Election Day Open Thread (Updated)

Election day is finally here!!!!  It’s likely to be a long day, so here’s an open thread to use for chit-chat while we wait for voting results to be reported.

If you’re voting today, or just out and about,  let us know what’s going on in your area.

See something suspicious at the voting site?  Share it with the rest of us.

Just for the fun of it, from the man who gave us “it depends on what the meaning of ‘is’ is”…”Who wants a president that will knowingly, repeatedly tell you something he knows is not true?”

(check out 0:45 mark)

Have a great election day, everyone.  Be safe!  Go vote!  Take others with you!!!

Update:  Twitchy has pictures of turnout at voting sites.  Looks good so far.  Looks really good for Repubs!  http://twitchy.com/2012/11/06/pics-fired-up-voters-report-long-lines-in-gop-heavy-areas/

Anyone have links to Twitter feeds providing reports?  Post ‘em below!

I live in an Ohio township. We’re outside of the nearest city suburbs and our 2 precincts vote in a small building with enough parking for about 20 cars.

Last night at a meeting (non-political) one of the guys asked what was the best time to vote today. Everyone agreed between 10am and noon for the chance to get in and out.

I had to drive by the location this morning during that time. The parking lot was full and cars were driving around trying to find somewhere to park. During the quietest time of the day.

    Hah!

  • drohan00

I live in rural Western Nebraska. Our county will go strongly for Deb Fischer in the Senate race. I hope the Republicans in Douglas, Sarpy and Lancaster Counties vote for Deb as well. So we don’t have Bob the Slob Kerrey as our Senator.

Turnout will be high here, but that’s because we have six people running for local school board.

Nebraska will redeem itself this year and give all Electoral votes to Romney. I hope we can do well in Ohio and Pennsylvania as well.

  • adamd

I live in NYC and I have seen ZERO Obama buttons on the subway. In 2008 seemed every liberal was wearing one, and there were quite a few Kerry button in 2004. I know NY has been written off since 1988, however, not seeing any enthusiasm. Lines at all the polling place I walked by this morning were short.

  • gmat

I continue to be surprised that the race is even competitive given the level of un- and underemployment, and the falling median household income.

  • LTtavernkeeper

See Moe’s front page post. EV numbers in Ohio look BAD for Obama.

  • Change Jar Conservative

By 930 AM, my precinct had already passed their 2008 total number of voters. Problem is that we’re in conservative GA so not that useful.

    • eddiethegeek

Yes it is, for it’s likely indicative of an as-yet unmeasured groundswell to oust Obama

  • Viet71

Heavy turnout at my poll in N.W. Connecticut.

Would not be amazed to see Connecticut lean red this year; much dissatisfaction here with the Dem governor and Obama.

  • Ender
    • supa

I would feel better if Dan Rather thought Obama had it in the bag.

  • westcoastpatriette

Thanks for posting this lineholder. I miss the daily briefing at the old site where we were always able to use it as an open thread and I’m sure I will be popping in and out of here all day today.

As an aside, has anyone else had the experience of writing a new diary and when you hit publish, it tells you the diary will publish at a scheduled time in the near future? The last two diaries I wrote, that happened. There didn’t seem to be any way to alter it. Both times I paid attention and they both appeared at the exact time they were scheduled for — the first one about a half hour after the time I hit publish and the second one an hour after the time that I hit publish. Does anyone know if I inadvertently caused this or if there is a way to change it? Or is this a new built in feature related to the redesign?

    • lineholder

Seems to be new feature, WCP. I suspect that after RS had that spurt of truly ridiculous diaries that were getting posted, they implemented this scheduling feature as a way to pre-screen diary content.

      • westcoastpatriette

        Okay, that makes sense.

  • PowerToThePeople

The 45 sec mark is so ironic, a proven liar who doubled down on his lies time after time calling another man a liar. I wonder when his cigar was caught in the cookie jar if he turned red and pulled it out. Oh that’s right, he invented the line “I did not have sexual relations with that woman.”

    Scumbag.

