Sarah Palin should have her own cameraman recording the interviews with Charlie Gibson as a safeguard against creative editing.

Just because Michael Jackson did it first doesn't make it a bad idea ...

I think Palin would do well to have her own cameraman openly recording in the room with Charlie Gibson’s crew during the remaining interviews. From what I’m seeing, there’s a lot of stuff on the cutting room floor that probably shouldn’t be there … including Gibson’s condescending attitude.

Gibson would be spooked … and that’s a good thing. Because he’ll know that whatever he cuts will definitely finds it way to YouTube.

When British reporter Martin Bashir (strangely enough, now of ABC just like Charlie Gibson) went to interview Michael Jackson in 2003, Jacko apparently had an inkling that Bashir had already decided on the story he wanted to tell … and he was perfectly willing to edit and cut the interview till it matched.

So Michael – uncharacteristically – did something smart.

Regarding his 2003 dialogue with Michael Jackson, titled Living with Michael Jackson critics contend the documentary was yellow journalism, claiming Bashir edited the tapes in a sensational manner that only presented Jackson in an unflattering light. After seeing the edited version of the interview, Jackson released a rebuttal interview, filmed by his personal cameraman.

Granted, it didn’t make Michael look much better, but it sure as heck made Bashir look like a sleazebag.

the cuts were obvious…and the parts they showed were made up of one gotcha question after another…

I’m wondering why ABS news and Charlie Gibson was selected for this interview…but if the rest of this will be what I saw tonight…Sarah just got bushwhacked…I just hope the public are going to see it for what it is!

I would recommend that every GOP candidate ought to at least bring a court reported with them during any interaction with the press.

I think the effect of a “friendly” camera on the resultant story would be transforming.

    Send the Redstate Film crew

In fact, the obvious sharp cuts of the tape creativity is hurting the msm and dems. Palin did fine.

    But yes, she should have.

Maybe she did? I don’t know.

    Howdy:

Technology what it is, this shouldn’t be a problem whatsoever.

If the interviewer, editors, media bosses and political hacks don’t like it, then it’s kind of simple: Don’t do the interview. It’s a good bet that you’re probably gonna see some horrendous out-of-context edits and maybe even altered visuals in order for the media outlet(s) to hit their agenda.

I’d consider taking it a step further too. Self-recording everything … all contacts with press, public, etc.

One person with a camera, real proficiency using editing software and you’ve got a potential problem. Raw video/audio can put a stop to any madness.

    Cheers!

needs to accompany freedom of speech.

I could not believe all the choppy edits. That’s the first thought I had, “what the heck ended up on the cutting room floor?”

I probably ought to be laughing at Gibson’s attempt to get over on Palin.

These on-air dweebs will make themselves look (even more) ridiculous, trying to make Sarah appear weak.

    Not. going. to. happen.

I thought the same thing after watching the first airing during World News. Wow- a lot of us have had the same thought! I was thinking maybe I am naive to think such a thing. Afterall, why isn’t it ever done? Conservatives and Republicans could have benefited from this countless times in recent years, particularly with the more recent advent of low cost digital recording equipment. So my question remains- why is this not done?

I would love to know how the conversation would go down.

Palin rep: “We’re going to do our own video”

    ABC News: “Uhhh… you’re what?”

Palin rep: “Don’t worry, we won’t be in the way. We’ll be mostly out of sight, not a distraction. Just using our handy, sub-$1000 digital camcorder.”

ABC News: “I’m sorry, but we can’t allow that.”

The GOP should create a video unit to cover each and every interview and press conference — any encounter with the press. The video crew should be very high profile and obvious the the MSM that they are there and recording everything. It should announce going into the event that a complete, unedited record is being made in the interest of a fair and honest record.

And this year it is even more important because it is obvious that the media are doing everything they can to push Obama over the line. They will do everything in their power to distort and disemble statements of McCain and Palin.

With YouTube, LiveLeak and others, the MSM’s days of limited accountability would be over.

    Quis custodiet ipsos custodes …

If she does a live press conference and answers questions from reporters, she won’t have to worry about anyone’s creative editing.

  • repub78465

That is the answer. No matter who she does an interview with, they are going to edit the coverage. Doing a live press conference would eliminate the possibility of her being edited unfairly. Honestly, I don’t understand why McCain’s people haven’t already had one. She’s got nothing to hide. Let her talk.

  • itrytobenice

When BO went on O’Reilly, he did it with the condition that the interview play unedited. O’Reilly, of course, agreed.

I thought at first that Maverick/Saracuda was foolish for not doing the same thing, but now I agree with you.

I wouldn’t even trust them to honor an agreement to play the interview in its entirety.

Any way you spin it Gibson is a Hack

Show me 1, just 1 interview with him acting like that towards a Dem politician..

JUST 1 and I’ll shut up

  • raider

I wish, however, that she would not do an interview with Katie Couric. I would rather she not do any interviews with ABC, CBS or NBC. I believe that Sarah will get the same kind of creative editing from CBS that she got from ABC.

I believe she should spend a lot of time doing conservative talk radio, both on nationally syndicated shows and local shows.

Didn’t Katie Couric walk off NBC’s 2000 election set when Bush appeared to have won the election?

  • Whitehorse

“Creative” editing is done with press conferences also.

The power of the new media can really be used in these situations.
