This. Is. Hilarious.

Saul Alinksy. They are his disciples. They’ve studied him and worshiped at his feet. They’ve used his black arts tactics on the American public in every way imaginable (and unimaginable) to elevate themselves to the highest offices in the land—nay, the world. Yet, when an upstart internet entrepreneur went fishing for a minnow, not only did the minnow take the bait, but so did the Alinskyite-in-Chief.

If you haven’t been following this story, here’s the bullet point summary:
- Alinskyites in DC, threatened by Tea Parties, using age-old propaganda techniques accuse said Tea Parties of racism in an attempt to ”pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it” [see Alinsky Power Tactic #13]
- The racism meme (aka The Big Lie) is used repeatedly by union bosses, Congresspeople and the NAACP
- Tea Parties say “no way, man!” and spend considerable amount of time trying to defend a politically-motivated, yet baseless, accusation
- NAACP, escalating the the attacks on Tea Parties condemns racism in the Tea Parties, even going so far as comparing it to a white supremacist group (pick the target, personalize it, polarize it)
- Enter Andrew Breitbart, a non-Harvard educated, non-Yale educated, non-lawyer and (most importantly) non-ACORN-trained internet entrepreneur:
- Following the NAACP’s trumped Tea Party condemnation, Breitbart launches counter offensive on Big Government against the NAACP’s racist accusations written by a racially-diverse group of writers
- The coup de grace: On Monday, Breitbart ‘proves’ NAACP’s racism by posting two videos of Shirley Sherrod, USDA Georgia Director of Rural Development, speaking at the NAACP Freedom Fund dinner in Georgia, wherein Ms. Sherrod admits to treating a white farmer differently because of his race (with approval from the audience).
- Within hours, Breitbart’s post goes viral, earning a condemnation from the NAACP.
Racism is about the abuse of power. Sherrod had it in her position at USDA. According to her remarks, she mistreated a white farmer in need of assistance because of his race.
We are appalled by her actions, just as we are with abuses of power against farmers of color and female farmers.
Her actions were shameful. While she went on to explain in the story that she ultimately realized her mistake, as well as the common predicament of working people of all races, she gave no indication she had attempted to right the wrong she had done to this man.
The reaction from many in the audience is disturbing. We will be looking into the behavior of NAACP representatives at this local event and take any appropriate action.
Alinsky Power Tactic # 4: “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.”
Vindication. The public reaction as well as the NAACP condemnation of Ms. Sherrod’s seemingly racist remarks were likely to have been a simple enough vindication for Breitbart and the Tea Parties. After all, Breitbart had done exactly what the Alinksyites have done for years—made “the enemy live up to its own book of rules,” regardless of the charge’s authentication.
The funny thing is, while Breitbart only threw the bait out to the NAACP (which they took), what was probably unintended was the hooking of the big Alinsky whales at the White House.
Even prior to the NAACP’s condemnation of Sherrod’s remarks, the Obama administration had gotten baited too by ordering Ms. Sherrod’s resignation…without an investigation and without hearing her side of the story.
Had the White House checked the facts, and not have immediately fired Sherrod, they might not entered the fray between Breibart and the NAACP. You see, Breitbart’s video had done the job of throwing the ‘rascist’ bomb out to the NAACP, even though Sherrod’s remarks were somewhat out of context
Note: The NAACP now claims it was “snookered” by Breitbart and Fox News, even though they knew of the context of Sherrod’s remarks when she was fired, as they acknowledged in their condemnation (in bold above).
Instead of giving Breitbart a moderate victory over the NAACP by saying “See? That’s what we’re talking about!” the White House’s overreaction turned what would have been talk-show fodder into a major administration SNAFU story.