  • gawken

Just wanted to toss out an observation, see what others think:

This last week, I’ve been watching the images of the incredible crowds at Romney rallies around the country, and also how natural, and graceful, Ann Romney has been as she walks out onstage with Mitt, and then introduces him to the crowd.

OTOH, Michelle Obama has been out there on her own for the most part. Does it means that:

    1. The Dems think that she’s effective in her own right.

    2. Except for Clinton, there are almost no decent surrogates for Obama on the campaign trail. I mean, Ted Strickland, who LOST in 2010, has gotten more national TV exposure than when he was governor. This is the best they have?

    3. For whatever reason, Michelle doesn’t want to be on the stump with Barack

    4. Two or more of the above

    • lineholder

Could be any of those reasons, I guess. Michelle does have a personal vested interest in having Obama re-elected.

I’d also throw in the possibility that they both like being the center of attention and don’t necessarily like sharing the limelight of that attention. Sounds petty, I know, but it holds true to what they’ve displayed over the last four years.

      • CodeBlue

she’s taking a page from Hills and getting her face out there to run for something later….

        • lineholder

She’s already said that regardless of what the outcome might be for B Obama, she wants to run for political office…on a pro-abortion platform. That was it…just pro-abortion.

          • CodeBlue

wow. just wow. that’s a heckuva platform there Michelle, where you gonna pitch that?

          • lineholder

Yeah, I know…I was a bit stunned by that one, too.

  • Common_Cents

The Bradley effect chickens will come home to roost, but this election will be determined by another effect. The Peter Principle. Elevating an idiot to the level of his imcompetence.

  • crusty

Ok so why am I scared to death?

    • rednewjersey2012

I’m with you, sir or madam. I am scared to frickin’ death.

  • Ausonius

My wife called me and said that Turner Classic Movies showed “The Fountainhead” today: an omen of today’s results? She had never seen it before, and said: “That speech (by Gary Cooper) was great!”

    It is available on YouTube:

  • http://southpawtracks.wordpress.com/ Southpaw Tracks

I think so much is on the line here. But I also think we will win even though it will be close. I think the fact that it will be so close is a sad testament to the state of our country. I don’t know how any American could vote for Obama. One reason is because of the media. With the media in his camp, so many people have been deceived and short changed on the truth. With dead people voting, machines screwing up, and a host of other hurdles, it is not going to be easy. But I think we will win. I pray that we do.

  • recentlyenlightened

Drove by the fire station this morning around 745 and the place was packed. I live in Northern Colorado and the fire station is one of two places to vote here in town. Parking lot was full, cars parked up and down the side streets and a line out the door and around the building. Had a couple people honk and give me a thumbs up because of my giant Romney window sticker! I think Colorado goes to Romney with a comfortable margin.

  • Kyle-MI

Voted at 8:30 am today in a Detroit suburb. Took an hour to get through the line. This is the first time voting for President at this polling place, but I have never seen the line so long during any of the previous presidential votes in other places.

  • rednewjersey2012

Watching the news today is so depressing. None of the stations are saying Romney is going to win. So I turned off the TV, and I will be glued to my Mac seeing the results online. I’d rather do that than bust my television.

    • lineholder

ROFL. I know the feeling! I might turn the television on later in the day. Maybe.

      • golffan1963

The feeling is understandable. Listening to Rush Limbaugh today, he sounds less optimistic as well. I have issues with him at times, but he ended his show with an appropriate admonition:

Today is our last chance to stop Obamacare. He’s right.

    • supa

But don’t you want to watch the shock when Mitt wins in a landslide?

      • rednewjersey2012

Yes, I will, but not till I am ABSOLUTELY SURE Mitt has won. It’s so pitiful that people think Obama’s gonna win this thing.

    • fightnright

well we’ve known for a while that even if no polling results have been inaccurately weighted in order to predict an Obama win, the MSM was definitely going to try to depress election evening Republican turnout with premature announcements of a Democrat landslide. So hang in there.

