God willing, this is the year we take our country back.

    Let’s go get ‘em!

deserved to be shut down, to 2012-2013, should be the years in which O Care is tossed to the trash heap of history, the EPA big cheeses are summarily dismissed, and the UN climate change group is defunded while American gas oil industry becomes unfettered in its production capacity.
2011 the year that ended with the USD breaking out and gold going into a bear market.
Buy US bonds cause they are better than anything else out there. Go 30 year bond.LOL for stocks.

Lane followed up on his first email later in the day with another blast against Drudge and other Romney sympathizers, and declaring that pro-Mitt forces are hoping “that Santorum does well in Iowa.” Lane’s second email is after the jump …

    Friends,

There’s only one thing wrong with Dionne and Drudge’s logic…probably 3 of the 4 Evangelical candidates in Iowa (after January 3rd) don’t go forward (Newt, Perry, Santorum or Bachmann)

The liberal Media and “Policy Boys” are giving Santorum a bump in Iowa at just the right time (if we had 2-3 weeks we could discuss Santorum backing Specter over Toomey in 04′, which cost Santorum his PA Senate seat in 2006
    http://www.redstate.com/erick/2011/12/29/rick-santorum-earmarxists-and-the-pro-life-statist/

    Then in 2008
    Santorum endorses Romney, Hates McCain
    and finally in 2008
Santorum endorses McCain over Huckabee in the 08′ Primary

…Romney needs Santorum in Iowa real bad…if Newt or Rick Perry get their ticket punched in Iowa, Romney’s dead

FOX (i.e., Krauthammer-former Mondale speech writer, brilliant, and certainly no Evangelical), National Review, Drudge Report, Ann Coulter, et al, have pulled out all the stops, they’re swinging for the fence for Romney

If Iowa Evangelicals will wake-up, the sound of the swirl of the porcelain oval will be Romney going down the toilet.

Romney’s only hope is that Santorum does well in Iowa, why?

Santorum pulls votes directly from Newt or Perry in Iowa

Newt 12′ announced yesterday it’s raised about $9M for the 4th Quarter…Santorum probably raised less than $400K
    http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/12/28/9782745-gingrich-campaign-says-it-raised-about-9m-in-fourth-quarter

Why is Romney pulling for Santorum?

If Santorum were to win the Iowa Caucus on January 3rd, he gets his ticket punched out of Iowa…

    and then what?

Santorum has to spend $2-3M per week (the 2nd, 3rd and 4th weeks of January–$6-$10M) to compete in the 10 media markets for the Florida Primary January 31st…and Santorum’s broke

Alas, maybe one day our constituency will wake up

…but our DC leadership and “Policy Boys” are playing checkers on a checker board, and the game is actually chess.

and if conservatives do not wake up, we will once again be left with the guy nobosy likes, Obama care will become complete reality and we will never see a true tenth amendment movement this decade. I hope this is not what happens.

Check out the DMR poll results (posted below). I find them quite discouraging.

          • texanlady

Romney and Paul dominate. Paul is in second place in New Hampshire, too. They are the only two on the ballot in Virginia. Romney is like John Kerry and Paul is Ralph Nader. What happened?

  • kowalski

All our contentious voices, everyone expressing them, to each and all: Don’t get despondent and don’t become embittered. Hold fast to your principles but be willing to understand others disagree.

    On more corporeal things:

Do something nice for yourselves, each of you. I remember here when Mike Krempasky quit smoking a few years ago. I can attest what a difficult thing that is to do.

Do something healthy for yourselves in this new year. Don’t overindulge tonight, and think about how to make yourselves healthier and happier. Slim down. My goal is to lose another 30 pounds I gained as a result of living with irascible liberals in Chicago.

Give generously to your friends, your churches, and your local civic organizations. Have a voice in everything you care about and be clear and reasonable, not bombastic and scatterbrained. Renew again for yourself the desire to read and admire our Constitution and understand it. Accept nothing less from America than believing it must still remain the Land of Opportunity.

Take it upon yourself to help, to the greatest extent of your abilities, those around you who are less fortunate and those who are caught in circumstances beyond their control. Exercise good judgment and try with everything you have to help them. Do your best to understand that in difficult times the measure of our worth as a nation will be how well we pull through adversity together and build a better future.

Above all, be proud to be Americans and continue to love our country. May God bless us all in this new year. Above all, let us all work productively toward better days ahead.

Save money when you can, spend money when you should, and don’t cheat. Hold our politicians – your politicians – accountable for their lapses of judgment and do so as thoughtful people.

Above all work to counteract this antideluvian baloney and hocus pocus about Mayan catatstrophic 2012 predictions and a lack of belief in Democracy. Persuade people with your ideas and your decency. Love each other. Love your children and your parents. Find ways to bring work and business to places where they don’t exist. Think about ways to reinvigorate America. Make a moral resolution to be a Square Dealer with other people.

