A bit of history.

The Left does everything they can to undermine our military. Especially the guys who are the point of the spear. The two most recent examples of this would be the Haditha Marines and the Navy Seals charged with beating the high value target they brought out to face justice.

In the case of the Haditha Marines, the thankfully late John Murtha did everything he could to convict them in the press. That didn’t work out so well for Jack.

In the case of the Navy Seals, that seems to be following the same track. From the Washington Times today…

Cracks are beginning to appear in the military’s prosecution of three Navy SEALs accused of striking a most-wanted terrorism suspect they had captured in Iraq.

Maj. Gen. Charles Cleveland last week signed grants of immunity for five Navy colleagues of the accused.

Some of those five, three enlisted men and two officers, are expected at trial to flatly contradict the prosecution’s key witness, according to a Navy source close to the case, which centers on the September 2009 capture of Ahmed Hashim Abed.

The witness, the master-at-arms at the base in Anbar province where the captured terrorist was brought, told investigators that he saw Abed being struck by one SEAL. One of the immunized witnesses identified by the master-at-arms for corroboration is not expected to support his testimony.

From a trial JAG’s point of view, this was a foregone conclusion…still, the lead up and the pressure to make the charges stick was intense.
I think the SEALS will emerge stain-free.

Now if the SEAL’s are aquitted (sp?) then the master at arms should be charged with making false charges or whatever the equivelent. But as a former soldier if I bring serious charges to a ranking officer and I press the issue then he has little choice but to follow through.

These operators are innocent, period. In my humble opinion, which with 50 cents won’t get you a cup of army coffee these days, so what if they did pop him, we train these guys to kill not throw teddy bears. He resisted he got popped, I’m ok with that.

needs to be moved to daycare for the Seals wives or something. We spend over a million dollars each training these guys and now we want to throw that money away and throw their lives away for this?

this reminds me of the Patton saga but it is worse, Patton knew the politics. The only word I have for this is DECADENCE, it is what brought down Rome and will be are undoing too if we don’t change course fast.

Officers don't have much choice there

And I somehow doubt that these SEALs are going to get any promotions or critical assignments anytime soon. That will hopefully be penance enough for their poor and self-centered choice of going for the court-martial (and for being dumb enough to pop the SOB). Any number of young JAGs were probably salivating to take up such an easy acquittal, and making the case public just guaranteed said acquittal all the more.

The master of arms is more responsible, IMO.

None of this would have ever come down if John Murtha hadn’t falsely accused fellow Marines in the name political expediency, and with a view to deliberately undermine Americans in a war he didn’t think was right.

Last I heard, that’s not how a real Marine fights wars.
