From the diaries by Caleb
The President has a big problem. BIG problem. And, down deep in my soul I think this problem is going to make the current state of the economy look pretty good. Ten or fifteen percent unemployment will be no big deal.
As I noted in a diary yesterday, a US soldier has been taken prisoner in Afghanistan by the Taliban. It is confirmed that they have a video of him in captivity, and he’s likely not being held at the Kabul Sheraton Grand nor, I suspect, is he being fed a diet that is consistent with his culture and I doubt the video will show him being allow to participate in a chapel service with religious adviser of his particular faith.
You can bet the enemy will be releasing that video – the US Army already has it and has confirmed it’s accuracy without releasing the name of the soldier pending notification of next of kin. It’s also a good bet that there will be future videos and it’s a sure thing that those will be released as well.
President Obama hasn’t said anything so far, and he hasn’t been asked either. Recall that a simple hostage taking at sea sent him into four days of dithering when the problem could have been resolved well within the first day and was only resolved in the fourth day because the senior officer on-scene was willing to put his career on the line.
This time it’s different.
The Pirates didn’t have video cameras and weren’t media savvy. The folks holding our soldier are. And that video will be show to the American People in the hopes that it will break their spirit and their will to fight. Terrorists seem to have short memories; they thought knocking down the World Trade Center would have that effect to. Of course, this time we do have a different President and the political party that ran off and left about five million Asians to be slaughtered 35 years ago is in power now. Same folks that noted that war in Iraq was “LOST” just three years ago.
But, like in 2001, the terrorists have underestimated who the American People are. I’ll note briefly who they AREN’T: Barney Frank, Ted Kennedy, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Code Pink and their friends.
On June 4, 2009 SFC John C. Beale was KIA in Afghanistan. [NOTE: I've corrected his rank based on DoD press release. I can't fix the YouTube header. Thanks navychick and ocleverone.] His death didn’t make headlines and outside of his hometown, wasn’t much noted. His body was escorted home on June 11, 2009 to Falcon Field in Peachtree City, Georgia, just south of Atlanta. The Henry County Police Department escorted the procession to the funeral home in McDonough, Georgia. A simple notice in local papers indicated the road route to be taken and the approximate time. This was filmed during the procession by a State Trooper. Please note that “a simple notice in the local papers” was the extent of the announcement. No front page articles on his heroism, no TV interviews with his wife and children. Just “a simple notice”.
This video is about 12 minutes long, and while it is not professionally done, if you look closely you can see the faces of “The American People”. Enemies of freedom, please take note. President Obama, you’d damn well better take note.

Achance (Diary) Sunday, July 19th at 2:10PM EST (link)They’ve accomplished more of the longstanding communist/leftist agenda in America in less than eight months than the Clinton’s could in eight years and, as yet, there isn’t even a glimmer of effective opposition to them. WJC’s first big push to the left was HillaryCare and opposition from the health care industry and the right was immediate and vehement. Since that time, industry generally and the healthcare industry specifically have been co-opted or bullied into submission. Submit or the government just takes you over is a pretty clear threat. We have to get an effective opposition in place by the ’10 elections or the ’12 elections will simply be a sham and communist hegemony will be in place for a very long time.

mbecker908 (Diary) Sunday, July 19th at 2:15PM EST (link)Some of us have been saying that the Marxist agenda would be in place by the end of the year, and at this point I see damn little happening to stop it.
Too many Republicans are focusing on who our candidate should be in ’12 when there is likely to be nothing to be done in ’12. At this point, it looks to me like BO will be absolutely the most successful President in the history of the republic in terms of implementing his agenda. Hell, he won’t even have to run in ’12 at the rate things are going.
They WILL get socialized medicine and with Republican votes.
Achance (Diary) Sunday, July 19th at 2:23PM EST (link)Cap and Tax will also ultimately pass – also with some Republican votes. Then all they have to do is get “card check” and they’re done. Care check is the key to making us the United Socialist States of America. They’ll put up a shom over taking out the consent recognition in the Senate then put it back in in conference and ram through the conference report. Then not business or trade group in the Country will dare oppose them. Add in a ACORN conducted Census and USDOJ supervised re-apportionment, and there maybe only one name on the ballot for each office for the ’12 elections – sorta like union elections.
In Vino Veritas
I agree on the particulars, but I think that
mbecker908 (Diary) Sunday, July 19th at 2:54PM EST (link)government run health care is the key to government ownership of everything. Card check just insures that they have the infrastructure – along with ACORN – to be in office forever.
I think there’s a better than even chance that the Democrats are going to be able to replicate what the PRI did in Mexico. With the same results.
And as far as union elections go, are you saying that confederate elections were better?
I'll Take The 'Under' on Both You Guys

Swamp_Yankee (Diary) Sunday, July 19th at 6:22PM EST (link)I’ll take the under to. If we stop them until August recess. They will only have from 9/8 to 10/30 before this session ends.
Next year, the entire fall session will be nonexistent because of the election. The summer session will be tense as poltical races boil up and voters are paying attention.
Getting from 1/09 to 09/09 with a lousy stimulus and a House vote on C&T is a victory. Pusing things back ultimately has the effect of knocking other items off the floor.
And Obama, dont give hime too much credit. Much of the legwork has been done behind the scenes for generations.