Understand your rights and your liberties and defend them with eveything you have. And above all:

Don’t take anything you have for granted. Nothing is promised to you, and everything ultimately comes from you.

    Happy New Year!

amazing, to say the least. Those beautiful clear, pure voices blend perfectly.

Reminds me of back in the day when Joan Baez was singing – she also had the voice of an angel, but her politics were horrible. But those pure angelic voices don’t come along very often.

Thanks for making me smile and tap my feet, gek! Happy New Year to you and yours, my friend.

People talk about how in the Carter years, so many people got fooled into thinking America was in decline, and even some conservatives thought we should just accept that.

        Instead, we reversed it.

It seemed so obvious in the 80s and 90s that it was nonsense, but here we go again. People saying America is in decline all over again.

It’s time to reverse it again.

Well, I see Ron Paul has given the neocon wasp nest a really good poke, and the neocons are buzzing about angrily indeed. Paul is actually serious about substantially reduciing the size, scope, and intrusiveness of government and returning to something like the foreign policy envisioned by our country’s founders. In other words, he is calling for real change, and change in the right direction. The attempt by status quo apologists to portray him as nuts is only to be expected, but coming from big-government phony conservatives and warmongers I doubt it will succeed. Whether he makes it to the presidency, Paul is performing the essential spadework for a renaissence of liberty in this country. He deserves to live long enough to see the project succeed. Oh, and, relevant to some of the “conspiracy” ridicule he has received on this site, suffice to say that I am far more concerned about the accumulation of arbitrary power in Washington than I am about some pathetic barbarians holed up in the hills of Pakistan or whatever.

Iowa Poll Dec 27-30: Romney leads at 24. Paul 22, Santorum 15, Gingrich 12, Perry 11, Bachmann 7.

    But there’s a twist!

Final 2 days of DMRegister polling alone: Santorum elbows ahead to 21, Paul in 3rd at 18. Romney remains same at top, 24. Others same order

Here’s the DM Register story: story on Iowa results: http://caucuses.desmoinesregister.com/2011/12/31/romney-leads-paul-in-new-des-moines-register-iowa-poll-santorum-surging/

    • RealQuiet

My bet is quite a few votes from Gingrich, Perry, and Bachmann will defect and put Santorum over the top on Romney. He has all the momentum. Could be tight for second place between Romney and Paul. (sigh) Well, Santorum and his campaign team really have their work cut out for them with the next couple of states and building an organization. South Carolina is do or die for Perry and Gingrich.

    • lizzie

The other twist is that 35% still could change their minds.

So, Happy New Year to all, and see how Paul and Bachmann do on “This Week”, once again with George Steph…poulos, and Rick Santorum on “Meet the Press” and, fwiw, FOX’s Chris Wallace has Paul, Bachmann, and Gov. Perry.

Actually, I mostly await Jon Stewart’s return on Monday night, not that that will change any minds in Iowa, but I need a good 15-minute laugh to start 2012 because laughter is the best medicine for the Iowa blues,

      and the O’BAM!economy.

Happy 2012 in spite of him.

      • RealQuiet

He practically has hardly any organization to compete with Romney beyond Iowa. Those caucus gatherings could be very feisty on Tuesday night. Santorum is this year’s Huckabee. Iowa flash in the pan, then an empty shell afterwards. If Iowa wants to be irrelevant then, that’s the majority’s choice. Perry has an awfully big margin to make up. I’m always the optimist but even I have to admit his ground game has a very large uphill climb the next 72 hours.

