The whole thing isn’t about gravy boats or microwaves, it’s about building a supporter database that can help re-elect Obama .. but more importantly, that OfA can sell to other Dems.

These people are not *only* playing short-term ball here.

but the Obama donation registry has no feature for people to make donations in place of a gift unless donations have been registered for. They could do that on their own anyway, but there would be no reason to blame the Obama campaign for that. It seems far more likely that some liberal loons will register for Obama donations and receive a bunch of microwaves and gravy bowls instead. Which would be great.

This diary, however, claims that the hypothetocal couple will miss out on the microwave that they need. If they really need the microwave then that’s what they will register for insted of an Obama donation, it’s their choice what to register for, not the choice of the gift giver. Thus the diary is disengenuous in claiming that people will miss out on things they need or really want because of thus fund-raising scheme.

How this point id hard to understand I can’t begin to fathom. Do we really need to tell falsehoods about Obama when there is so much truth to condemn him? Why not write a diary about how this move simply reeks of desparation rather than distorting fact?

the Obama campaign is only asking you to donate instead of buying a microwave if that’s what the happy couple ASKS you to do, via their obnoxious registry. Which is considerably different fromyour wedding guests deciding for you on their own that an Obama campaign donation is the best gift they could give you.
