GWB has the political instincts of a rock.

Another blown opportunity.

We can thank God that the Democrats selected the most stupid people they could find for Congressional leadership positions. If Harry & Nancy were even half wits they would be looking at a 49 state sweep for BO and majorities in excess of 65% in both the House and Senate. Why? Because this President is absolutely the worst excuse for a politician ever to see the light of day.

From The Hill

The White House has rejected calls from House Republicans that it convene a special session of Congress on energy, saying it wouldn’t make a difference.

“We don’t have plans to call Congress into session — it won’t make a difference if Democratic leaders are unwilling to bring up a bill for an up-down vote,” said White House spokesman Tony Fratto.

Republican Study Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) and Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) asked President Bush to convene the special session in an Aug. 1 letter. The same day, House Republicans launched an unusual protest on the House floor urging House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to call Congress back to work.

“Since Speaker Pelosi has decided not to keep the House in session to allow this vote to take place, we urge you to use the power vested in you by the Constitution to convene an immediate energy special session of Congress,” the letter said.

Highlight is mine.

The Democrats hand him, on a silver platter, the opportunity to drive home the point that they don’t give a tinkers dam about “the people” and the price we are paying for energy and he goes to China because hey, everybody knows the Democrats won’t “do” anything so what the heck is the point.

THE POINT! Mr. President is that in just a few months we’re going to hold an election. Now I know you’re not running, but a whole bunch of the members of your party are. And right now a whole bunch of that bunch is going to get their clocks cleaned, probably by “conservative” Democrats who will go out of their way to enable their Marxist Congressional leadership.

YOU have an opportunity to help some of them get elected/reelected.

Call a Special Session and let Harry & Nancy show to the whole country just how sold out they are to the enviro-whackjobs and how little they care about “the people” they claim to represent.

Take this golden opportunity and stick the energy crisis right up their you-know-wheres. Work with John McCain and the Republicans in Congress – who’ve shown the courage to stand up and fight, something you’ve been woefully short on for the past seven and one half years – and help the country. Help your Party, after all you are the leader of the Republican Party for a little while.

Mr. President, leave us with a shining moment to remember your Presidency by. Come home from China, because the American People are more important than the Olympics. Stand up and fight. Call a Special Session. Call a press conference ever day – maybe two a day – and beat the bastards like the cheap drums they are. Make this front page news on every newspaper in the land every day until they pass a bill. Make them sweat. Beat them. If you would only fight, sir, they would back down and run like the cowards they are.

The House is on board. Only you can get the Senate on board. Call a Special Session.

One has to wonder just why President Bush won’t do anything to fight the Dems unless it has to do with the war.

He has the golden opportunity of his presidency to make a point about the left – why not take advantage of it?

We’re fortunate that they are more incompetent than he is.

All he’s done, with respect to fighting the Ds on the war, is to sit back and let them stew. He’s never taken the offensive on any part of the war…

  1. Ds lying about the rationale for war.
  2. “Jiggered intelligence”.

I'm Not As Down On Bush As You Are, But You Are 100% Right On This

IJB Monday, August 4th at 6:55PM EDT (link)

As best I can figure, he wants to keep congenial acquaintances with the few Dems still talking to him after he leaves office.

Because I can’t figure out one other good reason why he hasn’t cancelled his stupid China trip and called an immediate special session on drilling/gas prices.

Like I said, I’m not as down on Bush as you.

But things like this are the reason that I won’t miss him as President when he moves on in January. These last 2-3 years have been the most politically incompetent of any Administration since Carter & Johnson.

Just, bad, horrid, pathetic, etc.

It goes to show you how bad Gore and Kerry were that they lost to him (though his 2004 campaign was much better than his 2000 one). Looks like the Dems are keeping that tradition going this year.

I would theorize that Bush is...

Dave_in_Fla (Diary) Monday, August 4th at 7:34PM EDT (link)

…trying to find a way to get an energy bill to actually come up for a vote, because he sees it as his job. He thinks that is more important than taking political advantage. If he embarrasses Nancy & Harry too much, they will refuse to do anything in September.

Mind you, I don’t know the inside of his mind, but his actions over the years kind of point that way. Getting the job done as he sees it is more important than being the political kungfu blackbelt.

Personally, I wish he would do it, but I’m guessing why he won’t.

“If they were merely incompetent, then at least SOME of their actions would have been to the benefit of the country.” – Joe McCarthy

Maybe, but since the Republicans have

dbecraft Monday, August 4th at 7:48PM EDT (link)

been so reluctant (in the past) to confront the Democrats, I have my doubts. Both Bush and McCain have had many opportunities to confront the Congress on their environmentalist and immigration agenda (heck with the little people – you know, normal Americans) and have failed miserably.

Sometimes I think that we are fighting against two parties united (with selfish agendas) and no desire to do what is best for America.

I think Bush has a point. Just because he calls a special session, doesn’t mean Speaker Pelosi has to put something up for a vote.

However I think Bush should still call the special session just to interupt Pelosi’d book signing tour.

mbecker908 (Diary) Monday, August 4th at 9:04PM EDT (link)

that argument. Oh wait!

I’ll say again GC, I am a complete supporter of the President in most areas.