  • lastgopinillinois

Maybe I was one of the lucky ones. I live in an ancient house that I bought in 1978 and still drive my first car (’55 Ford Fairlane) daily. Obviously the house was paid off decades ago, and the car was purchased for cash on the spot, back in 1972 when I was 16, so I cant remember what it was like to have a loan payment to make each month.
Through the year as utility rate hikes and other forms of inflation took effect, I found ways to cut costs by lowering my standard of living in an effort to keep from going into the red. Here in the “black-and-blue” State of illinois, we had a 66% income tax increase, which I will need to pay on Jan 15th. In 2010 I became an independent consultant as many companies around continued to downsize. So, now, I have absolutely no benefits and became unable to obtain health insurance. However I was able to get a lot of work with a small company thru 2010 and 2011. Prior to the economic downturn, I earned $25.00 per hour working direct, full-time for a company. I agreed to work for $18.00 per hour for the small company I am now working for, so income has dropped drastically. However, an accounting of my 2011 receivables and expenditures shows that even though I had only earned about $12,000 for the year 2011, I still saved about $2000 over the year.
Some of the things I did to cut expenditures include:
Disconnecting power to the garage, except when power was needed.
Unplugging lamps and appliances when not in use.
Use a portable electric heater during winter to reduce natural gas usage. I got a substantially lower utility bill from doing this.
    Discontinued cable TV service.
Discontinued land-line telephone service. Thats a savings of $396/year. Now I use Majic-Jack for my phone service. It only costs $20/year (all calls are free).
The drawback to that is; I power-down my computer when it is not in use, so you cannot place calls on the phone, but it will take a message if incoming calls occur during the time the computer is off.
During the warm weather months I planted a vegetable garden. I never needed to buy any vegetables at the grocery while the garden was producing, and I actually gave away more than I used myself. I tilled the garden myself with an old roto-tiller, and the seeds only cost a couple bucks, so I was able to substantially reduce my grocery bill. But it was A LOT of work keeping the garden in good shape.
I do all my home and car repairs myself, so there was no need for emergency spending if something broke. The week before Christmas, my ’55 Ford carburator got clogged up. It took me 5 minutes to remove the carb, 15 more minutes to take it apart and anothr 15 to clean it. I didnt spend any money fixing the carb, but I did spend a couple bucks on a new gas filter.
Meanwhile, my neighbors 10 year old car broke down and costed him over $1000 to get it fixed not counting the towing charge. So, am I the lucky one? If so, I can’t find anyone who would give you a plug nickel for my house or my junk car either one.
In 2011, my earnings and standard of living decreased drastically, but I am still in the black for now. I have been wanting to move to find new opportunity elsewhere (out of illinois), but I am stuck until the housing market starts gaining some ground again. A lot of people are in the same boat. They cant move unless they are willing to lose tens of thousands of dollars in the equity they have in their current home. It is impossible to make-up that kind of a loss in this economy.
In summary, 2011 seems like a year that stood still for me. Despite all the effort, I was unable to make much measurable gain financially. But the larger damage, was due to the 35% loss I suffered during the market crash of ’08 in my retirement funds. I bailed out of the market and have kept what I had left in money market funds ever since, so theres been no increase in the value of my funds, but I have felt that the stock market has been much too volatile to get back into.
2012 will be one more year of 0bamas failed economic policies and a huge loss for the American people. I am NOT looking forward to 2012 ! We must put conservative Republicans in every branch of govt we can in Nov 2012. I cannot see at this point how I can continue to hold my own for another four more years of campaigner-in-cheif 0bama.

    • carolina

Any chance you could rent your house out while you go work elsewhere? Just a thought…..
Good luck and Happy New Year!

      • lastgopinillinois

I had thought about that, but there are two big problems:

A new resident cannot obtain an occupancy permit (owner or renter) until the house has been brought up to local codes (which are very stringent here in the “black-and-blue” state).
The house would be required to have a new electrical service entrance and the house fuse box would need to be replaced with a breaker box. I would need to add carbon-monoxide and smoke detectors and the kitchen would need to be gutted and re-done to satisfy modern electrical code. The bedrooms would need to have arc-fault receptacles as well. The garage would need to comply with code also.
When I rebuilt this place decades ago, I did it using ancient electrical equipment that I had refurbished (but it did not cost me anything). I could stay here forever and not spend a dime due to the grandfather clause in the building code.
Second, landlords take a big risk renting here. I wouldn’t dare rent out and then leave town. If something goes wrong, I would be too far away to just pop over and fix it. Renters here will sue you at the drop of a hat.

    • lizzie

are very harsh for so many millions who do not have your no-debt status, and amazing resilience.

All I can do is suggest Vanguard for whatever remains of your retirement funds – the last trust-worthy financial mutual fund that still stands. I manage to stay afloat because of them. Except 2012 is when I start spending the savings that generate income, accounting for my fantasy that confidence will return, and Dodd-Frank will stop strangling the entire housing market.

and try listening to Benny Goodman:
“Sing, Sing, Sing” (with a Swing), all 8:38 minutes of it:

and there was an underground protest movement in Hamburg that defied the ban so they could dance to SWING. Many of these teenagers went to prison. A mediocre movie starring a very young Christian Bale tells the true story: “Swing Kids”

I just danced my way thrrough all 8:38 minutes except when I let the beauty of Benny’s clarinet fill me, remembering how my dad, may he be at peace, danced with me as a 3-4 year old, to this wonderful music.

The Nazis hated the USA for being a “mongrel race” and for listening to “Jew music by Benny Goodman”. True historical note is that Goodman integrated the Big Band era – he refused to play without Lionel Hampton, and it worked.

Maybe this is what will drive the Paulbots away since I doubt a silver bullet would work :)

use music to alter a mood, and that works well for me.

I was born in 1940, and my biological father dumped my mother, my little brother and me in 1944. My Mom was quite the pianist – though she could read music, she mostly played by ear. We moved to Oklahoma City to live with my maternal grandparents, and every night Mom would play the most beautiful music for my brother and me to go to sleep – all the while with tears rolling down her face. The war was on, I had two uncles serving with no clue as to where they were. Times were not a lot of fun, yet I always felt safe and loved. We do have our memories, don’t we.