But maybe enough voters have been affected by their realization that after taking some time off from his daily schedule of tossing hoops and golfing, the ~only~ really tough work that Obama has done during his entire Presidency has been during these last 3 months – for his re-election campaign.

      • lineholder

fightnright, you’re up in the NJ area, correct? How are things for folks up your way today? Getting any news?

        • rednewjersey2012

I’m from NJ. Idk, it’s a little shady. Most of my friends, 18-24, voted Obama.

          • lineholder

rednewjersey, you’re a young Repub? Stay strong!!! Haven’t seen you at RS before. Newbie? (And that isn’t meant in a derogatory way…just wondering). If so, welcome!

          • rednewjersey2012

Thanks, and I am 24 y. o., lol. Here in NJ, it’s strong anti-Obama sentiment, but not enough to topple Obozo.

          • http://travismonitor.blogspot.com Freedoms Truth

Keep the faith. you apparently have more brains than your friends, who just voted to get loaded up with more govt debt and with fewer jobs to pay for it.

        • fightnright

Getting ready now for a long night in and out of local Republican HQ’s, so were taking things slowly this a.m., just watching unprecedented crowds down the road at our polling station:

          http://www.redstate.com/2012/11/06/get-out-the-vote/#comment-701966298

Our town and surrounding area were treated with mercy during the storm; some trees down and about a third of us temporarily lost power, but most folks have juice now. We were really socked with months of restoration work necessary after Irene last year, so feeling very grateful now….

          • fightnright

kowalski – the really big political news for us here in the tri-state NY/NJ/CT area was the NY Daily News endorsement of Mitt Romney. It only could have surprised us more if the NYTimes had suddenly flipped and editorialized in Romney’s favor.

The endorsement won’t deliver NY to Mitt, but it might be a barometer recording the atmosphere of even hyper-liberal NYC’s disapproval of the Obama record.

          • lineholder

Is that a relatively recent shift in trends? Do you think the endorsement has been influenced by the way FEMA and Bloomberg have dealt with Sandy victims? Or is it likely that the endorsement would have shifted to Romney anyway for other reasons (such as economic?)

Be safe up that way, fightnright. I hear that they are calling for evacuations in NY in anticipation of N’easter headed your way.

    • http://travismonitor.blogspot.com Freedoms Truth

When Romney was leading by 5, the press treated is as 50/50, now they are saying Obama likely to win in a squeaker. My re-calibration of that is that Romney is slightly ahead…. but we really dont know until the votes are counted.

It comes down to OH, IA, NH and WI. If Romney loses VA or CO, he’s lost the election, but I am counting on him to do both.

  • golffan1963

If this election turns out in Obama’s favor, not only will it be baffling now….but for a long time to come, for America will be re-electing a man who:
    1. Is less trusted on the economy–supposedly the number one issue—than his opponent
    2. Is looked upon slightly less favorably than his opponent
    3. Passed a signature piece of legislation (Obamacare) which a majority of the population wants to repeal.
    4. Has a high disapproval rating on the main foreign policy issue today–Benghazi/Libya.

    Unthinkable.

    • supa

Don’t worry, we’ve got this. We’ve got this for all the reasons you mentioned except #4. The lamestream has done their job of not reporting the Benghazi debacle.

  • lineholder

Anyone hearing reports of touch screen malfunctions? We’ve had isolated reports today here in NC…one voter even had a voting site employee stand beside him and watch what the machine was doing to provide evidence of the fault.

  • LTtavernkeeper

My 7-year-old just got off the bus from school. He saw I was watching the news and asked me who the new president was. Told him we wouldn’t know until tonight. He asked me if I “voted for the new president, or for President Alabama?” Needed that.

  • mikeymike143

florida is definately going for romney.

  • lineholder

Nice! Click on the state within the map, and displays the results. Now, I can shut down the ten other web pages I had open!

    • tngal

Can’t trust it. Its 6:27 central time. The map shows Vermont dark blue. Check marks it with an Obama win but when you click it, it shows absolutely no vote tallies???? No numbers. Nobody voted but Obama won? The same map is on Politico, and their’s doesn’t have any numbers for VT but yet still claiming a O victory. Yeah, we know–Obama is going to win Vermont, but the point is check other sources cause something’s goofy with the map.

