Martial law is a conspiracy-theory bug-a-boo… Something to banter about & scare people with, not a reasonable possibility…

Most states can declare a state of emergency & deploy their National Guard units to quash a riot… And today’s Guard is built as a combat force – the Army Reserve has all the ‘nice’ MOSes, the Guard has the combat-arms ones…

That said, based on ‘May Day’ disturbances elsewhere in the 1st world, it will probably be weak enough that most major metropolitan police departments can handle the problem…

If not… Well… If those Occupy commies cause enough trouble that we’ve got to leave our comfortable non-military jobs, go put on body armor (Hey, I wore that stuff all year last year in AFG… ) & pull riot duty… Not good for them…

That said, Seattle will probably just let them burn stuff until they get bored, just like the 90s….

I kind of prefer MacArthur’s solution – send in the Cavalry… Literally…

I don’t think the martial law thing will fly though, Obama isn’t exactly popular with the US Military, and I don’t think many states will stand for such a blatent power grab, nor do I think Congress would either.

I think Boehner could scrounge enough support to begin articles of impeachment at that point, and probably get it through the senate too.