As for the “Jew” music, all I’ve gotta say is ‘THANK GOD ABOVE” for what we were given. I hope and pray that Hitler and every single Nazi who ever lived are spinning like tops in their graves – no rest or peace for them EVER. And I place Ron Paul and his droolers in almost the same category! You are truly blessed to come from such a background.

May 2012 be a great year for all of us, and it most certainly will be for me when Rick Perry is our nominee! I truly feel he is the ONE to lead us through the wilderness of b.o.’s reign.

          • greyeagle

I love Vera Lynn and have all of her music. Jo Stafford and the Andrews Sisters were great too.

making it nearly impossible to choose a final favorite. I just love music, and most all kinds except for rap and some of that heavy metal stuff they say is music. To me, if you can’t dance to it, it isn’t music! I think the 40′s produced such beautiful music due to the tough times with the war and families being seperated. Sort of a bittersweet time, I suppose.

Happy New Year to you and yours, greyeagle!

        • lizzie

and there was an underground protest movement in Hamburg that defied the ban so they could dance to SWING.

Sing, Sing, Sing (with a Swing), by Benny Goodman
          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Jn9_Ci12tQ

The Nazis hated the USA for being a “mongrel race” and for listening to “Jew music by Benny Goodman”. True historical note is that Goodman integrated the Big Band era – he refused to play without Lionel Hampton, and it worked.

Maybe this is what will drive the Paulbots away since I doubt a silver bullet would work :)

          Happy New Year, for real!

at least, for that confidence to return and Dudd/Frank to be repealed. And if 0-bama is re-elected, or if Romney is elected, there will be no repeal.
Lets keep our fingers crossed, our noses to the grindstone and pray that we can get conservatives elected in every branch of govt in Nov, 2012.

are little soapstone cubes (about 1/2 inch cubed) that you freeze in the freezer and then put them in a glass of whiskey to keep it cool. Obviously they don’t melt, so the whiskey stays cold without it being watered down (like with ice).

I also got a bottle of Bushmills and some new glasses, so I’m using the entire kit (apologies to Ron White for the Irish whiskey instead of scotch)

I enjoy the conversation on Red State. I enjoy the opportunity to discuss my former Governor Rick Perry. We loved living in TX and saw first hand his abilities not only as Governor but in other roles. We moved to Florida the middle of last year to be near family. Red State gives me a forum to share my knowledge of Governor Perry. Hopefully 2012 will be a good year for all of us.

You make some ridiculous claim, & I address every single thing you say and more…and then you don’t respond.

Probably I suspect, cuz you’re like “let me cut my losses, maybe no one will see it” if I don’t respond to it.

You’re as incompetent as your candidate. Fine. I’m not going to give well thought-out responses to propagandists anymore. I read “Perry” I go the other way…just don’t pretend the post doesn’t exist. He’s beyond finished anyway, so what’s the point?

Have your “tiny victory for today”, Perry dudes. Like your candidate, you probably couldn’t even write your own name on a grocery receipt, let alone come up w/ any reasons that make any sense why he should rule the most powerful country the world has ever seen.

I post this link, not to call anyone out, but merely to show that when they thought I was a Romney drone, there were five responses…when they find out that’s not true, and I refute everything they say…nothing…

Same as their candidate Perry: Nothing. All hat and no cattle. That’s a shame. Oh, yeah, such a shame! And it’s a pattern on other threads too.

Pro Tip: it’s not the world’s or the Party’s fault that Rick Perry peed the political bed nine times in a row. Put rubber underwear on him next time.

      • trickamsterdam

No happy New Year to you, old dude (I’m referring to the “Hinz Rule”, obviously, btw, when I talk about “the rule” he referred to).

    • trickamsterdam

me w/ more respect than I deserved. Especially those who wished me well because of the bad year, thank you.

To pay you back for putting up w/ me, let me write a better post on Gov Perry.

I was actually a huge Perry supporter. Can’t remember if I’d joined Redstate yet, but got into many an argument defending him both on the Internet and off. Most of the time I did a better job than the lousy job I did on this thread.

I started to lose faith during the debates. His inability to defend his position on Soc Security was the bell cow issue for me. I knew Obama would cut him to pieces in the general on that. Just demagogue him into hell.

I know why Perry has problems w/ that issue. It’s not so much that it’s unconstitutional, as much as it’s corrupt (i.e., they’re spending the money in the trust fund). And states are generally more efficient handling these things.

But it’s like the 1964 civil rights bill…somehow liberals can argue that the worst child rapist should get a fair trial, but if you suggest that racists should be allowed to do what they want w/ their property (and this doesn’t mean that they can’t be boycotted, that any money they get from the government is cut off, that there could be strong tax incentives for non-racist businesses, etc) it’s taken as if you’re supporting racism.

Conservatives can’t defend that constitutional principle, even though liberals can defend KSM and his “rights”. This is because they still (although it’s less every year) control the MSM.

