MEMBER DIARY

RS posters already making excuses for “Etch a Sketch” nominee

Is “Etch a Sketch”  a euphemism for “flip flopper”.   The arrogance of Romney campaign is plain to see - ”where will the hicks & bible thumpers go in the general elections”? They are not even waiting for the primaries to end before moving from the center to left of center! Unfortunately, EE & other posters have already started lining behind Mittens – “we have no other path but support Romney “.  No wonder, Romney gang is getting bolder & already saying what they will do in the general!

Question to other Etch a Sketch Nominee supporters – In general, he will move left enough – just not to make the base NOT  too angry!  They will play both sides - his mouth pieces will say one thing & he will come out say the opposite (just like what we witnessed)!   That way when Mittens pivots left, he can say their camp did say that!  If he is elected POTUS, he will be a full fledged MA liberal in action!! Revised Obamacare, Cap & Trade, same policies on social issues (Cathlolics need to wake up!) etc… 2014 will be a disaster – Pelosi back as the speaker!   We will again have liberals in charge of all three corridors of power!

Do we want Obama as the POTUS with Senate & House Republican majority or Obama Lite as POTUS with Reid & Pelosi?

This is garbage. No self respecting Romney supporter will discuss anything with you and your incendiary “diary”.

    • natek58

Now that’s a contradiction in terms. How can anyone even look at themself in the mirror and vote for him?

      Please explain.

      • gekster

        Conservative in the primary,
        Republican in the general.

I don’t see where RS has strayed from that stance.

        • garfieldjl

Someone whom is to the left of Ted Kennedy is not a Conservative, so you’re pushing for the most left-wing choice possible.

Second, the analogy focuses around the idea of a Republican nominee being more conservative than the Democrat. Well in Romney’s case, he’s about as liberal as Obama.

So are you suggesting we should mindlessly vote for Obama if he had an R by his name instead of a D?

          • gekster

You got a reading comprehension problem or what.

If Romney (not my first choice) makes it to the nomination,
you gonna sit home or vote for Obama.
            Either way, Obama wins.
            Seams that’s what you want.

      • Ender

than voting for that clown Santorum.

    • Stricia

217 word tantrum to me. Do you ever wonder if Krish and other Romney Haters will be like this – kicking and screaming – all the way to the voting booth in November?

      • texastaxpayer

you and ender high five each other alone at the voting booth.

      • Ender

The few extreme ones like this one that is. To be honest I don’t care about persuading them (again the extreme fools who claim there is no difference between Romney and Obama) or wanting them to vote for Romney. There are fools everywhere and they are not worth the time to argue with.

I mainly see the same 3 names here throwing the “tantrums”. Vast majority of other Romney opponents are not “haters” but are reasonable conservatives. This guy here is a joke.

        • texastaxpayer

Since your the butt of most my jokes I will again give you an opportunity to demonstrate your more than a mindless drone.

Provide specific details from Romney’s record that demonstrates he is a conservative. As always provide links to credible sources to validate any claims.

Since we have been through this before I don’t actually expect anything from you. Let’s face it there is nothing you could provide. As you said yourself “Conservatives can’t get elected in Massachusetts”.

Sadly you don’t even realise your the joke my friend, just not a very funny one.

          • Ender

there is nothing for me to say to you.

          • texastaxpayer

Nothing you “can” say is closer to the mark….

  • Viet71

Our friend krish is a Lefty infiltrator who wants Romney to lose so Obama can win. That’s because Leftys know Romney is the worst Obama opponent.

    Wake up conservatives.

    • garfieldjl

You would know based on the Candidates baggage compared to Obama’s baggage, their stances, their ability to connect with people, etc. Romney is the absolute worst choice for nominee.

If Obama thinks Romney is his toughest opponent, fine with me. If Obama’s entire campaign strategy centers around going after Romney’s baggage, it will be totally turned upside when we choose someone else to be the nominee.

In reality, I think Obama doesn’t consider Romney a threat, he just wants people to jump on the Romney bandwagon then totally destroy Romney once there is no longer a chance for the GOP to choose a different candidate.

    • demsaresatanic

“Leftys know Romney is the worst Obama opponent.” That is why the AHCH leftist media goes after Newt and Rick with flamethrowers and goes after Oromney with snowballs, Oromney is the one they know Obama can beat.

    • krish

If I wanted Obama to win, I would definitely support Romney! But I am consistently against Romney …..take Newt (slightly favor him) over Rick…but either one is fine with me!

I am looking at a scenario IF (it is a Big if) Romney wins it will be worse for Republican party down the road….even if Mittens wins, Republicans lose!

I wish you would show this passion against Rombots & call them for what they are!

Than run a sleezy rino and jeopardize all three. With a strong house and senate we can survive Obama.

  • civil truth

Will Romney or Santorum be more helpful to our Congressional races. Each side argues the other will be a disaster.

What’s clear is that they won’t have the same impact. Here’s my take.

Romney will dampen Republican voters whereas Santorum will increase Republican turnout. However, Santorum will also stimulate more Democrats to come to the polls to vote against than Romney. How the two balance out would determine the answer.

My conclusion – all other matters being equal – is that you choose the candidate who will stimulate the turn out on your side, because you have no control on how well the opposition will be able to stir up their folks. You have to play the cards you hold, not rely on your opponent to misplay.