      • lineholder

Fairly sound projection for VT, but it won’t hurt to keep an eye on it and confirm it against other sources.

      • Kyle-MI

Probably calling it based on exit polling and past history. The map shows official results?

        • lineholder

Not sure about official results, Kyle. If you get info from outside sources that indicate totals being displayed on map are invalid, will you let the rest of us know, please? Thanks.

        • tngal

Kyle…its doing the same thing w/ West VA. The state shows up dark red, plus there is a check mark, indicating Romney gets it but no numbers to substantiate. Yes. W-VA is a red state, but I hope they are not making these “predictions” based on exit polls. And I’m not faulting RS. This same interactive map is being used at daily caller, politico and other sites. They are showing the same thing and calling the same states. Right now, not an issue because these weren’t battlegrounds, but still, if they are going to take the time to do it, might as well do it right.

  • lineholder

To any mod…is the tool you’re using for voting data display set up to refresh automatically? If so, what is the frequency?

  • commonsenseobserver

Orlando just poured in their votes. Nassau County turnout is down…

  • commonsenseobserver

And worrying signs in Chesterfield County, VA?

  • lineholder

Just started displaying NC votes. We had 2.7 million early votes here in NC.

  • exitsfunnel

Why is there no results open thread on the main page? Or am I looking right past it?

    • lineholder

I’m not really sure, exits. I had posted this one earlier today to pass the time. We can use it for the time being.

      • exitsfunnel

For sure. Wasn’t complaining about this thread! It just seemed weird that on the day of the presidential election, there wouldn’t be something on the main page.

        • Viet71

It’s one thing to go out on a limb and predict a winner.

It’s another to hold fire and wait and see.

This isn’t my space. Have no dog in this fight. Just an observer

  • kipling

I hate the day of the election. Until results start flowing in all you have are a bunch of news people sharing their ignorance with anyone who will listen.

    • lineholder

Yeah, I know. This day seemed to drag on into eternity, didn’t it?

  • CodeBlue

I’m very confused. How can the map call states or “leaning” states with 1% of polls reporting? how can it call states one way with the other guy leading?

    • lineholder

If it’s traditionally a strong blue state, then they may go with projected outcomes. Doesn’t mean that they can’t be wrong.

    • tngal

Its just one person who makes the call codeblue. I think I read where her name was “Claire Voyant” or something…. and she has been known to be a complete moron and in the enemy camp, and I might add a total fraud. There I said it.

      • CodeBlue

        Claire Voyant… nice.

  • lineholder

Ahhh, very nice. Just found the links for the House, Senate and Governor vote tallies (directly under the EV bar).

I am so hoping that they wrong in calling it for Watts in NC!!!!

    • tngal

Murdock is losing to Donnelly in Indiana w/ 27% in. We really needed him in the Senate. Ah well, longshot.

      • lineholder

tngal, if Cruz (TX) and Allen (VA) win, are both of those pick-ups for Repubs?

        • kipling

Cruz (TX) is simply a Republican hold. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, the Republican Senator, is retiring. I think Allen would be a pick-up.

        • tngal

Is this a drinking game question? geez I didn’t know there would be a test. Wait, let me find a mod. Well, we haven’t seen of those in a few hours so this may take awhile.

  • westcoastpatriette

Man, this board is slow to navigate. It was slow before but now with this map, the page goes through so many gyrations every time you refresh or click around. Frustrating.

  • golffan1963

Good note for Romney…..Lake County in Ohio is only Obama plus 3, according to Ari Fleischer, who states Obama needed a bigger margin there. He also states the exit polls are showing Ohio is going D+7, which may mean the exit polls may be garbage once again.

  • commonsenseobserver

    Evangelical turnout down dramatically?

    • golffan1963

Not sure. Ralph Reed has been talking up the Evangelical vote throughout the campaign, but don’t know if it’s happening or not.