So when I see Perry being unable to defend the SS position (from Romney, and in front of a Republican audience), I’m like “OK, Obama would really cut him to pieces on the issue in a general election”.

Then more gaffes followed. His conservatism is actually the closest to mine of any of the candidates…because I’m kind of a Calvin Coolidge old school type.

Perry is a terrifically successful self-made man. He is a winner at life. Really, they all are…it makes me laugh when the comedian Richard Lewis actually says (I’m not taking this out of context) “Herman Cain couldn’t even be a door man”. Yeah, he could just get a masters in computer science from a good university and become a self-made millionare, but he couldn’t be a door man. Why, just because he couldn’t be President, he’s a moron who can’t even open doors?

I think we forget, that just because you maybe don’t have what it takes to be president, doesn’t mean that you aren’t more successful than 99.99 % of the country.

Again my apologies to Gov Perry and Perry supporters. No, I don’t think he can win because he makes too many mistakes. But he’s a terrifically successful and admirable man. Really all of them are (even Sen Santorum, who I can’t stand because I grew up in PA, and have not forgiven him for the Toomey/Spector betrayal).

Anyway, I apologize again for embarassing myself, and thank most people for taking it w/ humor, and not rancor. Let us all hope this next year is better than this miserably bad last one.

      • romansdaughter

And everyone is entitled to their opinion. I would like to tell you too that I also cringed quite a bit in those first debates and was wondering what was wrong. Rick Perry apparently is not one to whine about things and I have discovered through others that due to back surgery in July he was still dealing with that and it takes a while to heal from that kind of surgery I am told. When he went on David Letterman after his oops moment I actually saw him slightly cringe and he held himself quite stiffly. Yes he admitted that he should have had the back surgery earlier but of course he didn’t decide to run for President until the end of June. But I believe still that he has the best record. But I certainly don’t hold it against you if you prefer someone else. I just hope this year 2012 will be a good one for you.

        • trickamsterdam

I also agree Gov Perry probably has the best record. In fact, he probably has a better resume to be President than Pres Obama (that’s because I’ll take a successful governor of a state as big as a medium-sized country, over a failed President of a large country). Newt also, as a successful speaker of the House, probably literally also has a better resume to be President than Obama.

I have no doubt whoever wins the nomination will be able to take Obama. I’m just not sure that anyone can win the nomination anymore. I think there are some very good candidates who have kinda blown it…made too many mistakes, and it’s probably (although, not definitely) too late.

To me this is less about conservatism, than survival at this point. I really think a second term by Pres Obama could do permanently damage to the US (not destroy it, but really hurt it). Not because he’s a traitor or a secret Muslim or whatever, but because he is going to use that veto to stop an R congress from doing anything to fix our budget or repeal and replace ObamaCare, etc.

Let’s just let it all play out. Everyone should just vote their conscience and use their best judgement.

In the end the process will achieve what it is designed to: produce a candidate who can take Obama down.

          • pttx333

As for our dear reader in chief, b.o., he’s never accomplished anything that could be deemed as productive for our great nation. He HAS, though, done everything he can to destroy it as we know it – willfully and intentionally, and, seemingly, with glee. HE is our enemy.

      • http://www.changeforrickperry.org louisianapatriette

I know I’ve shared in your frustration; I try to preach to myself (reminding myself that I cannot in good conscience support anyone else, and that God is in control of all things). Take heart and move forward with courage and confidence. I for one am looking forward to standing with you and all these great people in 2012!

  • J. Leg

I’ve been debating this now for a while. I just don’t like Santorum. I think his politics are toxic for the future of the Republican Party and the future of The Church. We need to be emphasizing fiscal conservatism, not social conservatism.

So who’s better? I’m almost inclinded to say I’d rather have Mitt Romney. My order as of now is as follows:

    1. Newt
    2. Perry
    3. Huntsman
    4. Romney
    5. Bachmann
    6. Santorum
    7. Paul

    Am I off base here?

    • texasref

Romney to the 7 spot. Other than that, I’m undecided.

    • http://impudent.edublogs.org/ kyle8

I would settle for Romney, Rick Sanctimonium is just a bridge too far and Bachmann blew it with me when she belligerently and in some cases unfairly attacked the other candidates.

Newt would be great but he just has waaaaay too much baggage, I am now convinced he would lose against Obama.

Romney is not great, but he would be a welcome change from Obama, I have no doubt that he would try to fulfill at least half of his fiscal policy, and that would still be pretty great.

      • http://www.examiner.com/x-1597-Charlotte-Law--Politics-Examiner Mike gamecock DeVine

but Romeny is not Satan, and I think that he would be a refreshing return to orthodox Americanism and would unleash some hope of a recovery of some magnitude.

