The “W” in Christmas

Each December, I vowed to make Christmas a calm and peaceful experience. I had cut back on nonessential obligations – extensive card writing, endless baking, decorating, and even overspending.

Yet still, I found myself exhausted, unable to appreciate the precious family moments, and of course, the true meaning of Christmas.

My son, Nicholas, was in kindergarten that year. It was an exciting season for a six year old. For weeks, he’d been memorizing songs for his school’s “Winter Pageant.” I didn’t have the heart to tell him I’d be working the night of the production. Unwilling to miss his shining moment, I spoke with his teacher. She assured me there’d be a dress rehearsal the morning of the presentation. All parents unable to attend that evening were welcome to come then. Fortunately, Nicholas seemed happy with the compromise.

So, the morning of the dress rehearsal, I filed in ten minutes early, found a spot on the cafeteria floor and sat down. Around the room, I saw several other parents quietly scampering to their seats. As I waited, the students were led into the room. Each class, accompanied by their teacher, sat cross-legged on the floor. Then, each group, one by one, rose to perform their song.

Because the public school system had long stopped referring to the holiday as “Christmas,” I didn’t expect anything other than fun, commercial entertainment – songs of reindeer, Santa Claus, snowflakes and good cheer. So, when my son’s class rose to sing, “Christmas Love,” I was slightly taken aback by its bold title.

Nicholas was aglow, as were all of his classmates, adorned in fuzzy mittens, red sweaters, and bright snowcaps upon their heads. Those in the front row- center stage – held up large letters, one by one, to spell out the title of the song. As the class would sing “C is for Christmas,” a child would hold up the letter C. Then, “H is for Happy,” and on and on, until each child holding up his portion had presented the complete message, “Christmas Love.” The performance was going smoothly, until suddenly, we noticed her; a small, quiet, girl in the front row holding the letter “M” upside down – totally unaware her letter “M” appeared as a “W”.

The audience of 1st through 6th graders snickered at this little one’s mistake. But she had no idea they were laughing at her, so she stood tall, proudly holding her “W”. Although many teachers tried to shush the children, the laughter continued until the last letter was raised, and we all saw it together. A hush came over the audience and eyes began to widen. In that instant, we understood the reason we were there, why we celebrated the holiday in the first place, why even in the chaos, there was a purpose for our festivities.

For when the last letter was held high, the message read loud and clear:

“C H R I S T W A S L O V E”

He still is.

Christ is born, Alleluia! Have a Blessed Christmas.

“the above is from an email I received recently and had sent on to other RedState members who in turn prodded me to make this a diary,I do not claim this as an original However it does state my feelings perfectly.
MERRY CHRISTMAS

WOW 5 years at Redstate

back in 2005 I decided to sign up so I could read and understand more fully the true meaning of conservatism, having lived the majority of my life in the Peoples republic of Massachusetts a lot of the things I was reading on this blog thingy were rather new and novel to me.
Seeing that a few years prior I had moved to sunnier climes (Florida) I found myself in a rather conservative area of the state and I thank all the posters at Redstate for providing me with an education in conservatism and its many different types and varieties.
I have watched and only very occasionally written while many of the greats have come and gone to and from the halls of this blog some have left in a fit of anger while others have passed this mortal coil and others yet have left to create something more on their own personal style my thanks go to all of you
Happy birthday??

FL05 Debate Pasco County

I had the opportunity tonight to attend the debate between Jason Sager and Dick Nugent running for the 5th district of Florida congressional seat. It became painfully obvious after the opening statements that things weren’t going well for Mr. Nugent, he began answering the questions from an independent moderator and immediately seemed to throw up a very defensive posture as though he was the man on stage with no pants on, his voice was trembling and he had a very poor showing. In contrast Mr. Sager was very sure of himself on the stage and had his answers down exact although he did not try to make Mr. Nugent look like a fool he didn’t have to as Dick did that all by himself.
When near the end of the debate Mr. Nugent began giving Democrat talking point answers he was actually booed by the audience. Score this debate at a huge win for Jason Sager .
I also had the privilege and honor of meeting Mr. Big Gator 5 at this event I know he had his video with him and he may show some soon.