  • garfieldjl

I’m just amazed people took over 4 years to figure out what I knew about Romney all the way back in 2007,

  • Viet71

    no text

  • rednation

Many conservatives will stay home on the “practical” moderate choice, Romney, like they did in 2008 with John McCain.

Santorum fires up the base to a degree, nonwithstanding some here at redstate who scoff at his votes on spending.

Social cons are more likely to walk on glass and help GOTV with Santorum, Romney is useless.

It would fire up Dems more if facing Santorum, so there is an offset, but I think the net effect is a bit better on downticket races if somebody one can be at least somewhat enthused about is the nominee as opposed to one like Romney who is totally depressing…

  • garfieldjl

Gingrich is still in this, he didn’t suspend his campaign. If people can’t stomach Santorum vote Gingrich instead of voting for the “etch-a-sketch.”

Santorum supporters, I know that you would like Santorum to be the nominee, but if you’re in Louisanna, you need to vote for Gingrich, he’s harder for Obama to take pot shots at than Santorum.

While everyone is yapping about Gingrich’s baggage, people forget that Obama has baggage too and Obama doesn’t want to call attention to his own baggage.

The baggage people think is a liability for Gingrich can actually call attention to Obama’s baggage which is more prone to hurting Obama than hurting Gingrich.

Polls say that Gingrich can’t beat Obama, well polls said that Carter would beat Reagan. Last I checked Carter got clobbered by Reagan.

Gingrich has forced the media and Obama to talk about Gasoline Prices, which is putting Obama on the defensive. We can’t win with Santorum just defending himself on Social Issues. While social issues are important, Santorum plays right into the media’s hands on it.

I would be okay with Santorum being the nominee if that’s the outcome of a brokered convention. I will not be okay with an “etch-a-sketch” being the nominee.

If we look at the tactical situation in november:

    1. Fox News will not support Obama like they are currently shilling for Romney. That means this factor changes in a positive manner if Gingrich or Santorum is the nominee.
    2. Obama will have the money advantage — this is seriously bad for Romney whom has to outspend people 7 to 1 in order to beat them.
    3. Social Conservative base can unite behind Santorum or Gingrich but they would be hard pressed to unite behind Romney. We need the social conservatives to win, and it’s doubtful that they will unite behind Romney once Obama points out the obvious that there is really no difference between himself and Romney.
    4. Fiscal Conservatives can unite behind Romney or Gingrich but not Santorum, we need fiscal conservatives to win.
    5. Independents could go for whomever it’s too early to make a realistic prediction.
    6. Liberals are likely to vote Obama (outside chance they would vote for Romney whom is also a liberal but rather unlikely).

We have to pick a candidate that garners support from both Social and fiscal conservatives.
    Social Conservatives can’t stand Romney.
    Fiscal Conservatives can’t stand Santorum.

Gingrich draws support from both, and while he’s being outspent currently, fact remains he’d be better at uniting the base than either Romney or Santorum. Not to mention, he’s the only one that has been able to put Obama on the defensive thus far.

All these “hints” that Obama is worried about Romney is a ruse, Romney is the one Obama wants to face, and it is easy to see the reasons are Bain Capital and Romneycare.

    http://spectator.org/blog/2012/02/14/santorum-social-conservatives

One kind is economically conservative, socially liberal swing voters. This is the kind of voter you usually read about, because it’s the kind most familiar to political reporters – affluent and college educated.

But there’s a second kind of voter at least as numerous – economically populist and socially conservative. Think of disaffected blue-collar workers, downscale white men who love guns, hate welfare, oppose free trade, and want higher taxes on the rich and corporations. Romney appeals to the former, but Santorum more to the latter.

  • b33rfairy

Do we not want someone in the White House who is not a democrat or Obama? Anyone who gets in there will be sleezy (its all relative anyway), they’re politicians for hell’s sakes – Etch a Sketch indeed. If it’s Romney so be it, he ain’t Obama. And why can’t we get the Senate and House to boot?

  • civil truth

I don’t know what the relative proportions of these two groups are. And are there a fair number of women in the second group or is it predominantly males? The media elites despise the second group and tend to lump them as angry men. If they’re wrong, then they may be underestimating the appeal of someone like Santorum,

But I suspect the Republican leadership “play it safe” mentality will prevail in the primary – and then they will discover that it doesn’t work in the general against the totalitarians of the left running the Obama campaign.

  • acat

Romney dominated in the parts of Illinois that would normally be your
‘disaffected blue-collar workers’ .. Santorum won farm country.

I am under the impression that the same thing happened in Michigan and Ohio ..

You may go on arguing that these voters would prefer Santorum but they seem to disagree with you.

    Mew

  • garfieldjl

I’m not mindlessly voting for someone simply cause they have an R by their name.

That would be like saying if Obama had an R by his name, we should vote for him…

  • civil truth

Just back off a bit. This statement just isn’t correct. The criticism of Romney (with which I agree) is that he lacks convictions and is a flip-flopper. Obama on the other hand is a committed anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist who grew up and has traveled in radical left circles since birth. Please at least base your decision on facts rather than facile “a plague on everyone”.

  • b33rfairy

I would prefer someone who has hard-core capitalism/government leadership experience albeit with mild centrist tendencies vs. a hard-left dictatorial socialist. There are some stark differences that set them apart, way apart.

  • Ann2012

…put quotes around what I posted so people can tell that it was a section of the article that I posted and not my writing.

Anyways, to get to your point, in addition to disaffected blue-collar workers who you say Santorum didn
