Come Together

I have always thought that Newt Gingrich would make a great president.   From the beginning I have believed that he is the best candidate to run against Obama.  However, the majority of primary voters have not agreed so far.

Romney’s smear machine has been successful in in its attacks on Newt but it has not been successful in delivering the conservative vote to Romney.   The combined Gingrich-Santorum vote eclipsed Romney almost everywhere.   The entire dynamic of the race would be different if the conservatives were united.

The point of no return is rapidly approaching.   If conservatives do not unite, the elites will get there way and Romney will be the nominee.   Gingrich and Santorum need to find a way to come together for a conservative victory.   Gingrich’s Big Solutions can only be implemented in the case of a conservative Republican victory.   Santorum can only win with a united conservative vote.  Negotiate a merger! Come together for victory and for our country!

In the next 6 days, either Gingrich wins Alabama and Mississippi or not.

If he does not win, Gingrich will have to quit the race.

So there is no advantage to Santorum to negotiate something now when Gingrich may be gone in a week anyway.

And there is no advantage to Gingrich to negotiating something now from a position of weakness.

Therefore, wait to see what happens next Tuesday in Alabama and Mississippi.

So let’s suppose Gingrich does win Alabama and Mississippi.

If I’m Gingrich, it might be nice to get Santorum out of the race before Illinois which has a winner take all by congressional district, but Gingrich needs Santorum in the race to win Pennsylvania.

Then Gingrich would like Santorum to be out of the race by May for the southern states but if Gingrich has already shown he can win southern states in a 4 man field, there may be no reason to quit.

Conclusion: Newt will either be out by next week or not at all, and I’m not sure a Santorum exit helps Gingrich with the Northeast states so he might be better off if Santorum takes those delegates rather than Romney. In other words, no one drops out until the convention.

Dick Morris suggests that Romney has to win 63% of the remaining delegates to avoid a brokered convention. (He points out that no candidate in modern times has won after a brokered convention so he argued we should vote for Romney to avoid this..ARGGGHH) Anyway, if the convention is going to be brokered, no reason to drop out.

WHEW. What a race this might be!!!
