Dismantling the Union Monopoly: Wis. teachers union to lay off 40% of staff

By: LaborUnionReport (Diary)  |  August 15th at 05:30 PM  |

For years, the Wisconsin Education Association Council maintained a virtual monopoly on Wisconsin’s education system, raking in $25 million in union dues from teachers in 2009. Moreover, it also controls an insurance trust called the WEA Trust, which gave the union the ability to “sell” (though negotiations) school districts health insurance for teachers–often at a premium price. Of course, most Americans never heard about this | Read More »

Can You Smell Them Now? Striking Union Agrees Not To Drop, Spread Or Throw Feces…

By: LaborUnionReport (Diary)  |  August 15th at 08:00 AM  |

….Well, actually, it’s feces and other objects like “nails, glass, cinder block, spikes, feces, clubs, rocks, screws, or puncture devices of any kind, or other object or debris…” On Friday, a judge in New Jersey granted Verizon some relief from its striking unions by granting an injunction against International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 827–one of the two unions that has pulled 45,000 union | Read More »

By: LaborUnionReport (Diary)  |  August 14th at 12:00 AM  |

On Friday evening, up to 3,000 protesters from the CWA, IBEW, and other union supporters conducted a candlelight vigil and mock funeral outside of Verizon Chairman Ivan Seidenberg’s home in West Nyack, New York. According to Patch.com, the “vigil” lasted about two hours and began with an SUV carrying a coffin as protesters (including children) walked behind the make-shift funeral procession carrying candles.

Building Trades Unions to Boycott 2012 DNC Convention

By: LaborUnionReport (Diary)  |  August 12th at 09:00 PM  |

When the Democratic National Committee chose Charlotte, North Carolina as the site for its 2012 DNC Convention, some union bosses’ eyebrows were raised (as well were those on the extreme Left) with the DNC’s decision to go union-free.  While the underlying issue of the Charlotte choice may be a union rift playing out between AFL-CIO unions and the C2W union because Charlotte is becoming a big | Read More »

Striking Union Extremists Imprison Verizon Replacement Workers In Pennsylvania

By: LaborUnionReport (Diary)  |  August 11th at 10:30 AM  |

In their increasingly militant strike against their employer, Verizon, union strikers have quickly bridged the gap between exercising their rights to criminal activity. While wide-spread incidents of line-cutting and other forms of sabotage may be defined as ‘property damage,’ possible child endangerment and unlawful restraint or false imprisonment. Yesterday, in another example of union extremism, union militants in Pennsylvania used locks and chains to trap | Read More »

Verizon Strikers Using Children, Harassing & Menacing Replacement Workers [Updated]

By: LaborUnionReport (Diary)  |  August 9th at 11:00 PM  |

It’s only been a few days since 45,000 CWA and IBEW members walked off their jobs at Verizon, however, incidents of harassment, sabotage, and illegal picketing have already begun to pile up. On Tuesday, Verizon obtained an injunction in Pennsylvania and filed for one in Delaware “to prevent ‘illegal’ and ‘reprehensible’ strike activities such as keeping managers out of buildings.” In one deplorable incident, a | Read More »

It’s been less than 24 hours since the Communications Workers of America (CWA) and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) called 45,000 of their respective members out on strike against Verizon and, already, there are reports of sabotage of Verizon equipment, as well as illegal picketing. On Sunday, 45,000 union workers represented by the Communications Workers of America (CWA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) went out on strike against the giant telecom. Uh Oh! The Progressives Have Figured Out How The Tea Parties Took Over the GOP…

By: LaborUnionReport (Diary)  |  August 4th at 11:00 PM  |

Wow! It’s really flattering that radio talk-show host Thom Hartmann is attributing the Concord Project with the Tea Party taking over the GOP. The fact is, though, the GOP is still filled with those who would compromise the Constitution and bankrupt our country. Taking over the GOP has barely begun and, more importantly, the Tea Party (and other conservative activists) taking over the GOP involves | Read More »

By: LaborUnionReport (Diary)  |  August 3rd at 04:00 PM  |

A day after President Obama held an “urgent” meeting with AFL-CIO bosses in the White House, the Democrat National Committee is hosting a huge birthday bash for Obama’s 50th birthday tonight in Chicago.