      • circlegranch

and when we talk about settling, it means we’re falling prey to media hype which is exactly what they want. If you think Perry is the best choice, stand up and support him with your words, your money and put a bumper sticker on your vehicle. Show your support and you’ve encourage others to follow you. It takes courage and its hard but its noble. It’s not over and its not time for the 75% that don’t like Romney to give up, throw up hands and allow the media, right and left, to pick our candidate.

It’s a new year! Don’t start yours with a defeatist, go along to get along attitude! Fight back! The media would have us believe Iowa might end up being Perry’s Valley Forge but don’t count on it and even if it is, his Yorktown is still to come. The media is our Cornwallis and it, too, can be forced to surrender. Nobody said this would be easy. Either be ready to go the distance or go ahead and quit.

        • pttx333

when there is no choice. In the primary, I have that choice which has always been and will remain as such — drum roll here — Rick Perry! I know he is the one who will deliver and will not falter. Why “settle” for a chicken neck when you can have filet mignon??

his poor precious dog tied on top of his car? That is all I see when I look at Romney – fair or not, that is just the way I see him and would never consider voting for him even if that was the only reason to not do so. Only a creepy, slimy snake would ever do such a thing!

The picture above is okay, but it makes him appear manly – and THAT he ain’t!!!

  • SoFiMil

This would account for the discrepancy in the large enthusiastic crowds at Perry’s campaign stops vs. the coffee house gatherings at Santorum’s events.

    • gracie

Rick Santorum in no way compares to Rick Perry.

      The End.

      • SoFiMil

And I also believe both Rick Perry and Rick Sandtorum are honorably men. Just like Perry’s ideology and style a whole lot more.

        • znjs

I assumed it was a joke aimed at those who can’t accept poll numbers that don’t show what they want to see – that the media is somehow making up a Santorum surge which just happens to be reflected in increasing numbers of polls. You were serious about this?

          • SoFiMil

I don’t doubt the poll numbers itself. And although I’m not in Iowa, I don’t see — other than polling — any following for Santorum. I do see by way of visual images, a large body of support for Perry.

And I’m not saying Iowa caucus goers are idiots. But maybe they got the names confused when being polled?

Just throwing it out there. Not saying that’s what’s happening. I myself would say no, but maybe some RedStaters can either complete discredit or validate this possibility. Either way, I’m cool.

            Go Rick (Perry), go!

          • gracie

Although I read your post several times I got your meaning exactly backwards!

I thought you meant that people are getting the Rick’s names mixed up so are going to the Perry rallys by mistake!

But you meant they are liking Perry but polling for Santorum…same first name, two tall dark haired guys. NOW I get you.

It does make one think. Perry’s reception at stops is real! you can see it in the photos. And I personally cannot understand how people would not find him more engaging in person. So…why the Santorun surge?? Hey, you may be onto something.

Regardless, the Santorum surge could not come at a worse time. It’s ruining Rick Perry’s Second Look!!

          • SoFiMil

I figured something got lost in the translation and my muddled explanation.

I suddenly thought of the idea last night, but have no basis for supporting or refuting this hypothesis.

your time zone, but I’m still on Dec. 31st and that is okay. Forty-nine years ago tonight at 7:56 my son was born … last baby that year in Ector County and we had our pictures on the front page of the newspaper. Sure was shocked when a reporter and photographer with the newspaper showed up in my room early the next morning! But like I always tell him, I’m not old enough to have a kid with a couple of gray hairs AND to not forget EVER that Mom spelled upside down is WOW! So, yeah, still being Dec. 31st is okay with me – it is a special day.

Yes, I always pay attention to words of any song. The words to Sing Out are great ones, gek. Oh, and I just adore the little cutie-pie peanut who dances around playing the violin! Celtic Woman is great – glad you chose to showcase them tonight!!!

I’m just happy that so many othrers seam to like what I like.

But the best thing is that she has a heart of pure gold, and that is true of my son, too. I’ve just been blessed by having them. Can’t imagine not having had them. Aren’t they just the greatest? Even though when they’re growing up you sometimes wish they would go play in the street? ;-)

What’s not to like with that wonderful group, gek? They are great and just make you feel good, comfy and happy. Not a thing in the world wrong with that!

So it is onward and upward to get our guy to 1600 in DC. He and Anita will bring us dignity and graciousness once again. The crapola we’ve had to put up with from the herd that resides there now is beyond embarrassing!

            Mom

      • westcoastpatriette

So good to have you back. There was definitely a void here without you. Happy New Year and I hope you are feeling better from your wrist troubles.

        • pttx333

Thanks for the welcome home … it is nice to know that you are missed. I don’t know that I contribute much here on RS, but I certainly enjoy visiting with all of you and talking about our guy Perry – and, maybe, hopefully, others straddling the fence might make a choice to come to the “right” side. I’m just so happy to be back in my own little routine and spending many hours on RS – particularly during this trying time. But, mark my words, we WILL prevail! I just reminded gracie about the tortoise and the hare story … Perry is our tortoise, and he will bring it home for our beloved country. My, oh, my, I can just see him and his beautiful Anita gracing OUR White House just as soon as the cleaning crews can fumigate the place.

