OK, I admit it, I was wrong.

I hate it when this happens. I was wrong. Woefully wrong.

I said JD Hayworth would peak in the polls on the day he announced he would run against McCain. So much for what I know. From Rassmussen today…

Following news that Sarah Palin will campaign for him in Arizona, Senator John McCain has opened a significant lead in the Republican Primary campaign.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely 2010 Republican Primary voters in Arizona finds the longtime incumbent leading former Congressman J.D. Hayworth by a 53% to 31% margin. In November, the two candidates were virtually even.

Former Minuteman leader Chris Simcox gets four percent (4%) support, while three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate and eight percent (8%) are undecided.

Some of this has to do with Sarah Palin campaigning for McCain. Most of it has to do with the fact that Arizona is a purple state and JD Hayworth is a loud mouthed jerk (who, honestly, I prefer to McCain) and people have had a while to remember just how awful JD is.

Still, 74% of likely GOP Primary voters have at least a somewhat favorable opinion of McCain, a figure that has not changed since November. Hayworth’s favorable ratings are down nine points to 58%.

Sorry folks, it is what it is. And the Dems have nobody interested in opposing McCain whose name recognition is as high as my dead white cat. If JD runs, he likely won’t get 31% of the vote and Simcox certainly won’t get 8%. Think in terms of well under 30% and maybe 3%.

I actually see this as one of the "pros"

aesthete (Diary) Friday, January 22nd at 4:12PM EDT (link)

of Palin endorsing McCain: it means that people will, more likely than no, not waste their money on a long-shot bid, and that they might invest their funds in a more winnable race in ’10. Of course, this will probably be offset by the fact that Palin will be using her skills, and perhaps funds from her PAC, to help McCain, but at least in this case, there is a silver lining.

I'm still seem to take the contrarian view of things

John McCain doesn’t really need the funds at all. He can raise some dough and she can too, I’m figuring that this will move over to SarahPAC in the not to distant future. I’m thinking that this is more a stop of convenience for Sarah and not so much because she likes McCain(I could be wrong on that).

Richard- If she is campaigning and "fundraising" for McCain

Scope (Diary) Friday, January 22nd at 7:52PM EDT (link)

how can those funds be redirected to the SarahPAC? Oh, for sure, I am really really dissapointed, but, I can in a small way see that she is paying her dues for McCain putting her on the national stage. I personally don’t believe she owes him anything. He allowed his team of losers, Schmidt and Wallace, to trash her, and, did nothing about it. He is pulling out all the stops now with his re-election campaign, and is calling in all his chits. Palin is once again a tool for him. She has lost alot of credibility in my eyes, and, I was never her most ardent “bot.”

It's all a slight of hand, Scope

Anyone that runs for office seems to know that. I don’t she any thing to owe McCain either because it was the base that force him to pick her. I don’t think there is any real way to hurt image, provided that was some kind of jaded image that wanted her to be and it’s not living up to it. Relax, she’ll be down here in the Houston area on Feb 7(why pick a Saturday, why not a Tuesday). Take off the Rose colored glasses so it’s easier to see her.

You seem one that doesn’t take criticism very well. You always seem to want to fight. If you want to beat people over the head, you must remember it’s going to hurt you. I think you need to remember that. Please calm for the sake of your life.

McCain would just make equivalent contributions

back to her; that’s the way the game works. I’m just sitting in amazement watching Sarah dance with who brung her instead of looking for the opening, but then again, maybe she’s looking for the opening. The most dangerous place in politics is standing beside Sarah Palin.

I might have to get a Plane ticket to Juneau in order to straiten you out. Anyway, I don’t know what some can’t understand about a contrarian viewpoint. It’s just a different way to see it.

I wish Sarah had stayed out of AZ...

AceInTX (Diary) Friday, January 22nd at 4:13PM EDT (link)

after McCains panzy assed behavior where Schmidt and Parker were trashing Sarah and it took him almost a year to condemn it….SHE OWES HIM NOTHING….

If McCain is to beat Hayworth or any other challenger then fine…but she shouldn’t be helping him and she’s taken a big step backwards with me!

I’m unclear on where you were wrong btw…this doesn’t say anything different that what you’ve said all along as far as I can tell

“but she shouldn’t be helping him and she’s taken a big step backwards with me!”

I doubt there was a “big” step left.

Envisioning when all that is Left is the Right.

I'm not a Palinista...but she's very high in my estimation...

AceInTX (Diary) Friday, January 22nd at 7:14PM EDT (link)

and she fell of her pedestal jumping in to help McCain after he sat silently while his surrogates savaged her in the press with leaks and tabloid crap….he didn’t step in to defend her till JD showed well in the polls…

now the JD has crashed and burned…I guess she has nothing to lose in helping McLame…but I think she’s better served by staying away from the Maverick…before his crap rubs off on her…

JD would be peaking in the polls the day that he announces his candidacy. Instead, he peaked sometime before Palin announced her decision to campaign for McCain.

Purple?

Bob_Frazier (Diary) Friday, January 22nd at 4:19PM EDT (link)

So AZ is a purple state. Are the democrats going to vote in our primary? (I’m only half kidding. They certainly do in some states)

McCain is an example of what is wrong with the republican party. I did not vote for him in 2008 and if I lived in AZ I would not vote for him now.

Haven’t we learned our lesson? A victory for a “Mccain” is no victory at all.

Are we compromising yet?

Why McCain

redneck_hippie (Diary) Friday, January 22nd at 4:53PM EDT (link)

is getting a Palin visit. Who knows? My 2nd thought was she figures her presence would not affect the race either way and to not appear was being mean for no good reason. Obligatory? Perhaps.

ahead of McCain in the primary.

I supported Sarah wholeheartedly during the campaign. She should now stay out of local races that aren’t clear cut. It’s hard to believe it does much to help McCain, anyway.

“What’s the matter? Don’t you want to win the war?” – Capt. John Birch

“If the Nation can issue a dollar bond it can issue a dollar bill.
The element that makes the bond good makes the bill good also. The
difference between the bond and the bill is that the bond lets the

It is absurd to say our Country can issue bonds and cannot issue currency. Both are promises to pay, but one fattens the usurer and the other helps the People.” – Thomas A. Edison