  • lineholder

Polls for AZ, CO, NM, and WI all close at 9 p.m. ET. We should start seeing results on those soon.

  • tngal

Lineholder! You got on the Front page! Here’s you star!

  • Jack_Savage

It sickens me to say this, but I think FL is going Obama. He is ahead with only 1% of Dade County reporting.
    Sickening.

    • tngal

Broward and Miami Dade aren’t doing well either, and coupled with Dade, those are the 3 most populous counties in FL, I think.

      • treeofliberty

Absolutely shocked what I’m seeing in Florida…and NC this close?!?

        Stunning

  • golffan1963

Fox calls Pennsylvania for Obama. Takes away one path for Romney, and it makes Florida and Ohio must wins. I’m not yet convinced Florida will go Obama.

  • Kyle-MI

Well that stinks. Michigan called for Obama. I hate this state.

    • tngal

Think relocation..to beautiful, scenic, lively, aromatic, Republican Tennessee, or Alabama, Kentucky, Georgia, etc…Hey, peace of mind is a nice place to live lineholder.

  • golffan1963

Networks are projecting GOP will keep the House.

  • tngal

Virginia (battleground) looking good. 51-48 Romney on top w/49 percent reporting. ( Man, I hope real officials are handling the calculators and not replacement officials.)

    • golffan1963

Nice note of humor about replacement officials! If that holds, it comes down to Florida and Ohio.

  • golffan1963

Fox calls Wisconsin for Obama. Again, Ohio and Florida may now be the only path for Romney.

  • retrocon87

tied in florida w/ 80% reporting but the votes not in yet are all in broward and miami-dade. florida’s gone, game over.

  • Jack_Savage

I am smelling a rat in VA. Even after all this time, Norfolk, which is 114% black, has 0% reporting.

    • lineholder

Is that the county announced had people still standing in line when the polls closed, Jack? If it is, then it was announced that there could be a delay

  • golffan1963

    EV’s now at 153-153.

  • APA Guy

Donnelly just took the Indiana senate seat…wow…there goes the senate.

    • tngal

If Murdock’s gone then Akin won’t be far behind – dems made hay of abortion issues with those two.

      • Kyle-MI

Dems made hay of the rape issue. Perfect is the enemy of good. Tonight we get neither.

  • Ausonius

It is looking bad here in Ohio: Romney behind by 8% as of 9:30 P.M. Inexplicable with nearly 3/5 of the country saying we are going in “the wrong direction,” yet they vote for the man leading from behind. This election should not be close at all, but here we are…live by the vote of the common man and woman, die by it as well.

Perhaps other states will lead the way for Romney. Perhaps white guilt wants to give the Afro-American another 4 years to prove himself, and then the race issue will be dead and buried, as well as many of our freedoms.

  • generica

Sick sick feeling in my stomach right now. Romney is in need of some good news.

  • golffan1963

Romney remains in the lead in the popular vote……could we see another Electoral Vote/Popular Vote split?

  • generica

    Warren beat Brown.

  • golffan1963

Thompson loses the Senate race in Wisconsin….the Badger state has been a major disappointment tonight.

  • golffan1963

CBS projecting Brown to win Senate seat in Ohio. This can’t be good.

Oddly, Fox News is talking about the GOP GAINING seats in the House. This is the weirdest election I’ve ever seen. The American people seem to be truly schizophrenic.

  • Jack_Savage

Virginia and NC are going Romney, but Ohio and Florida are going Obama. Looks like four more years. Get prepared. It’s not going to be pretty, in any way, shape or form.

I love all you guys. Good night.

    • generica

      night Jack.

    • timhawke

I sincerely hope you’re right about VA. BHO is ahead there now…

  • Ender

    We tried…

  • generica

We’ll know for sure in a few minutes

  • retrocon87

i guess God intended Mourdock to throw away Indiana

    • crimsonchampion

I’ll admit that you’re witty, but let’s abstain from deadpan humor for now.

