough delegates before the convention to wrap things up – and even that’s not guaranteed unless both Gingrich *and* Santorum drop out. I doubt either will drop out at this point until (and if) Romney wraps it up.

IMHO, therefore, like Ron Paul, Gingrich and Santorum only really have a chance of winning the nomination if it comes down to the convention. Gingrich has a decent chance there – he’s seen as more conservative than Romney, isn’t quite as off the wall as Ron Paul, and lacks the “Holier than thou” attitude that Santorum constantly demonstrates, which annoys all the non-evangelicals in the party. If he makes a decent showing in states other than Georgia, even if he doesn’t win, he’ll demonstrate he can earn votes.

So if Gingrich can hold on until the convention and Romney hasn’t wrapped up the nomination by then, he can present himself as the perfect compromise – not the best choice for most, but acceptable to the larger majority of the party. Which might or might not work. It’s hard to say what will happen in that case.

Is that the best thing for the party? No idea. But it’s how I see things playing out.

  • Common_Cents

Santorum as nominee will do one thing. Make some conservatives feel good that they selected a good clean guy in a wipeout. Yep, we are falling for the media trap. Santorum will be wiped out in the general.

If Gingrich gets out, I’ll be forced to support Romney. I doubt I’m alone. Pass the tequila!

  • http://www.timothy-bladel.com/ center77

if it comes down to the power players, they will go with Romney, unless someone else agrees to get in the race, which at that point would not happen.

  • http://www.timothy-bladel.com/ center77

Newt should be humble like Perry dif, and give Santorum his shot.

  • Common_Cents

Gingrich’s solutions have a shot at a much wider audience.

Santorum’s evangelical appeal will go nowhere.

  • quill67

All Santorum has to do is beat Gingrich in Alabama and Mississippi. If he does, Newt will drop out on his own.

If Santorum can’t beat Gingrich in AL and MS, then both might as well stay in, collect their delegates and hope Romney does not get a majority.

  • Xasteius

There are a lot of Newt Redstaters (myself included) that will go to Romney before they even touch Santorum.

  • WillWong

where Newt concentrates on the South and Santorum on the Mid West/Rust Belt and then split out the rest of the States to take on Romney one-on-one, that may stop Romney in his track. I do see that most of Santorum’s supporters would go to Newt but cannot say the same about Newt’s supporters and the reason is simple….Santorum’s supporters are by and large So-Cons and it is hard to imagine any so-cons going to Romney. OTH, many of Newt’s supporters are fis-cons and it is conceivable that some may be drawn to Romney rather than Santorum.

  • demsaresatanic

conservative and Romney’s record stinks on both, I don’t see many Newt supporters going to Romney, certainly I would prefer Santorum if it comes down to it. As for the pact you mention, I also am hoping for Newt and Rick to split up the states and knock Romney out, Newt has been doing that to some extent by concentrating in the more conservative states but Rick has not reciprocated so far as I can see. Newt is not responsible for splitting the conservative vote so long as Rick won’t play ball.

  • demsaresatanic

    and pure speculation.

  • Ann2012

Demsaresatanic I wish you were right, but I

  • demsaresatanic

    equal true.

  • celador2

RS should not urge Newt to exit now imo. Newt may have a product voters prefer down the road. Big states conservatives may win are CA, says Rove as that party is more conservative than Romney. NJ and NY may belong to Romney but PA is up for grabs. Romney will not win Texas in May. He barely won Ohio.

If Newt holds the line in Alabama, Kansas and Mississippi he stands a chance to move in the big states.

But he or Santorum will know within a month or two who is the weaker and stronger and then decide based on voters and delegates.

All must be driven by voter interest not funders’ interests.

  • Ann2012

    so we don

  • Xasteius

and take your pick on the Bush.

  • laodalisque

you should be ashamed of what you’re calling for. Santorum simply doesn’t have the heavyduty gravitas to take the battle to Obummer in the general, let alone to herd, afterwards, all the Congressional strutters, preeners and comromise monkeys together to make them work as the ox team that they deservedly resemble (big, stupid, and way too powerful).

The man has no skills that he’s ever displayed; he’s a toothy, big government hack; and, he’s a self-professed “team player,” which is code for ‘he’ll go along to get along with the GOP-Establishment.’ And the GOP itself, Democrud bootlicks that they are, will ABSOLUTELY NEVER do anything that’ll get themselves criticized by the left.

I need only to point at the recent humiliation of Rush Limbaugh. Never mind that he’s absolutely right for calling the woman exactly what she objectively is–a slut. And, she’s a shameless parasite, too. But, all the lamestream had to do was pull their hair and rend their garments and he caved. RUSH CAVED. That’s Rush “Never Apologize” Limbaugh, caving. Just like you all are caving now.

Those of you who’re baying for Newt to exit are NOT demonstrating the strength of your rock-solid conservative street cred, you realize this, don’t you?? You’re going at this election with the same cringing accommodationism that’s made the GOP a loser-stravaganza party over and over again. The left NEVER plays to the clueless center. They have a monomaniacal tunnelvision of their collectivist agenda and it’s their projection of almost messianic conviction of the inevitability of it that draws the feeblewilled centrists to them. The weak always gravitate to power. Always. That’s why the GOP Establishment keeps having to chase these people all over the map–the more the GOP panders to the center, the more it keeps drifting leftward. Y’all keep this strategy up, of jettisoning your core values that Newt articulates better than any of the three stooges do while they’re on stage, and you’re gonna get what you deserve: FOUR MORE YEARS.

And, as you all appear to be working yourselves up to enthuse on the ridiculous Mr SweaterVest, please remember somewhere in your feverish recesses, that Santorum supported that vile little toad, Arlen Specter. He should NEVER be forgiven for that total breach of judgement. And it’s not like no one saw that one coming. Specter spent years as the quintessential GOP invertebrate before he defected once and for all–remember what I said about the weak. Therefore, Stand tall! Be proud! Support the guy who tells it like it is: Newt.

  • demsaresatanic

I hope to see more in the future.

  • Finrod

Santorum is snake oil, period. The only reason he’s doing as well as he is is because Romney is still targeting Newt more.

  • Finrod

At first I was thinking I just wouldn’t vote if I had to choose between Romney and Santorum, but the more I think about it, I really think I’d choose Romney over Santorum. It’s like the difference between a boot to the head and a root canal without anesthesia, though.
