I have long maintained that the Democratic Party in America views minorities in a fundamentally racist way, and that this racism is clearly expressed in the policies they support. Just to give one example, there is quite a bit of merit to the notion that children who come from financially disadvantaged homes and neighborhoods deserve a leg up when it comes to, say college admissions. However, when the Democrats go about setting policy, they don’t seek to give children from financially disadvantaged children a leg up, they seek to give minority children a leg up (so long as those minorities are non-Asian). No one argues that there is a 1:1 correlation (or even nearly a 1:1 correlation) between being a non-Asian minority and being financially and socioeconomically disadvantaged, but any attempts to implement an affirmative action plan that operates on relevant socioeconomic factors (instead of on race per se) are stridently resisted by these Democrats, who are apparently under the impression that even wealthy non-Asian minorities are, as a class, less intelligent than whites and non-Asian minorities. This view is, by definition, racist.
Time and time again, elected Democrats expose this bigotry by admitting - often in embarrassing ways - that they have the same set of expectations for all people of a given minority (be it black, hispanic, or other). In their worldview, these privileged white liberals are simply incapable of understanding that people of a given minority are capable of thinking, believing, acting, or achieving as individuals, but instead must be patronizingly dealt with as some inferior class. Behold Exhibit A, Barbara Boxer attempting to deal with Harry Alford of the National Black Chamber of Commerce. The NBCC has done quite a lot research on cap and trade and climate change issues, and was testifying before the Senate Public Works Committee in support of the NBCC’s view. Boxer, apparently of the belief that all black people should feel the same about every given issue, counters the NBCC’s view with a resolution passed by the NAACP, despite its total non-relevance to anything Alford was discussing. Alford’s reaction was… well, you can see it for yourself:
Oh, but that is not nearly all. The Democrats have had a banner week in improving race relations this week. More below the fold…
Exhibits B and C come to us courtesy of Dick Durbin. Exhibit B we already covered yesterday. In Exhibit C, Durbin explains the District of Columbia shouldn’t be prevented from spending federal $ on abortion, despite the fact that 41 per cent of all pregnancies in the District of Columbia are already terminated in abortion even without federal funding.
The issue arose last Thursday when the Senate Appropriations Committee took up the bill that funds the federal district. Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) invoking President Bill Clinton’s formulation that abortion should be “safe, legal and rare,” asked why Congress should pursue a policy that will make abortion even more common in D.C. than it already is.
“Forty-one percent of pregnancies — that’s not rare,” he said. “We do not need to have more abortions in the District of Columbia.”
Durbin’s reply to this point — and Brownback’s interruption of him — follows below.
Durbin: In terms of safe, legal and rare, to the Senator from Kansas, I will tell you two things. First, it is a fact that a disproportionately large number of African Americans seek abortion in America, not just in the District of Columbia, but all across the nation.
Brownback: 41 percent?
Durbin: No, but it’s also a fact that a disproportionately large number of African Americans live in the District of Columbia.
Brownback: 41 percent?
Durbin: I’m telling you, look at the numbers.
Brownback: I’m telling — I’m just asking you, aren’t there enough [abortions] here?
Durbin: Look at the numbers, and you will find this to be true.
Brownback: This — this is not high enough?
Unbelievable. It is not so much that Durbin is pointing out a statistical fact about abortion (that a disproportionate number of pregnancies in the black community end in abortion), it is that he is using this as an argument for why there should be more abortions in D.C. That Durbin can say such a thing without any apparent effect on his conscience indicates how ingrained this racism is.
Look, we could do this all day. We could harken back to Biden explaining that Iowa’s schools performed better than DC schools because DC schools have more black kids than Iowa schools (sure, he eventually got around to the socioeconomic stuff, but his first thought? Too many blacks in DC.) But the point should be obvious by now to anyone who is paying attention - elected Democrats expect less as a class from minorities, both in terms of intelligence and behavior.
And that, folks, can’t be called anything other than what it is: racism.

