There are several schools of thought on Chris Matthews’s mind, and given what we’ve seen of this mind, it’s reasonable to conclude that these schools of thought are public schools of the worst quality. To match the man.
Chris Matthews’s brother Jim is boss of Pennsylvania’s Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. (He was also on the Lynn Swann ticket a few years ago when Governor Rendell was reelected.) Jim proclaimed that his brother Chris loves it at MSNBC, loves his job duties, is negotiating a new contract, and thus would forgo a run for the 2010 Dem nomination to challenge Specter, Pat Toomey, or whoever wins the Republican nomination for the seat currently held by Specter.
However, Salena Zito spoke to Allegheny Count Dem chair Jim Burn who said that he spoke to Matthews and the host indicated that he’s still mulling his options. Then again, Matthews told MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough, who does a morning show, that his job as a member of the media is to ensure that a President Obama is succefful in his endeavors. Could Matthews best do this as a little-watched lefty pundit or as the potential 60th Dem vote in the U.S. Senate?
Could Matthews, with the right handlers, beat Specter in Pennsylvania if he tried?
We will all be ready to steer our efforts and money wher they are needed in 2010.

Specter needs to be beat in the Primary or retire. Perhaps Lynn Swann or some other conservative to run for the Sentate seat.

His followers in the Commonwealth regard him in a smilar manner to how the Reagan supporters after ‘76 regarded the future President, and that’s a powerful thing. Pat Toomey is a conservative to capture the hearts of the grassroots conservative warriors, and he would be most likely to challenge Specter.
Why not Swann? Gauging Lynn, for whom I blogged for RS in ‘06, I imagine he’d have to be asked to run by the GOP. The Senate GOP does not primary its own members, and our State GOP wouldn’t get involved either. We’d have to have an grassroots movement to draft him, and that would be difficult against the opposition of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, which hates Swann

Philadelphia and its sphere of influence, as well as Pittsburgh, are solidly Dem. The rest of us vote, make ourselves heard, but we’re swallowed by the behemonth as far as statewide elections. What helps Arlen is that he is pro-abort and holds several center-left positions. However, he barely defeated Toomey the ‘04 primary, and I think the inspiring Pat Toomey could have beaten Democrat Joe Hoeffel that November.
And Obama won’t be on the ticket. Hopefully, Alaska Governor Palin, who drew great crows here, will campaign for the Republican. McCain would have won Pennsylvania had any Dem but Obama or Hillary been at the top of the ticket, and had the McCain peeps run a smart campaign in-commonwealth.

The mismanaged State under Governor Granholm and fools like Stabenow (as opposed to stab-ya-later lol) has MI run into the ground above/beyond natural business cycles and many “thoughtful” folk have left the State leaving behind more-and-more of the HANDOUT crowd behind making it even more run-down…. Most of the Conservative vote of Michigan is over-ridden by Wayne County (Detroit, plus some other cities Saginaw, Flint, Lansing) and Detroit politics have infested/infected Oakland and Macomb counties too….

Women HATE Chris Matthews because of how disrespectful he was to both Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin. In fact, some of the PUMAs have said that they will go to PA to campaign for Spector if Matthews is the Democratic candidate, Women are a large voting block to P**s off, and it’s really hard to win without them.