  1. Foreign Policy.
  2. Tax Rate Reduction.
  3. The Iraq War.
  4. SCOTUS Nominees.
  5. Drilling (finally).
  6. Social Security Reform.

To name just a few.

I am, and have been, and will continue to be, a harsh critic of GWB because he steadfastly refuses to fight for the values he seems to believe in.

In the area of FP, neither Powell or Rice have done him any favors. They’ve both melded into Foggy Bottom and become State Department Employees. Bush has refused to stand up and fight for his stated FP preferences against the folks at State and the Democrats.

With regard to taxes, he did an excellent job getting his initial rate reductions passed. All we’ve heard from him since is crickets chirping.

Iraq. You keep harping that we’ve won the war. Sorry pal, you’re simply wrong on that one. We’ve so far managed to win the battle to begin to stabilize Iraq, but the “war” is far from won. He has allowed the Democrats and media free reign to declare defeat – so far not in the least retracted – to openly slander our military on repeated basis, to lie about the rationale for the war and the actual conditions on the field. He’s allowed them to repeat and expand on their lies so often that a majority of the American people believe them.

We will not have “won” the war until the Democrats admit that it was the right course of action and that we have been successful and have won. And that won’t be happening anytime soon.

The reason I’m so concerned about his silence is that he’s allowed the Democrats to create an atmosphere where the use of military force at any time in the future will be politically nearly impossible. That puts us at risk because you can bet that our enemies – the Iranians for one – are betting on the Dems being their allies in any confrontation. And they’d be right.

The other issue related to the war that really disturbs me is GWB standing by and doing absolutely nothing (OK, one nasty speech with no follow-up) when WaPo and the NYT printed classified information. He did nothing about finding and prosecuting the leakers and did nothing to punish the papers. Zip.

With respect to SCOTUS nominees, I’m fine with R&A and I’m pleased that we shut down the WH switchboard over HM. What I’m not pleased with was his complete abrogation of his duty to press the Judiciary Committee to move his lower court nominees to an up or down vote. This was another issue tailor made for making huge political points and helping to elect Republican CongressCritters. All we got detachment – “That’s the Senate’s job…” and more crickets. As a result, there are dozens of open circuit and appellate seats that should have men like Miguel Estrada sitting in them.

Drilling. This is THE political issue of the season. He does absolutely nothing to capitalize on it. Even if some bill is passed in September, the Ds will take, and get, credit for it because it will likely have “other” stuff in it that they will use to take the focus off the fact that the oil companies will be able to explore/drill the OCS.

Social security. He didn’t put forth a plan with even a hint of a detail. He rallied support from about zero Republican CongressCritters. He went on a “townhall tour” that was largely ignored because he didn’t do his homework and get supporters on board. It was a completely wasted effort, if you can even call it an effort. And, it may have hurt the chances of any discussion of privatization any time in the near future.

Again, my issue with GWB is that he starts things well and then just moves on. No follow up. No fight. No offense or defense. And absolutely no leadership. And we find ourselves in a position where the Democrats are as trusted as the Republicans on Iraq and National Security, and well ahead on every other major issue.

And that’s GWB’s immediate legacy.

We have won the war and the NYT and ap have admitted same.

Obama, Pelosi and Reid managed to position themselves against the voters on the most important econ issue: oil drilling.

The only way we lose the issue is if WE decide to make the issue about Bush and a special session rather than the substance, about which Bush has been right since Jan 20, 2001 and who is responsible for the present price drop with his ending the exec moratorium.

All we need do is make sure we maintain a non-circular firing squad..

I like President Bush in many respects (he strikes me as incredibly decent), voted for him twice, etc. but his inability to take on Jihad as an ideology is a major weakness. Heck, he doesn’t even respond to a request by House members to call the House back into session?

Low hanging fruit that is never eaten. Even when he is not up for any kind of election, he still refrains.

We need someone who can use the bully pulpit. It must be a requirement for all future Republican Presidential nominees.

We also need someone who actually enjoys the debate, enjoys the give and take, and seeks to obtain the advantage–not NewTone v2.0.

Did you know that China has been losing manufacturing jobs since 1995? For the specific data, see Table 1 in the following link: http://www.bls.gov/opub/mlr/2005/07/art2full.pdf

This Edwards thing has them really unhinged. How long until they accuse McCain of sending the Enquirer photographers to the hotel?

“ROTTEN CORRUPTED NAZI REPUBLICAN CONTROLLED MEDIA”

You got issues. Maybe this will help you get a grip.

Paranoia can be conceptualized as “rationality in the service of the irrational.” Once fixed on a particular idea or explanation — no matter how bizarre or irrational; the paranoid person looks for evidence to validate their prejudices. It is almost impossible to change their minds. Their entire concept of themselves is tied up with the paranoid idea or conspiracy. If it did not exist, or was proven to be untrue or false– then they would need to question their underlying assumptions and ideas–and those are what usually form the foundation of who they believe themselves to be.

Dr. Sanity

“Whenever the legislators endeavor to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people, who are thereupon absolved from any farther obedience, and are left to the common refuge which God hath provided for all men against force and violence.”