In Boxer's view, Mr. Alford strayed from the plantation
jonreagan Thursday, July 16th at 4:28PM EDT (link)You sum up the liberals’ world view of minorities very well: victimology. They promise to provide lots of “goodies” from the welfare state, in exchange for absolute loyalty in the voting booth. Conservative women like Sarah Palin, and conservative African-Americans like Harry Alford are branded as traitors who just don’t know any better. Clearly they drive liberals like Barbara Boxer crazy, which is fun to watch.
What I really like here is that Alford called Boxer out on her hypocrisy, and basically ripped her face off—-unlike the usual timid witnesses on the Hill. This makes twice in a month that this hag has insulted witnesses…..a Brigadier General (call me Senator! not ma’m) three weeks ago, and a prominent African American businessman today. And you’re right: her outrageous treatment of this gentleman is racism, pure and simple.
Leon, I was thinking the same thing when Durbin said:
Jack_Savage Thursday, July 16th at 4:29PM EDT (link)“When we asked questions of the white male nominees of a Republican president, we were basically trying to … make sure that they would go far enough in understanding the plight of minorities, because clearly that was not in their DNA.”
So white males don’t have the ability to understand or empathize because of what they lack in their DNA? How about white women? Maybe a little more, but not as much as a Latina, and certainly not as much as a half-Latina, half- African American. That would be the jackpot!
Durbin also leaves out what he believes, but doesn’t say, is “in” or “out” of the DNA of minorities. Maybe they can understand each other, but succeeding in business, or doing well on standardized tests, or lifting themselves out of poverty may “not be in their DNA.” Predestination, Democrat style. Ricci, times one million.
Because, according to Durbin and other racist Democrats, we are all hard-wired for success or failure, class, attitude, political viewpoint and ability, without the possibility of improving or changing our circumstances. It’s either in our DNA, or not, according to them. They are obligated, noblesse oblige, to help others with our money because of the burdenof others’ inferior genetic make up. Justice Ginsberg goes so far as to promote Roe v Wade as a vehicle to reduce undesirable populations, which is simply an extension of the theory. With public health care, euthanasia is not far behind. After all, quality of life after 65 may not be in our DNA.
They believe this as surely as I sit here and type, and every move they make relies on the strict categorization of entire ethnic groups, according to what liberals believe is in their DNA.

Dencal26 Friday, July 17th at 10:15AM EDT (link)” When you get right down to it, you can call it just plain psychological warfare. It is pretty much what the maniacal propaganda minister for Adolph Hitler, Joseph Goebbels would say, “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, then people will begin to believe it”. That is what classic bigots of the far right movement are practicing when they claim that someone is a “racist” or a “reverse racist”. They exclaim that Affirmative Action is evil and is racist in principle. The real fact is that without Affirmative Action discrimination and the ills of racism fester and affect a targeted class in this nation, i.e. people of color and too often females regardless of color. It is just amazing how many people of color have risen so fast as a result of the victorious Civil Rights Movement. “Cream” will always rise to the top and with the lid of bigotry declared illegal and out of our way we are witnessing that fact. So let us be vigilant and protect our liberties and the laws that were won by our forefathers. We have come too far to turn around. The vile claims, lies and assertions by bigots with a microphone must not deter our progress. Let’s move on for we are just getting started. As the song says, “Ain’t No Stopping Us Now”.
A Hispanic Supreme Court Justice is well overdue. It would have happened much earlier if it weren’t for racism. True, Aaron
tanstaafl1019 Friday, July 17th at 1:37PM EDT (link)I was actually going to point that out myself–that if we’re parsing degrees of racism, then we’re calling into question the very existence of racism.
I’m reminded of an old joke where a man asked a woman if she would sleep with him for $10,000. She readily agreed. He then asked if she would sleep with him for $5, and she said, “What kind of girl do you think I am?”
His response: “We’ve already determined that. Now we’re just haggling on the price.”
Racism is racism is racism. Crossing the street to avoid a black teenager, refusing to hire someone due to their race and killing a black man who supposedly raped a white woman may be different degrees of racism, but they’re all wrong.
The two highest achievements of the human mind are the twin concepts of “loyalty” and “duty.” Whenever these twin concepts fall into disrepute—get out of there fast! You may possibly save yourself, but it is too late to save that society. It is doomed.
Be wary of strong drink. It can make you shoot at tax collectors–and miss.
Racism has acquired many meanings and can be de facto (as you recount) or de jure
Mike gamecock DeVine Friday, July 17th at 2:23PM EDT (link)but surely it is racism to punish a black man in a particularly racial way because he dares to differ with the liberal ideology.

skorrent1 Thursday, July 16th at 7:48PM EDT (link)Can someone explain to me again how electing Barack Obama would resolve all our racial tensions so we can “all just get along” in a post-racial world?
They don't want racial harmony

Mike gamecock DeVine Friday, July 17th at 12:50PM EDT (link)election would make the race issue worse. I was wrong, or at least I was hopeful…that this could be the one area that his election would have a positive effect on…
I will say this. I think Obama’s election coupled with the great recession is eroding most all tolerance for race games by whites anymore

Here's a 20-minute interview with Alford afterward
bk Thursday, July 16th at 11:14PM EDT (link)He said that the general Boxer had insulted contacted him after the debacle.
He gave a lot of background on himself and his group that makes it clear why he was so mad.
Toward the end of it he addresses the “black” CoC issue by saying she didn’t offer comments from some black-related BUSINESS group but rather from black SOCIAL groups, and that’s part of why he was offended.
He’s got quite a sense of humor too.
