Err … Does Newswe[a]k Actually Think This Will *Hurt* Palin? (UPDATED)
By: Martin Knight (Diary) | October 8th at 06:48 PM |
Heh … If the McCain/Palin campaign is smart (still an open question as far as I’m concerned), Sarah Palin should be having a lot of fun with this over the following weeks – that is, if Newsweak doesn’t pull a switch (which is why I urge everyone to save themselves a copy). Please do take a look at Newsweak’s magazine’s October 13th edition’s cover. (H/T | Read More »
Focusing so much on Obama and Ayers instead of Obama and Fannie Mae CEOs Johnson/Raines is a big mistake.
By: Martin Knight (Diary) | October 8th at 04:50 AM |
The McCain Campaign and the GOP should be pounding Obama on both associations, but considering the economic turmoil is what is at the top of the headlines, Obama’s connections with Fannie Mae CEOs Johnson and Raines should be receiving a hell of a lot more attention. What’s more, the Ayers issue does nothing for the races down the ballot. The Democrats own this crisis – | Read More »

“.. b .. b .. but … but … but Rick Davis …!”
By: Martin Knight (Diary) | October 6th at 06:55 PM |
Rick Davis was indeed a hired lobbyist for Fannie Mae – his job was to speak up on their behalf in DC, the way a lawyer speaks for a client in court. Meaning that he had nothing to do with Fannie Mae’s shady business practices, questionable accounting and their knowingly underwriting a massive amount of bad loans. And even then, John McCain still put forward | Read More »
On “The only poll that counts is on Election Day” and other Self-Deceptions
By: Martin Knight (Diary) | October 6th at 05:56 PM |
Apropos of nothing, I’m going to quote something Ace wrote a while back on polls. Anyone who’s familiar with my RS history would know that I’m not writing this to be discouraging, but instead to avoid us repeating the mistake we made in 2006. Simple; we cannot afford to continue ignoring/dismissing polls with results we don’t like with the same set of excuses. Polls as | Read More »
McCain Now Has To Follow Through …
By: Martin Knight (Diary) | October 6th at 05:15 PM |
So McCain has finally(!) seen the light on letting Obama and the Democrats off the hook for their enabling of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. I sincerely hope he fired whoever it was that told him it was a good idea to cower behind “Bipartisanship” and hope the issue goes away (sure does sound familiar, don’t it?). The only issue now is whether he would | Read More »
Sending Sen. McCain A Message: “Take The %@$#! Gloves Off!”
By: Martin Knight (Diary) | October 6th at 06:06 AM |
In all likelihood, John McCain, after listening to the so-called “advice” of the coterie of failures and incompetents that so spectacularly failed George W. Bush, is going to, once again, blame “Wall Street greed” in the abstract for the sub-prime mess when asked, and if he makes any mention of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, he would only do so in passing and nod in | Read More »

TO: Steve Schmidt, Rick Davis
By: Martin Knight (Diary) | October 4th at 07:48 AM |
Sir(s), I, one of your campaign’s supporters, need some answers from your principal candidate – John McCain. Is he in this to win, or is he more interested in being friends with the opposition? Does he want to be president or is he harboring a secret desperate longing to go back to being one of a hundred? Personally, I’m beginning to get the impression that | Read More »
BREAKING NEWS: John McCain Just Threw In The Towel.
By: Martin Knight (Diary) | October 3rd at 08:28 PM |
McCain campaign officials have apparently informed James Pethokoukis that John McCain, most likely after taking the advice of some of the many former Bush aides that have somehow managed to get themselves hired by his campaign, has decided to adopt the “New Tone” and go easy on the Democrats and the huge role they played in creating the financial crisis together with Fannie, Freddie and | Read More »
Palin’s Performance: Exceeded Expectations (By Quite A Bit) … But She Didn’t “Win”
By: Martin Knight (Diary) | October 2nd at 10:42 PM |
I’m a tough grader. Palin did not win. But she certainly did not lose. I’ll be honest; I don’t believe Palin “mopped the floor” with Biden (who I actually think came off rather well) at all. What I do think is that she did good given that she was not as regularly opportuned with the last word as her opponent was. And personally I would | Read More »
Er … Senator McCain? This is no time to be “Bipartisan” …
By: Martin Knight (Diary) | October 2nd at 05:32 PM |
Jim Geraghty highlights one of the reasons why John McCain is fading in the Eleventh Hour. Somehow, he’s managed to convince himself (I’m guessing must be all those Maverick references in his speeches) that the best way forward is to start sounding “Bipartisan” notes. You Know, Senator McCain, One Month Before Election Day Might Be a Time To Be Partisan … it is worth noting | Read More »
Scorched Earth partisanship is the best way to pass the Bailout Bill
By: Martin Knight (Diary) | September 30th at 04:25 PM |
We have Democrats on record defending Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, some are even on YouTube. We have facts and figures on our side while the worst the Left can level is that Rick Davis’ firm had Fannie Mae for a client when he was no longer there. We have news articles dating from as far back as 1999 warning about the crisis that could | Read More »
Good Grief … What the hell was McCain thinking?
By: Martin Knight (Diary) | September 30th at 04:01 PM |
With respect to his campaign, McCain needs to liberate his running mate from the former Bush aides brought in to handle her — aides who seem to have succeeded in importing to the Palin campaign the trademark defensive crouch of the Bush White House. Why, oh, why … in the name of all that is Holy would Steve Schmidt allow anyone who has ever had | Read More »

Psst! Senator McCain, A Debate Is No Time For “Bipartisanship!”
By: Martin Knight (Diary) | September 28th at 12:25 PM |
When the time came for McCain to let the American know how the current crisis came about, he demurred and instead went populist, going on and on abstractly about Wall Street and greed, when the fact is that financial houses were compelled to give housing loans to people with little prospect of paying it back. The role played by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in | Read More »
Open Letter to Governor Sarah Palin
By: Martin Knight (Diary) | September 27th at 06:00 PM |
Madam Governor, I’ll be brief because I know you’re a busy woman at the moment. I’ll therefore be frank. Your last interview, the one with Katie Couric, yes, that one – it was bad. Which means it was actually atrocious because at this particular point in time, you cannot afford to have a bad day on national television. You’re very obviously an extremely intelligent and | Read More »
Squandering The Palin Pick
By: Martin Knight (Diary) | September 27th at 05:04 PM |
This might make me very unpopular, but I have to be honest, I now think McCain picking Sarah Palin for his Vice-President was a mistake … that is; if what he really was looking for in a VP was nothing more than a highly-scripted cheerleader, then picking Governor Palin was not the wisest decision; In fact, it could not just lose him the election, but | Read More »
Rathergate II: It’s not just CBS this time, it’s the entire 4th Estate.
By: Martin Knight (Diary) | September 22nd at 11:15 AM |
No matter how bad their pro-Democratic/anti-Republican bias got, the GOP and its candidates have shied away from confronting the MSM on it – after all, they own(ed) the airwaves and we would need them at some point. However, new media has made this reasoning largely obsolete, and with many crossing the line into practically campaigning in favor of Barack Obama, we cannot allow them to | Read More »
At the risk of ticking off Erick, Moe & (especially) Neil …
By: Martin Knight (Diary) | September 22nd at 08:58 AM |
I mean, I understand that the number one priority is to get the site and its new user functionalities running nice and smooth. But … notwithstanding RS is “free candy” the template of the site is depressingly dull compared to what came before in 1.0 and 2.0. I recommend a lot more white and red, a little more light blue and a heck of a | Read More »