The wrist/hand troubles may always be with me, I fear. My doc wants me to go to a rheumatologist, but I’m waffling on that. My late husband took methotrexate for 9 years and it ended up killing him – fibrosis. But … I’m hanging in there, fighting the good fight and all that jazz. Thanks for asking, though, dear heart.

And I hope you and yours have a wonderful and blessed New Year!

    • lineholder

And it’s a great message…perhaps one we’d be wiser to heed a bit more going into the new year.

For if there’s anything the people of this nation need right now, it’s to hear confidence and exuberance from those of us who do still believe that, despite all the obstacles in our path, it is indeed possible for us to turn things around.

Happy New Year, gekster! And thanks again.

      • gekster

        ya got me blushing.
I’m just glad to bring some happiness to you.
Happy New Year, and God bless.

ps: I choose this one because of the conservative message that is implied.
        Listen agin, you’ll see it.

    • gracie

Never heard these lovely ladies until tonight. Each voice more beautiful than the last…clear as bells. LOVE the message.

Will be stealing this and sharing the joy.
      Don’t think you will mind.

      • gekster

        it can never be stolen.
Do a youtube search “Celtic Women A new Journey” and the whole dvd is there.

        Oh what the heck.
        Here is the whole dvd.
        Enjoy.
I’m glad so many like this.

When Angels sing, the heart is lifted. ;)
Happy new year and God bless and make you prosperous, to all, friend and foe alike.

        God bless.

        • gracie

I meant to say share not steal…But I know what you mean. You gave them as a gift from the heart. We received. Beautiful. I just wanted to send this one song around. I will buy the cd on iTunes.

Yes, I was just at their site and reading the works to Sing Out!

          “Sing Out!”
Sing a new song to the world
          Let your voice be heard
          Go and bring the word
This whole world was meant to be
For you as well as me
          For humanity

We all travel the same road
          Carry the same load
          Reap what we have sowed
You are hoping just like me
          To live with dignity
          Hoping to be free

Sing out, sing out, sing to the world
Sing out, you will be heard
Sing the message and the word
Sing a new song to the world
Sing out, sing to the world

If your God’s the same as mine
          Has been for all time
          Why are we so blind?
What we’re doing in his name
          Well, its a crying shame
          Sing Out!
          We all cry the same

Sing out, sing out, sing to the world
Sing out, you will be heard
Sing the message and the word
Sing a new song to the world
Sing out, sing to the world

gekster: a kind and giving person. Wish I had your words of wisdom about lying when I was raising my son. We may think our children are learning by our example but maybe not. You have to be explain and be firm with them. Shooze is blessed!

          .

          • gekster

For as big a mouth I have, I am now speechless by your words to me.
Not to many can do that, and I am humbled.
But I am glad to have brought you, and Mom also, joy.
I don’t know what to say, but thanks for warming my heart.
(happy face with a tear in the eye here)

        • pttx333

“The Prayer” and the tears started flowing. I have only heard Celine Dion and Josh Groban sing it, and it has always brought me to my knees. It is played at weddings and is just perfect for the occasion. The words and the clear beautiful voices are perfect. I’ll probably listen to the rest of it tomorrow when I’m not so weepy. ;-)

You really have a knack for picking the music, gek, and I sure do appreciate it so very much. Beautiful music is a gift straight from God.

          Wow, just wow!

          Mom

          • gekster

I apply it to you also.
Thanks, both of you have given me words of love.
            I am speechless.
(another happy face with a tear in the eye)

          • pttx333

Most of the time we never know when we touch someone with kind words, but I’m here to tell you that yours touch me. Thank you, gek, for just being gek.

And that gracie … her name is just perfect, doncha think? Suits her to a tee. She lives maybe 70 miles from me, so she’s a good ole Texas gal.

Thanks again, gek, for all that you do for us!

Sipping beer, only 10 here, with my twin 15MO Daughters…
It is hard not to be optimistic.
      Happy NY

      • gekster

        My youngest is 26.
Enjoy them while they are young.
You’ll spend time teaching them to speak, and when they do, you’ll wish they would shut up.
You’ll teach them to walk, and then wish they would stay in one place.
You’ll teach them to eat, and then tell them not to eat all the time.
The roller coaster that is childhood will be both a blessing and a curse.
        But remember one thing.
Time lost with them is never gotten back, and is forever gone.
And one thing about young kids, they make mistakes.
        That is thier job.
And as a parent and grand parent, I always tell them, if you don’t lie to me when you make a mistake, I can’t punish you. Kids make mistakes. Thats what they do.
But if you lie to me, your ass is mine.
        Remeber. Kids make mistakes.
        Take it accordingly.
Be happy God blessed you with them.
Good luck on your roller coaster ride. ;)

        • snowshooze

At 51 years old, and my Darling Wife 50… and these our first and only offsprings…lol..we are blessed.
They learned to crawl a bit over a month ago… and that is when the trouble started. ( Preemies, born at 6 1/2 months )
Million dollar babies. Both of ‘em. Insurance company just thought they were gonna win on this one.
It was the scariest time of my entire life, wondering if in the morning, I would have either of them left.
But we are out of the w`oods

          • gekster

            /////// :)

          • snowshooze

They stand and get into stuff now, they will walk just about any time.