While there may be a hidden agenda to the administration’s firing of Sherrod, the bigger story now is how, by using the very Alinsky tactics used by those on the Left and in power, a guy who went fishing for a minnow wound up with the catch of the day. The Alinksy-in-Chief took bait intended for the minnow and swallowed it, hook, line and sinker.
Nevertheless, the Left’s Alinsky accusations of racism will likely continue as it appears to be the Democrats’ strategy going into the fall. As Mary Frances Berry noted on Politico’s Arena:
Tainting the tea party movement with the charge of racism is proving to be an effective strategy for Democrats. There is no evidence that tea party adherents are any more racist than other Republicans, and indeed many other Americans. But getting them to spend their time purging their ranks and having candidates distance themselves should help Democrats win in November. Having one’s opponent rebut charges of racism is far better than discussing joblessness.
With nothing left to defend their abject failures on the economy, the oil spill, and a whole lot more, they have nothing left to rely on but their reliance on Alinsky. Their problem is, as they’re beginning to realize: Two can play that game.
Time to go fishing.

The elemental lesson is that the left hates you just as much and for the same reasons that the jihadis hate you. very funny, Achance.
along this line to both of you, there are two additional books — Rhetoric for Radicals by Del Gandio and Don’t Think Like an Elephant by Lakoff you can add to that list.
The first is a hidden gem — I dare say purposefully misclassified on Amazon to keep it under radar and is probably spread around by word of mouth on the radical activist circuit. It’s a modernized Alinsky, but not quite. Makes radicalism accessible to everyone .. on the left, I mean.
The second is Lakoff’s effort to teach the left to hijack our language and “values” verbiage. When and if you read it, you’ll get sick. It’s that repulsive. Senators had him limo’d to the Hill for pointers. Lakoff’s a linguist, you see..
…all about the liar’s tongue.
Bad, bad books. Roadmaps to the left.
We should be reading their playbooks like thieving, crazed coaches on the eve of a state championship, imho.

There's nothing wrong with Alinsky, either,
Flagstaff (Diary) Thursday, July 22nd at 11:58PM EDT (link)except his motives and self-empowering delusions. Alinsky is first, foremost, and forever about POWER, and it would behoove us to understand that. (There are good reasons why we as conservatives can’t adopt all of his tactics ourselves.)
Some examples:
“You want to organize for POWER!” Without power, you can’t do anything.
“‘The Prince’ was written by Machiavelli for the Haves on how to hold power. ‘Rules for Radicals’ is written for the Have-Nots on how to take it away.”
“Communism itself is irrelevant. The issue is whether they are on our side….” Form any alliance that will give you more POWER.
About Alinsky, a nameless SDS radical wrote, “The issue is never the issue. The issue is always the revolution.” That is, any and all problematic issues are simply opportunities to accumulate more POWER.
“As an organizer I start from the world as it is, AS IT IS, not as I would like it to be…. That means working in the system.”
“[Alinsky:] ‘Any revolutionary change must be preceded by a passive, affirmative, non-challenging attitude toward change among the mass of our people.’ In other words, it is first necessary to sell the people on change itself, the ‘audacity of hope,’ and ‘yes we can.’ You do this by proposing moderate changes which open the door to your radical agendas.”–David Horowitz
All the quotes above come from David Horowitz’s booklet, “Barack Obama’s Rules for Revolution The Alinsky Model” (available cheap from frontpagemag.com), as does the following:
“In my experience conservatives are generally too decent and too civilized to match up adequately with their radical adversaries, at least in the initial stages of the battle. They are too prone to give them the benefit of the doubt, to believe there is goodness and good sense in them which will outweigh their determination to change the world. … They can’t really want to destroy a society that is democratic and liberal, and more equal than others, and that has brought wealth and prosperity to so many people. Oh yes they can. There is no goodness that trumps the dream of a heaven on earth. And because America is a real world society… it will never be equal, or liberal, or democratic ENOUGH to satisfy radical fantasies – to compensate them for their longing for a perfect world, and for their unhappiness in this one.
…
There is no real parallelism in the war which radicals have declared. One side is fighting with a no-holds-barred, take-no-prisoners battle plan against the system, while the other is trying to enforce its rules of fairness and pluralism This is the Achilles’ heel of democracies and all radical spears are aimed in its direction.”
If you think just a bit, you can come up with many examples of problems in today’s world where these observations explain their intractability. Throw in the fact that radicals want to “Just win, Baby,” and REPLACE the system with totalitarian control while the rest of us don’t even understand that and want to “make something about the system better,” and it’s pretty easy to see why we get beat up on the media front all the time. We aren’t even in their game, and they don’t care about ours.
Accept the Horowitz thesis (and he does speak from experience) and Obama’s otherwise inexplicable behavior since becoming President makes sense.

