NRSC Pitch Misleading

Less than an hour ago, I received a call from our National Republican Senatorial Committee requesting a pledge.  I quickly informed the initially considerate solicitor that I don’t respond to telephone solicitations, period.  In return, I was quickly informed that the NRSC telephone lines are “secure” and I need not worry.  There was an apparent disconnect and I, again, informed them that I would not respond to a telephone solicitation and would be pleased to review any written material that they would forward to me.  I was then told that they don’t have any written material and . . . would I consider a pledge now and then decide whether I wanted to contribute more or less when I received the pledge card in the mail?  I told her that I don’t make pledges and then break them.

This wasn’t good enough.  “Don’t you know that Senator John Cornyn is going throughout the country recruiting the most conservative candidates state by state to run in November, 2010?”

Seizing the moment, I said “If that were true, then the NRSC would be supporting Rubio in Florida and you’re not.”  There was no response.  I continued, “And this is where our telephone call is coming to an end.  Goodnight.”

Senator Cornyn, you want my money to support conservatism?  Then live up to your sales pitch, Senator – start supporting conservatives, first, without my money . . . and then make your “ask.”

?If that were true, then the NRSC would be supporting Rubio in Florida and you?re not.?

If I support Crist will I face all your anger? lol

I just think Crist can win easily and save us money for other states. I am more concerned about us holding Gov Mansion; McCollum scares me

    • redtillimdead

I am probably like the only person one here not taking a stance in this primary. I previously supported Crist, then Rubio, then decided to support neither and wait for the end of the primary. But I agree, McCollum’s chances do worry me. I wish Rubio would have run for Gov

      • Rod_Patrick

Rubio would be a good Governor based on what RS has presented.

To bad we can’t always get what we want.

Crist as a US Senator can do immense damage to me as a citizen…and to the Republican Brand

We simply can not afford the pro abortion, pro gay marriage, pro big spending, stimulus loving, Bail out supporting radical environmentalist embracing Crist in the US Senate!

          PERIOD!!!

          • Rod_Patrick

I agree, bro. We have had enough of RINOs. .

But for the record, I didn’t mention that Crist should have been a “US senator.” he he!

I think retirement is the best option for Crist at this point of his career. No one needs him anyway, except for his own mob of sycophants.

            Cheers.

Crist beats Meek by 19 points while Rubio beats him by 13 (though neither Rubio or Meek have good name recognition at this point).

You have to remember, the Dem’s primary is between a third-tier candidate (Meek) and a fourth-tier (Brown), so there’s not really a likely chance for this seat to flip, no matter who the Republican nominee is.

Also telling in that poll however, is that 52% of likely Florida voters strongly oppose Obama’s health plan, which makes it very hard for a Democrat running there to win.

      • proudgop

I don’t think that serious of Dem has entered because they are scared of Crist and assume he is going to win easily

I also think its smart on part of Dems to have African American US Senate candidate cause it will help them in Gov Race

because he is Barack Obama’s favorite “Republican” and his only hope at building his “majority”. Add Crist to Snowe, Collins and you now have again a troika, one of which does not hail from Maine. He hopes this will bring legitimacy to his votes when these three always side with him as he spends us into oblivion and imposes total control on our lives.

Charlie Crist is Arnold Schwarzenegger without the accent. He is a opportunistic politician latched on to all the “most fashionable” causes of the day. A true Man Made Global Warming nutjob. He is dead to me, and most of the members of My REC.

Marco Rubio is Barack Obama’s biggest nightmare. Charlie Crist will not only get the resources of the NSRC, he will also have the vast resources of the Soros/Obama machine propping him up in the primary. Unfortunately, he also has John Cornyn working with Soros/Obama. WTF has the GOP come too?

          • AceInTX

This just infuriates me…especially since the polls show Rubio beating any Democrat running…why do we need Crist?

        • scarlos

Most Dems switched to the Governor race once Crist announced for the Senate.

Though for the latter, it fits nicely into the long-standing pattern for Democrats of only running blacks in non-competitive races. IIRC, the only black to run in a competitive state-wide race in the last decade was the 2006 Senate race, where Conservative Democrat (at least socially) Harold Ford Jr. almost beat Bob Corker.

Other than that, they’ve generally only run blacks when the Democratic party has given up on the seat or office.

    • AceInTX

no matter what the candidate stands for…The NRSC openly says they are backing Crist because he has money and they won’t have to spend funds to get him elected…

In other words…unless you have a personal fortune and unless you’ve ammassed a huge campaign war chest…don’tr bother running for the Senate because the Party won’t support you no matter how right you are on the issues and no matter how wrong your opponent is.

Move over grass roots…sit down…shut up…and vote for who WE tell you to…

Crist ius Obama…Obama is Crist….period…why would we support him…and if he’s the nominee…the base should write in Mickey Mouse!

      • proudgop

Listen, if the NRSC can use that money in expensive Florida to win in states like NV, CO, and AR then I tend to see it as a plus. JMO

Crist has been more moderate then I like but I wouldn’t call him a liberal per say.

        • AceInTX

Pat Buchanan used to crack me up when he called the US Senate the “House of Lords” referencing the British system with the House of Commons representing the people and the House of Lords representing the Aristocracy.

That’s what we have today…and it’s wrong…Money shouldn’t determin who represents us and our interests in the Senate…the person elected should represent the issues and interests of the people who elect them. Florida is a red state and deserve a conservative US Senator. Crist is no conservative…in fact…he’s not even a “moderate” as you classify him…he’s a LIBERAL and has business getting support from the national Party apparatus!

I don’t know about you but if being pro-choice, pro-crap & tax, pro-TARP, pro-stimulus and Bambi’s drooling lap dog doesn’t make you a liberal, then we must have radically different definitions of what it means to be a socialist, nanny-state liberal.

          Moderate? Puhleeeze!

  • ktsub

Rubio in the top spot as Governor would be awsome. He needs to be front and line in Florida, not inside the beltway.

  • proudgop

serious with McCollum what are they thinking?

FL is going to gain 2 house seats we need to control the redistricting

Jeb Bush should be running again actually

    • scarlos

and Florida’s gain is probably going to only be one, as those predictions were made before the foreclosure crisis, which has forced many people out of the state (first time the population has dropped over a 1-year period since the end of WWII)

and it shouldn’t really matter, as Republican control of the legislature is only a handful of seats away from veto-proof anyway (65 or 64%)

On top of all that, i think Jeb’s eying Bill Nelson’s seat in 2012.
