The Sunday Morning Talk Shows: preview

ImageFor Sunday, October 5, 2008

FOX News Sunday (FNS): Host Chris Wallace will interview Senator Joe Liebermann and Claire McCaskill. Then he talks to Karl Rove.

This Week (ABC): Host George Stephanopoulos talks to Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell (D), Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty (R), Florida Senator Mel Martinez (R), and Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown (D).

Meet the Press (NBC): There will be something involving NBC News’ Chuck Todd, GOP strategist Mike Murphy, former Clinton (Bill) guy Paul Begala, NBC News’ David Gregory, Gwen Ifill, Peggy Noonan, and David Yepsen of Iowa’s Des Moines Register. We’ll let them sort it out.

Face the Nation (CBS): Host Bob Schieffer has two lady Dems – California Senator Dianne Feinstein and Michigan Governor Jen Granholm.— plus Representatives Heather Wilson and Roy Blunt.

Late Edition (CNN): Host Wolf Blitzer talks to McCain economic adviser Nancy Pfotenhauer, Rahm Emanuel and Marsha Blackburn, Mike Bloomberg, and scads of others.

OF NOTE: For what are they grooming McCaskill, and why?

The TW guests are all about “Battleground States.” No one from Michigan… yet.

MTP will be a mess, but note that Obama hagiographer Gwen Ifill will be on to offer her opinions, which we already know, and… David Yepsen! He’s the Iowa political columnist whom the national media wheels out every for years at the start of the primary season, so this is probably a personal record for late date on the national scene for him, Is Iowa officially a “Battleground State”?

I’m impress that Schieffer is going to have a guest who was actually a principle player in the work on the bailout bill: GOP House whip Roy Blunt. On the other side, Democrat Governor Jen Granholm is columnist George Will’s favorite political gal. Before tossing his bromides at Sarah Palin, George Will was best known for suggesting that we amend our Constitution to allow the Canadian-born Granholm to be elected President.

Perhaps Congresswoman Blackburn can make Rahm Emanuel easier to take.

What the hell is wrong with Schmidt and Co.?

    • Mark_Kilmer

Well, Schmidt wants the campaign to succeed, and Palin might again be a trump card of sorts. Her track record so far this campaign in gotcha interviews has not been a good one. If I were Schmidt, I’d give her a week of one-on-one interviews with half-decent reporters: Shep Smith, Jake Tapper, even John King. Maybe Terry Moran. After she’s built a track record, I’d have her sit town with Chuck Todd on MTP. And Bob Schieffer on FTN. Chris Wallace on FNS. You don’t want her with such gotcha guys as Dave Gregory and George Stephanopoulos. And Brokaw, I think, is just clueless at this point.

I get the same feeling regarding Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Shep Smith is one of the worst ones out there.

If I could get one guy off FNC, Shep Smith is so far up the top of my list, I’m not even sure there’s a 2nd!

Chuck Todd has declared the election already over, no point in voting now. I’m not sure he would be a good choice either.

They already have the ‘Dewey Wins!” headline printed and delivered.