      • retrocon87

i’m not gonna lie– i’m pissed… this was not just “an ill-timed hurricane and not throwing enough red meat out about libya”… something went fundamentally wrong

        • golffan1963

You’re right. This should have been a no-brainer win for the GOP, although I do think that the nation is unaware of the economic peril we are in, and my fear is that with this result the nation will now have to learn the hard way that government entitlements one way or another will force an economic collapse. The American people are incapable at this time of making hard choices, and if that’s the case, then simple mathematics will do the work for them….likely in the form of another deep recession.

As I stated earlier today. We have had our chance to change course, and now the nation will learn the hard way.

          • srobins6

            OOOOH this one was good.

    • Kyle-MI

I am very ticked off at the demagoguery. No one is proposing legislation to force pregnant rape victims to carry the child. We can’t even overturn Roe V. Wade and yet rape is a driving issue?

      • retrocon87

it’s an issue when the candidate can’t figure out how to articulate the pro-life position in a way that doesn’t creep the hell out of every woman in the country

        • Kyle-MI

So we choose politics and demagoguery over sanity?

          • retrocon87

yes, and it’s not new… if you have terrible politicians, you lose.

          • APA Guy

Kyle, I’m an Indiana Hoosier. Mourdock lost this senate seat by doing what too many Tea Party candidates continue to do…by putting his foot in his mouth for the world to see. He gave away this seat…pure and simple.

  • deltawing

Where are all the geniuses who predicted a “landslide”? Wishful thinking is no substitute for facts and logic.

  • Ender

This night is as good as the RS coverage… Horrible – can’t even discuss results in real time with anyone. Not that there is anything good to discuss. Sorry Romney, you almost had it. Congrats Obama.

  • golffan1963

Fox projects Ohio for Obama. Ballgame.

  • Ender

    CBS projects Obama reelected.

    • Ender

      And so does Fox News.

  • http://lukos.com Ed54

We got beat on turnout and the ground game. Simple as that.

    • treeofliberty

Which is pretty incredible if the widespread reports of Republican enthusiasm and GOTV reaching levels not seen in at least a decade are accurate…perhaps it goes to show we cannot lose 70%+ of the minority vote anymore.

Gender gap apparently was visible too: men voted Romney, women, inexplicably supported Obama

  • golffan1963

On a side note, how does Dick Morris remain employed? His political prognostication abilities are terrible.

    • srobins6

Oh cmon dude we have been telling you that for yeeears.

You literally could have asked any liberal to point this out to you. He wrote a book calling 2008 for condi.

      A book. For Condi. CMOOOON.

  • commonsenseobserver

Okay, who’s up for volunteering for Paul Ryan’s 2016 Presidential Campaign?

    • Dave_A

      No Ryan in 2016.

He’s damaged goods now, and the last thing we need is another technical-expert who can’t manage the political slug-fest….

We need a flag-officer. Preferably Marine or Army Infantry.

      • commonsenseobserver

        Ridiculous.

        • Dave_A

          Really?

The GOP’s biggest problem is we have NO effective leadership. We are a party of do-it-my-way individuals, and neither our presidential nominees nor our actual party-leadership can get everyone marching to the same drum…

One of the reasons the other side can win outside their ideological base, is that they actually function as a cohesive unit. They pick a strategy, get every last one on board, and they all execute. It works.

To contrast, we seem to just let our candidates loose on their own, hoping that enough money & the right-ness of our cause will somehow make up for a completely disjointed party apparatus & total lack of a unified plan….

  • golffan1963

Fox News is now talking about Romney disputing network projections for Ohio. In addition, Romney STILL leads in popular vote.

Hate to pour water on you, but the popular vote will change when CA fully reports.

      • treeofliberty

who cares? only matters OH at this point..has to turn around

    • Ender

He won’t be leading once the western states come in…

  • commonsenseobserver

Unless we are hoping for the networks to be awfully won (I’m looking at you, Wisconsin), Barack Obama has been re-elected.

    • APA Guy

Sad day for America, but we CHOSE THIS not once but twice. America will get exactly what she deserves, courtesy of We the People.

