The Tea Party pulls Santorum into second place in South Carolina. New Rasmussen Poll. Romney 27%, Santorum 24%, Gingrich 18%, Paul 11%, Perry 5%

Just more proof that the tea party is unified in backing Santorum. We want Santorum as our candidate and are not concerned with the opinion of non tea partiers who think we should be supporting someone else.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the Palmetto State finds former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney still in the lead, earning 27% support from likely GOP Primary Voters, up from 23% in early November. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is in third with 18% of the vote, followed by Texas Congressman Ron Paul at 11%.

Bringing up the rear are Texas Governor Rick Perry with five percent (5%) and former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman at two percent (2%).

The latest findings from South Carolina parallel the voting sentiments of Republicans nationally following the Iowa caucuses, with Romney out front with 29% support. Santorum, after his photo finish with Romney in Tuesday’s caucuses, runs second at 21%, with Gingrich in third with 16% of the vote. The January 21 primary in South Carolina is especially critical for Santorum who has largely written off next Tuesday’s first-in-the-nation New Hampshire Primary and is counting on the conservative, evangelical vote in the southern state to build the momentum for his candidacy.

Santorum is the best liked of the candidates, with 72% favorables among likely primary voters in the state. Nearly as many (68%) share a favorable opinion of Romney, followed by Gingrich who is viewed favorably by 59%. Fifty percent (50%) like Perry, while 55% have an unfavorable opinion of Paul. Huntsman, too, is viewed more unfavorably than favorably, but 27% of primary voters don’t know enough about him to venture any kind of opinion.

Santorum outpolls both Romney and Gingrich two-to-one among Tea Party voters.

The alliance of tea partiers and social conservatives will make Rick Santorum the GOP presidential nominee. Both groups overwhelmingly support Santorum. And new polling in South Carolina and Florida backs that up.

Grassfire Nation, the parent company of Liberty News and the Patriot Action Network, conducted a survey with tea party voters in Florida and South Carolina.

    The top three candidates were:

the tea partiers who support him are the ones who think that romney has the best chance to win against obama. i DONT agree with of train of thought myself, but i attend plenty of tea party events and rallies, and that have heard that opinion expressed by more than one person.

i would definately say us tea partiers prefer mitt to paul, perry, or huntsman. and that opinion is based on my active participation with the tea party movement. and yes, i understand that redstate is considered a defacto campaign arm of the rick perry campaign so i am not going to get into a debate over ”why the tea party should be supporting perry”. but clearly we dont., and all the available polling and numbers back up my comment.

the vast majority of the tea party support goes to either rick santorum or newt gingrich. we see those as the two ”anti romney” candidates worth supporting.

anyway, apa guy, i believe that the tea partiers supporting romney think they are being ”pragmatic” by supporting mitt. i realize thats only my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions. but i tried to answer your question as best i could. : )

I’m not familiar enough with statistical methodology, but I don’t think you can saw Rasmussen poll shows Tea Party members support anyone.

As for the other polls, I think you need to ferret out voters who are conservative on all three legs of the stool, and as fiscal conservatives consider themselves Tea Party members, but put social issues as their highest priority.

        Just look at Lindsay Graham.

only 1/4 of them are libertarian. by the way, this number is not a surprise to the people that actually attend tea party events.

and i fit that demographic perfectly. i am a socially conservative tea partier.

But Tea Party is synonymous with federalism and fiscal conservativism.. If tea party members support Rick Santorum, it’s not because of his fiscal policies.

I see nothing in the Rasmussen article that mentions this? As of now, I see nothing that supports your claim..

i pay for the ”premium service” from rasmussen and they go into greater detail on their stories and poll information. i probably should have posted that link instead of the other one. i though they were the same link. LOL. so i will post the info you requested with the correct link.

i made the claim that santorum has twice as much tea party support as any of his other opponents. that is from the same rasmussen poll in south carolina that i originally referenced.

i will repost the link again, but if it doesnt come out right again, i will tell you how you can verify that it came from that rasmussen poll. i will post the actual paragraph from rasmussen below.

Santorum outpolls both Romney and Gingrich two-to-one among Tea Party voters. Romney holds a similar lead over his top two rivals among those who are not part of the movement.

if you google that paragraph you will see it comes out rasmussen/election 2012/south carolina republcian primary. i just googled that phrase and will link you to the rasmussen article i referenced.