What is wrong with Alinski is legion from what he wants to do with power to
Mike gamecock DeVine (Diary) Friday, July 23rd at 2:11PM EDT (link)the ends justifies the means tactics he is willing to employ, which essentially is the tactic of Lenin that Reagan always condemned and that is that they reserve to themselves the right to lie and cheat.
We can win with TRUTH as the substance and Liberty as the goal, while eschewing most of his rotten tactics.
Yes, we should be aggressive in pointing out our opposition’s flaws and lies and tout our superiority, but we must all times be truthful and not misleading.
Ends do not justify many of Alinsky’s means.
In this case, Breitbart escapes liability easily for many reasons, not the least of which is that a lib admits past racism, and even though she goes on to relate that she got over it, it was an admission. Plus, once she got out in public to defend herself, she shows that she is just another lib apparatchik (sp?) looking to get something for nothing and attack the hearts of conservatives.

They are very susceptible to a sort of intellectual judo in which you use their strengths against them. Given the opportunity, a lefty will overplay his hand, and you want to give him that opportunity.
Our problem is mostly that our leadership cadre simply refuses to see what their eyes are telling them, as Horowitz speaks about in the post above. Yes, Virginia, there really are evil people out there who think that the revolution is its own morality and, like the jihadis, think that lying to unbelievers is not only the right thing but a duty.

Art and Mike are both right.
Flagstaff (Diary) Friday, July 23rd at 6:15PM EDT (link)To take it a bit farther, we can’t use many of Alinsky’s tactics because one major difference between them and us is that we have scruples and they don’t. We also have an overseer (the Dem Spin Machine) ever vigilant to blow the whistle on us, while it misses all the infractions by the bad guys like a WWF referee.
That all means we can’t lie, cheat, or steal even if we want to, while the Progressives can do as they please–they make no promise to be honest or forthright, and when they aren’t and somebody calls them on it, they always have an excuse. We don’t have an excuse, because we have principles that force us to admit our errors, so it doesn’t make sense for us to intentionally lie, cheat and steal.
What we CAN do, however, is use the tactics that split the enemy, debilitate the enemy, ridicule the enemy, turn his words against him, and so on. That isn’t dishonest, it’s just politics.
Regarding the “ends justifies the means” dilemma, EVERY act asks that question. Most times, there is no ethical component to it. Do we want a new car? Can we pay for it? Is it worth what it costs? Does the end (THAT new car) justify the means (forking over THAT much money)?
For progressives radicals, the end ALWAYS justifies the means because the end is HEAVEN ON EARTH. When you consider that we are willing to sacrifice a lot for much less than that, you can see why a true believer is willing to lie, cheat, steal, and even kill to promote the cause of HOE.
We, of course, know there is no such thing as HOE or its companion, the perfectibility of man. We are merely trying to make things better for humans while they wait for Heaven in Heaven, by protecting them from the government and letting them keep what they’ve earned and being truthful with them.
Notice anything? Radical Progressivism is a lot like radical Islam. It’s a ruthless religion. If you aren’t one of us, you are expendable.
Here is an extreme example of something WE WON’T do, but a radical could, ONCE IN FULL POWER. Want to stop illegal immigration? Give the Border Patrol shoot-to-kill orders, and set up watch towers every few thousand yards. After the first week, both the illegal immigration AND the illegal drug traffic across the land border would be a thing of the past. (Of course, it’s just an example. Progressives would be more likely to open the border than to close it, because it would suit their purposes to do so.)
Finally, it’s hard to tell a true believer from a power-hungry opportunist, but where they are in the hierarchy of power might be a clue. Hugo Chavez (and you name the rest) could probably care less about bringing about HOE for his people. Maybe some of his disillusioned supporters did care. Should we say the same about The Boy President? After all, absolute power corrupts absolutely, and Presidential power is growing more every day.

