OFA apparently responsible for Scott Brown cloture vote

Back in February Anita Moncrief and I tried to warn conservatives, the GOP et al about the inherent and obvious dangers of the OFA and their dominant force under the auspices of Obama and the DNC. Yes, we got the word out a bit. But not enough for any one entity to counteract this group.

So today I find out apparently OFA was responsible for the cave-in of Scott Brown on the cloture vote in the Senate on Wall Street Deform.

Brown apparently received some pressure from Organizing for America activists leading up to this vote. According to an OFA official, members placed 922 calls to Brown’s office in the two hours before the Senate voted this afternoon.

Ya know, I hate to be one of the people who said “I told you so.”

But I’m too polite for that.

another possibility I read

is that his biggest issue was the Blanche Lincoln amendment, and that Dodd told him not to worry, because that was only there for Lincoln’s election earlier this week and would get yanked in committee.

Lovely – if he trusts someone like Dodd to tell the truth (though it probably would be the truth for a change) then we’re in trouble.

Two Democrats voted no BTW – Feingold and Cantwell. Collins and Snowe offset them and Brown was the 60th vote.

I have a screen shot of their "dreaded rapid response teams"..

I absolutely believe OFA when they say they made this many calls. ALL calls are logged and recorded.

Unless Brown has some mega-chess strategy up his sleeve, which I highly doubt, I won’t be giving $$ to anyone except my own reps from now on. Who are responsible to ME alone.

Why are you all trying to figure this out.....Scott Brown is a northeastern Republican

AceInTX (Diary) Thursday, May 20th at 10:24PM EDT (link)

he wasn’t the victim of some dirty trick nor was he duped by Dodd into voting for it…

He’s a big government Republican in the big tent mold…there’s nothing more to be said!

so what is Iowa Republican Chuck Grassley's excuse?

pilgrim (Diary) Thursday, May 20th at 10:32PM EDT (link)

The state of Iowa is not in the northeastern part of the US, but Grassley joined Brown Collins and Snowe in voting aue for passage.

Iowa is not a conservative state

rrreaganite (Diary) Thursday, May 20th at 10:36PM EDT (link)

It went for Gore and Obama. And it went for Obama by a lot. Chuck is an institution in the state and a farily conservative Senator. Sometimes I think that we conservatives snipe at the 2 or 3 republicans that voted for passage rather than the 58 or so democrats who did. Focus on beating liberal dems from red states like Baucus, Tester, Pryor and Lincoln.

if Obama would have played ball...Obamacare would have Grassley's stamp of approval on it

he’s like the rest of them…my reference to the NE shouldn’t minimize the crap weasels from other parts of the country…but if its a NE Republucan you can bet you can’t trust them.

This isn’t the first time Brown has left the reservation and it won’t be the last.

why is Iowa different than Nebraska or Missouri?

pilgrim (Diary) Thursday, May 20th at 10:57PM EDT (link)

I do not know of any reason why the folks living in Iowa should be extremely different from their neighboring states. I think that his holding that seat for so long makes more sense than anything that can be said about the folks living in Iowa.

Iowa went for Obama and Gore

rrreaganite (Diary) Thursday, May 20th at 11:04PM EDT (link)

Nebraska and Missouri did neither. But pilgrim your point is valid and definitely right. I hate entrenched incumbency as much as the next guy. That’s why we need Term Limits just like Rand Paul says.

Instead of term limits I'm for repeal the 17th

pilgrim (Diary) Thursday, May 20th at 11:25PM EDT (link)

Once you have US Senators serving at the pleasure of the Governor and state legislators that the voters have elected for their state the term limits will take care of themselves.

I caution that because

rrreaganite (Diary) Thursday, May 20th at 11:27PM EDT (link)

Many states with conservative senators have democratic legislatures in governors. I don’t know if that would work in practice, definitely interesting though.

What do you think we should do about these moderates?

rrreaganite (Diary) Thursday, May 20th at 10:46PM EDT (link)

Because in Mass and Maine, they are pretty much the only game in town if we want to have Senators from those states.

What are they worth

reverelth (Diary) Thursday, May 20th at 10:54PM EDT (link)

if you can’t count on their votes when you need them?

If Barack Obama can exploit them to beat back the conservative ascendency?

Do they raise or lower the bar for conservatism? Because, thanks to the last few years, I don’t care if they call themselves Republicans or not.

The are worth

rrreaganite (Diary) Thursday, May 20th at 10:59PM EDT (link)

voting with the conservatives at least 60% of the time, rather than having a liberal vote with us 0% of the time. You are cutting off your nose to spite your face if you think we should get rid of them. Look I am a conservative, who gets frustrated with them too, but I know that in life and in politics you have to work in realism not idealism.. Ideally Tom Coburn would rock as a Senator from Maine, but realistically Snowe and Collins are the best alternatives.

Think about it this way

vinick Thursday, May 20th at 11:03PM EDT (link)

The alternative to a liberal Republican from a liberal state is usually an extremely liberal liberal. Just look at the man Scott Brown replaced. I doubt anyone here thinks the GOP is worse off with Scott Brown than it was with Teddy. The same could be said if Tom Campbell unseats Boxer, if Mark Kirk takes the Barack Obama/Roland Burris seat, if Mike Castle takes the Biden/Kaufman seat, etc. Hard core conservatives aren’t really an option in these states, but I doubt the people who say a liberal Republican and a Democrat are the same really mean it.

But I still demand more out of him

reverelth (Diary) Thursday, May 20th at 11:33PM EDT (link)

an I think I’m justtified for doing so.

Again, the end game for me is the day when Brown’s or Collins’ or Snowe’s votes won’t matter, and I see that happening later rather than sooner when guys like Brown are out there damaging the brand.

Brown voted for Obama’s asinine jobs bill and he just voted for a charade of a financial reform bill.

Exactly what are the 60% of the bills he killed I am supposed to thank him for?

that 50/50 can be a big difference from 51/49 since the majority leader has a lot more power than the minority leader. Beyond that perhaps there isn’t as big a difference. As we’ve seen with Obamacare, if the Dems don’t have 60 votes they can just cheat anyway and use 50 and the GOP won’t or can’t do anything about it.
