Trump's Campaign Shakeup is the Best Possible Thing For the Country

Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up.

I’ve been saying for months that there is a deluded segment of America that believes somehow that all of America is with them, or can be convinced to be with them, if only a candidate would have the balls to stick with their convictions and not do any of that playing to the center nonsense. The only reason anyone ever loses is that they have betrayed conservative principles. If only everyone would do the exact perfect conservative thing all the time, they would win all the elections. You know the type of person I’m talking about – the type of person who is sure that if Sarah Palin had run in 2016, she would win in a landslide.

Now this has nothing to do with Trump – the man has never met a conservative principle that he would stick to under more than 30 seconds of semi-intense questioning. However, all the people who believe this way seem to have glommed on to Trump’s campaign for some reason, so here we are. They view Trump’s campaign as the test for their principle, even though it’s obviously not true. Personally, I don’t mind if they are never disabused of this notion because Trump is about to provide a valuable object lesson in the efficacy of doubling down on primary techniques generally speaking – and of being the biggest caricature of a conservative that you can manage.

My biggest disappointment this campaign season is that Trump did not pick Palin as his running mate. This would have been the ultimate testing ground for the thesis that Brawndo drinkers are the controlling force in America. More’s the pity, because it probably means we’ll have to suffer through the indignity of a Sarah Palin third party candidacy in the future.

But I tell you what, the co-founder of Breitbart News as a campaign manager is a perfectly acceptable second option. If Trump, guided by the freaking Breitbart News guy, cannot pull this off, against the most hated and incompetent candidate the Democrats have ever run, ever, then no one can. And then maybe we will be rid of this fantasy forever.

Probably not, but maybe. And “maybe” is the best hope this country has these days.