TNJim (Diary) Sunday, July 19th at 2:05PM EST (link)… what Art said. Someone said once, and I’ll have to paraphrase because I can’t recall the exact quote, that we are free not because of the diplomat, but because of the soldier.
There must have been thousands of people along that route. Every wide place in the road had dozens, if not hundreds of folks. They didn’t turn out to honor a diplomat, but a soldier, Mr. President. A soldier who, like many others still in the field, expects you to get the job done, with a win, not a diplomatic “settlement”. So do those people along the parade route, and us. Foot dragging and “we’re looking hard at the situation” ain’t doing it.
Those people along that route are indeed the “Faces of America” who understand and honor the sacrifice of SSG 1C Beale and others, fallen or fighting, and their families. I echo becker when I say Mr. President, you damn well better take note. This is the real America, not your sycophants in ACORN, Code Pink, or Congress people like Reid, Murtha, Pelosi.

Flagstaff (Diary) Sunday, July 19th at 3:34PM EST (link)That is the finest tribute that could be paid to the young man.
I don’t want to diminish it in any way by even making this comparison, but it should be noted. This was a far more heartfelt and important outpouring of genuine respect and admiration than the seven days of Michael Jackson’s beatification. These aren’t people striving to be seen with the glitterati–they are real American People of all colors and ages, honoring one of their own. Some are doing it with a salute and some by carrying a flag, but all are doing it simply by their presence at the final journey home by an American hero.
Thanks for bringing it to us.

mbecker908 (Diary) Sunday, July 19th at 3:39PM EST (link)no organization brought those folks out. There wasn’t any publicity urging people to “show up”. I’m sure, at the last minute, there was some coordination with the fire departments simply because they’ve got to coordinate where they are with other FDs in case of emergency, but it wasn’t an “organized” demonstration.
These good people just “showed up” to pay their respects for a man they probably didn’t even know and probably had never heard of.

Mike gamecock DeVine (Diary) Sunday, July 19th at 6:47PM EST (link)an American President won’t defend us, we will not be defended. Our Islamist enemies showed their ignorance of this country by thinking that President George W. Bush and Bill Clinton were the same kind of Americans and that the Republican Party was the same kind of Party after 911.
Reports are that UBL was sure we would invade Afghanistan after the 1998 embassy bombings…
If some one had told me 9-18 months ago that a President Obama would not have cut and run from Iraq and Afghanistan by now or that we would be supporting Pakistanis that won’t al Qaida and Taliban out of their neighborhoods as well as we have, I would not have believed it.
So far….so far…Obama has decided not to lose in Iraq and Afghanistan and the unnamed but still ongoing War on Terror, at least in a number of ways incl troop numbers, some offensive actions and on some detainee treatment and other executive war power fronts.
I would be surprised if this hostage incident were to cause Obama to change the current policy, but while I think it would be a stretch to blame Obama for this incident, there are many reasons for our enemies to think they can roll Obama and the Dem Party given their weakness rhetoric and votes before Obama was Inaugurated and much of Obama and the Dems’ rhetoric and some actions since, esp w/respect to Iran.
Thanks for pointing out how Real America needs no vocal CINC or media to honor the troops much as they have been doing continuously in airports for Iraq deployed troops even when ObamaDems and the Drive bys were telling us we were evil for being there.

mbecker908 (Diary) Sunday, July 19th at 8:18PM EST (link)any more than I blamed him for the piracy incident. What I will do however, is hold him fully accountable for the outcome, just as I did with the piracy incident. He was twisted up in his shorts over that, I have no good feelings about the outcome of this one. Please note that I don’t think that BO has much control over whether the soldier gets out alive, and I won’t say he’s got blood on his hands for that death. It’s his response to our enemies that I care about.

mbecker908 (Diary) Sunday, July 19th at 10:37PM EST (link)When the video is made public – and I think it may be on YouTube now – I would put the Marines into a medium sized city/town in the general area and give them a set time to release the soldier. If he’s not released, I would flatten the city and kill absolutely every living thing in it. Then I’d send in the Marines to make sure nobody survived and then I’d let the SeaBees plow the city under and remove all trace of it from the face of the earth.
Then I’d give ‘em 24 hours. Wash, rinse, repeat.
And if they didn’t give him up, I’d kill every living thing in the country.
