Last week it was stated that Obama wouldmost likely nominate someone Tuesday. With respect to North Korea, we’ve been through this game before. Obama’s reaction is not nearly as damning poltically as nominating a radical to the Court. Pyongyang throws these hissy fits. I dont think this is a 3: A.M. moment. Its another show trial on there part. Russia and China have more to fear than us. The Asian powers will and should take the lead. dont underestimate Sotomayor. She is a disaster. A forty year disaster.

What’s that? Cheney has a speech prepared discussing Obama’s reckless foreign policy? Schedule a speech that morning on the same topic, right before the former VP gives his. North Korea firing off nukes? Roll out that Supreme Court nominee to give them something else to talk about.

the fact is that we all knew this back in November of last year. The Big 0 always said he wanted a more “international” approach. Our foreign policy was always going to be farmed out to the UN except in those cases where The Big 0 needs to do something to keep himself in office. North Korea and Iran are both likely to have working nuclear weapons that fit atop ICBMs before The Big 0 leaves office, and they both have certifiable nutjobs running their countries.
But there’s not thing one we can do about it. Consequences of the election ya know. And the idiots who didn’t listen to us won’t realize it until a couple million people get really hot for a few seconds before starting the long cool down to room temperature.

Every single important policy ,appointment and world headliner has been met with an alternative story,by chance or by design. It’s clear that Obama is keeping the American people’s heads on a pivot. He has gotten his way with this tactic and it’s not going to get better in the 3 1/2 years.

And Sotomayor makes me sick as a woman who had the opportunity to achieve more in her struggle for the advancement of women instead she shows her true colors on the very first day. Slamming any and all men who may have the opportunity to have served or may serve on the Supremes is so over the top and she’ll get away with it. Cause men dare not speak out,except Rush so far.

Justice Cardozo was, of course, descended from Portuguese Jews. Because Portugal is part of the Iberian Peninsula and of ancient Hispania, I had always assumed that the European Porrtuguese could be fairly called “Hispanic.” I note that Wikipedia, for whatever it is worth, indicates that the U.S. Census Bureau does not consider European Portuguese to be “Hispanic” (there is no link to any other source that would confirm that).

As the term is somewhat amorphous and its meaning has changed somewhat through the centuries, it is probably somewhat of a tom-ay-to/tom-ah-to thing, but I have always understood that Justice Cardozo already held the distinction of being the first Hispanic Justice on the Supreme Court.

first Hispanic to SCOTUS?

Lest our friends forget (like Tony who gave us “But He’s Black” admission from his Mother – well, I think you should read it) the first Hispanic to the SCOTUS would have been Alberto Gonzalez, should the Democrats cared at all about the Presidential prerogative to nominate/seat SCOTUS Justices of their choosing and turn advise/consent roles into Political witch hunts and Theatrical grandstanding boondoggles…. So when the inevitable cries come up “But She’s Hispanic” let us remind them that RACE was supposedly not a matter with Alberto Gonzalez, but his potential – say “Life” and other issues they refuse to let the Court be reversed from their PROGRESSIVE (read: March away from Constitutionality) agenda. That if/when/where it cannot be achieved from Legislative means stacked Activist Liberal Judges must be assured control/sway. Republicans FAIL to take the appropriate stands/fights and we get to these points…. Where again an Ultra-Liberal Lefty President will be picking a Candidate on the terms of Identity Politics and Obama’s admitted desire for someone who will (IGNORE THE CONSTITUTION AND THE LAW, while he doesn’t say it that plain it is what he means in that he wants someone who will) toss EQUAL JUSTICE notions for SCOTUS Empathy and Redistributive Justice (see Obama admit it himself on video)….

So, again, it won’t be about “Hispanics:” on Republicans part anyway but will be blatant pandering for re-election votes by/for Obama, though some people will of course resort [Janine Gagalow for one] to their first defense which is accusations without basis of RACISM, when Republicans challenge the probable pick – potentially Sonia Sotomayor for only one. It will be about the usual Ultra-Liberal ACTIVISM they’ve engaged in rather than pursuit of EQUAL JUSTICE! Remember, it wasn’t about Gonzalez’s background other than what would have been his desire to adhere to Rule Of Law – and with Obama’s picks it will be about their Activism to Legislate from the Bench rather than uphold Law.

I’m all for ‘engagement’… with missiles. Since Seoul is only 38 miles from the 38th (well within range of rocket-assisted artillery) we won’t be taking stern measures against N Korea until Seoul evacuates and/or is willing to give up some (quite a few, actually) civilian lives.

THIS is your 3am phone call? REALLY? How long has NK been testing their nuclear and/or missle capabilities? I know they had the freakin’ laughable missle test at the beginning of the year but I think their last nuclear test was in 2003. Could someone link me the post saying GWBush is being pushed around cos hes a big puss? I’ll be waiting with baited breath.
The truth is, we can’t do anything, nor should we until NK makes the first move. We can’t put troops in harms way because unlike Iraq, we know they have WMD’s FOR REALSIES THIS TIME! Secondly, their delivery capability is like 50 miles from their laughable test a few months ago as I mentioned. We need to pressure Russia and China to put them in the vice, but to advocate any military action now or to use this as an excuse for Obama’s weakness is willfully ignorant of the last 15 years. When Iran and/or NKorea launched the first test ICBM (and don’t BS yourself, these are NOT telcomm satelites) there should have been a sub or surface ship nearby to use them for skeet practice. The internal domestic loss of prestige would have quickly replaced either of both of these tin-plate dog-eating despots, and signalled to the world that at least SOMEONE wouldn’t be willing to eat a nuke and say, “Thank you sir, may I have another.”

Alternatively we could send Secretary “Attack Dog” Clinton over there to talk to them.