Florida Congressional District 05, Jason Sager is the real Conservative deal

I spent Sunday afternoon at a get together for Jason Sanger for Fl 05 , this was my first time visiting with him and I came away very well impressed with both his platform and his person,  As a person Jason is a regular guy trying to do the right thing and he is not embarrassed to tell everyone that he spent 4 days praying on it till he got his answer to go for it. Jason has his family and his wives family behind him in full and now a whole lot of Fl05 Republicans, he has said he will not run a negative campaign against his primary challenger but rather point out the obvious differences between a Reagan Republican and a government can do it all RINO (my words not his). As far as his general campaign it will include many things to appeal to Republican conservatives he is a strong pro life believer and is one of the reasons he was running against Ginny B.W. he is very adamant that we the people place the lock back on the chains that should bind government from interfering in our lives and while not believing he should play to the party line he says we need a new revitalized Republican party as the present office holders have gotten fat and lazy and are happy to be taken to dinner if you would like to read more on Jason his web site is www.standwithsager.com

Fl05 gets major change

Well today the race in Florida 05 changed in total because Ginny Browne Waite R declared her retirement (she is ill so she is not running away) the only problem I have with that is just like the rest of our imperial congress she feels she has the right to name her successor.
We have had a person (Jason Sanger) running since the first of the year he is running with the help of Tea Party advocates and many other conservative organizations, standwithsanger.com
The problem I see is Ms BW has “appointed” the sheriff of Hernando County Richard Nugent to take her place as what she calls a concerned conservative.
I dont know enough about either of these men to generate an honest opinion, but I am having a difficult time being happy with Ms BW telling the county Republican committee’s that this is the guy, what about the primary I guess it doesnt exist for those in DC, this is the problem we are having with many of our Republican incumbents and I feel its time to stop it.
Yes I am part of my county Republican Exec committee and will be bringing this up at the next meeting.

Red State III and what to do with the problems

have been using Red State III since the inception of the Beta program and have had no real problems with it except for the last week or so when it seemed as though the whole world “stumbled” upon my favorite read.
So how do we fix it? First thing I know it seems like a government program but no bull they need money to grow and survive, just a suggestion to all the professional people out there that read this blog
cough up a little
Hey I don’t make a lot of money any more I am retired with minimal income but I have been trying my best to provide a donation as often as possible to what I have found to be the best blog period.
No matter how much or little any of us make we can all give a little to keep on getting the best information available anywhere.
If all the regulars and semiregulars would give a latte’s worth of money every week (for us working guy’s a coffee and donut) I think we could help RedState to grow and become what so many people are looking for .
If you don’t want to give anything “fine” but remember you thereafter you don’t have a dog in this hunt.
Also please remember few if any of the moderators and editors receive any kind of payment from Red State, most of these good folks are working to get a good product out to you because they believe in the fight.

Citrus County Florida cancels the RINO’S

Primary results

Early results from Citrus County Florida shows the RINO’S have been sent packing, the anti growth high tax rino County Commissioners Joyce Valentino and Vicki Phillips were defeated by a political newcomers Joe Meek and Win Webb who have both stated themselves to be low tax and pro growth with 100% of the vote total now in the incumbents lost about 2 to 1, Webb got 68.1% compared to Valentino’s 31.8%, Meek got 67% to 32.1% for Phillips.
In a bit of a surprise long time Property Appraiser Melanie Hensley was defeated by another newcomer Geoff Greene 53.3% to 46.6%.
The only commissioner to be given another chance was pro growth low tax advocate Dennis Damato. It seems to show that people are angry with government just doing as they please and feeling they are untouchable.
Even though we are a Republican dominated County we stillneed toshed ourselves of these people who think they own it all.