            Anyway, glad I didn’t start at 20.
And so far, I am perfect. Haven’t yelled once.
And they are sweet and happy bugs. I got lucky.
I start each day by beating them .
They change from day to day.
            Glad I didn’t miss out.

        • pttx333

the memories … and I would give anything to have those years back. gek, your words are so beautiful and so very true.

The hardest part of being a parent is when your children are adults, and you can no longer protect them and keep them safe. Having to keep your mouth shut when things are no longer any of your business is a tough one, too. So enjoy those babies and hold them dear to your heart.

God bless you on your magnificent road, ‘shooze. There is nothing more rewarding – nothing.

          • snowshooze

Last year, they were in ICU.
            Best Christmas ever.
I don’t think I ever knew what happiness was before.

          • pttx333

just meant to be. And, no, there is no greater joy and no greater happiness. You are at the top of the mountain, so enjoy it. I know that you and your wife do, though. What a true blessing that they pulled through and are now okay. It was simply God’s will that they live.

          • snowshooze

Yep, life is hard…but it is great.
            Happy New Year!

          • pttx333

and part of your job even. So there … you are free to continue as you were. ;-)

          • gracie

and a little envious…always wanted a daughter. They will be perfect until they are 12.5 then look out! That’s when my son told me to “get a life.” Of course, gulp, he was right.

My words of unsolicited advice: make sure they learn respect. I was raised by people who told me to shut up so I wanted him to respect me but to have his say and learn to be confident. Problem…he got away with disrespect too often, thus turned into a BIG mouth. He is still doing it!

Another reason my writing you…oxverlook this if I am wrong or you have solved this but I seem to remember your not being able to hear the debates due to your location. Of course I can’t solve this is real time but do you know about this site that not only has the upcoming debates but also you can access the ones you missed? http://www.2012presidentialelectionnews.com/2012-debate-schedule/2011-2012-primary-debate-schedule/

You probably already know this. Sometime tell us what it’s like where you live? Most of us will never see it there! Hug those girls!

  • stumpy

    1. Perry – true conservative, has brain farts, 2nd amendment, 10th amendment, government shrinker
    2. Newt – idea man, baggage, will sell out for power and a buck
    3. Huntsman – stuffy, disconnected, mostly conservative
    4. Bachmann – true conservative, never lets the truth get in the way of a good soundbite, abrasive, annoying
    5. Santorum – family values, big government solutions, whinny
    6. Romney – politically soulless, no true convictions he won’t exchange for power, poster boy for Obama’s villian, doesn’t relate to the common voter
    7. Paul – economic conservative, a little nutty, supported by many real nutjobs, foreign policy niave.

That is my order. Perry is the only candidate that is a solid, across-the-board conservative, will take it to Obama, outsider, solid record, will excite the base. Perry only real flaw (minor issues ignored) is his gaffe prone performances. He has greatly improved these. He has an apparent nack for getting under an opponents skin without appearing to attack.

Presidential elections are won by the most likeable candidate, not the issues, ideology, running mate, region, economic conditions, debate performance, etc. These factors establish or remove likeability, but are mostly irrelevant compared to likeability. The swing voter by in large puts less thought into voting as who they want to win American Idol. It sounds simplistic, but talk to a few sometime. They don’t sweat the big stuff, much less the small. Bachmann would be higher if she could stick to the truth. Paul would be higher if the Presidents power over economic and foreign policy was reversed, so he could actually dismantle most of the federal goverment and be checked by Congress on his hands-off, isolationist foreign policy. We need a less hawkish President than most of the Republicans, but not a Ron Paul on the other end. Perry seems to have a good balance.

May your best in 2011 be your worst in 2012.

It’s been a rollercoaster year for my family, but I’m thankful for the many blessings in my life. My God, my family, my country, my friends, my job, and everything that comes with having each of those things.

Thanks to redstate for being my political family.

We miss you. Take your time, but visit when you can.

  • stumpy

Romney and Obama, it is like being caught in a bear trap. You have a gun and a knife with no other options. Do you cut off your leg (vote for Romney) or shoot yourself in the head (vote for Obama)? Is rather live. A bit morbid, but a good analogy. Here’s to hoping we have bolt cutters!

    Vote Perry 2012!

    • acat

I’ll figure out how to live after gnawing off my own leg if I have to, but yeah, hoping for bolt cutters. (and a big finish for Perry in Iowa would be a good start…)