Racism is not about power
liberalsrising (Diary) Friday, July 23rd at 7:34PM EDT (link)Racism is about being or feeling superior, thinking of someone as subhuman or a third class citizen. It was white’s who murdered blacks with little impunity for a couple hundred years because they were supposedly inferior. When blacks remember, when this history resonates into the present day this is not racism. Beinbart got this wrong, that it was about the NCAAP. Also, Saletan reviewed the whole tape and didn’t find the applause that Bartbein said is there.
Racism is totally about power
Leopard1996 (Diary) Friday, July 23rd at 8:27PM EDT (link)Prejudice is thinking of someone as subhuman or a third class citizen, Racism is using that thought to exert any power that you may have on that person. Therefore racism can easily work both ways depending on the situation. If a white kid is in an inner city school and getting his ass kicked everyday by blacks just because he is white, and the school doesn’t do anything, that is racism just as the cops during the civil rights era was turning hoses on black folks in the south for their civil rights protests.
We all know if whites were holding the cards of liberal guilt and used every chance they could to gain advantage because of that, it would be racism, just as race baiters like Sharpton, Jackson, etc, use white liberal guilt to get the gains in their agenda.

In the full video she was describing the point in her life where she faced and rejected her own racism. I suggest people watch the whole story, because when the white lawyer let this farmer down, Mrs. Sherrod stepped up.
This is an embarassment for the administration, which did not take a few minutes to vet the information or listen to Mrs. Sherrod. It’s also an embarsssing lesson for conservatives, that there is nothing to be gained by using the tactics of Michael Moore.

Breitbart lobbed the bait and they took it. It is exactly what the Left has been doing to conservatives (and, more recently, the Tea Parties) for years.
The embarrassment should come from the White House, the NAACP and those on the Right who are too naive to understand the motive behind the approach…which was to use their tactics against them..
If you want to know why the GOP is the minority party right now, it is because “conservatives” have not recognized and countered the Left’s tactics.
This has become an ideological war on the U.S.A. and the other side does not play patty-cakes. For people like you, Don, you can try to extend your hand to the Left in peace, but they will only cut it off and p*ss on your wound.
There is nothing to apologize for from the conservatives on SherrodGate.
The Left created the tactics, they created the ‘racist’ meme, and now it’s biting them in the a**.

I think there's confusion here
Joe Cor (Diary) Thursday, July 22nd at 11:32PM EDT (link)over who took the bait. It seems to me Breitbart took the bait by airing a video he had not thoroughly checked out before doing so. An honest mistake, but a costly one for the good guys. Obama and the MSM were handed an opportunity to portray the right as the ones who are the race-baiters. Unfair, outrageous as that is, that’s harly a coup for the good guys. Obama hasn’t played into Breitbart’s hands, quite the reverse seems to have happened.
And this incident should make all of us wary of the wisdom of fighting fire with fire. A leftist can level racist charges with impunity; a conservative will be carefully fact-checked and excoriated no end if he/she is found to be in error. That’s why two can’t play this game.
I think the reason why so many wish we could play this game is because there is a false choice set before us. Many think it’s a choice of either assuming the Bush “kick me I’m a conservative” fetal position or getting “down and dirty” with the left. But there is a third option, the honorable option (not to be mistaken with the McCain version of “honor” which is actually just a variation on the Bush “kick me” option). The honorable option is to challenge every false statement, assumption, accusation and libel by the left, every time it is made, in any venue in which it is made. This is the technique perfected by members of the Cheney family. Don’t yield an inch to the left. State the facts, over and over and over again, until the truth wins out. State it forthrightly, confidently, passionately, and don’t back down. Never stop telling the truth. Never surrender a point to the left when they are wrong. That is the only way we will ever win.