  • APA Guy

Many in the party will be playing the blame game. I am not a Republican, but rather a conservative…so I will not blame. I will leave the country with this:

America, you decided tonight what sort of country you want to live in. You voted for $22 trillion in debt by the end of Obama’s second term. You voted for endless high gas prices. You voted for increasing electricity prices due to Obama’s war on coal. You voted for the death of the Keystone Pipeline and energy independence. You voted for higher taxes…for permanent Obamacare.

You have nothing to complain about when this country turns into something you no longer recognize…NOTHING. Enjoy the “free” goodies Obama has promised you. When the country runs out of taxes for the rich, your potential for wealth and prosperity will be next on the chopping block as people who refuse to work insist upon taking the fruit of your labor. It’s a sad day for America.

    • golffan1963

Extremely well put. I’d hate to be repetitive, but it seems we will have to learn the hard way.

    • 10ab

I don’t mind laying some blame….major drag on party…Trump, Akin, Mourdock, birther nuts, reproductive rights nuts. It should have been about the economy period!

      • Bill S

News flash: The exit polling indicates that, of those who considered the economy the biggest issue, it was a tie between Romney and Obama.

There is no single issue here. Knock off the stupid finger pointing. The fact is that a majority of Americans in pockets of this country apparently like a social democracy. John Edwards is right – there are Two Americas. The Blue one is bigger than the Red.

        • commonsenseobserver

The exit polling is garbage then, or else the electorate is garbage (or rather, has garbage beliefs)

Not talking about social issues, but if voters are tied between R and O on the economy, this nation is well and truly down the hole.

          • Bill S

            That it is.

        • APA Guy

Of course. Seniors say “Hands off my SS and Medicare”. Young people say “Hands off my financial aid”. Politicians buy votes, and the public is too stupid and selfish to care what is happening to the country. Welcome to Europe 2.0.

          • Kyle-MI

Welcome to the United States of Greece.

          • Bill S

The Democrats have bought 47% of the country. Romney was right. They’re addicted to Democrat freebies. Recapturing that portion of the country will be extraordinarily difficult.

          • APA Guy

Bill, it will take a complete economic collapse subsequent to the destruction of the dollar and sky-high inflation to wake up the idiots in this country. We are about to find out what the term “unsustainable debt” means for a country that is blind and deaf to the concept of living within your means.

          • Kyle-MI

Even that won’t work. It has not worked in Greece, Spain or any other country that has run this course. It did not even work in the US during the Great Depression. It took a world war to get us out of that, and even then we are still left with the negative legacy of Social Security and the false history of the make work programs. We are doomed.

          • Dave_A

No country has ever spent itself to hyperinflation.

  • commonsenseobserver

Wait, Mitt has not conceded yet…

    • jimmyg

Rove is trying to explain why Ohio should not have been called for Obama. He will have bigger problems explaining to his donors why he could not have pulled this out with the hundreds of millions they gave him.

    • retrocon87

maybe the election results are oversampling Dems… it’s gotta be rigged– the enthusiasm’s all on our side.

  • Kyle-MI

Well it looks like two more years without a federal budget, although I suppose the morons in the GOP will not start to kiss up to the Dems.

  • golffan1963

CBS has projected Colorado for Obama, so even an Ohio miracle will not get it done. If Romney gets Florida and Virginia, it looks like the final total may be Obama 290 Romney 248.

    • Kyle-MI

Even VA and FL are toast for us.

  • Dave_A

BTW, thanks to all the idiot Libertarians who voted for Gary Johnson (the ‘Other’ vote that in most cases was greater than the margin Romney lost key swing-states by).

Enjoy 4 more years of the most anti-Liberty president since FDR…

And no, ‘rolling papers’ campaign stunts or no, he’s NOT going to let you have your weed!

P.S. It should also be noted that Romney was NOT a social-conservative. So the notion that we ‘lost’ the LPers by catering to the religious right ignores that Romney was a moderate-Mormon & didn’t.
