Huddle Up For Heroes: A Patriotic 11 Year Old Boy Takes A Stand For Our Military.

In many ways, Christopher Edwards is your typical eleven year old boy.  He loves motocross and animals, and like most his age, enjoys playing with his friends.  He loves chinese food and sushi, and said he could eat it “all the time.”

But one thing about Christopher is different.  He recently started a group called Huddle Up For Heroes, whose purpose is to see that all of our troops receive a ”Huddle Box” full of letters and little things that remind them of home and bring them some level of comfort.

HUDDLE UP FOR HEROES is a group created by an 11 year old boy who has a passion for our Troops and a desire to see that those overseas get packages from home! For info on how you can help email us at huddleupforheroes@gmail.com. Thank you!

Christopher Edwards may only be eleven, but he has already impacted the lives of many military service members.

”I just wanted to do something to help the Troops overseas,” he said when asked how he came up with the idea for Huddle Up for Heroes.  “Then early this year I saw a story about another boy my age who was helping the Troops by sending things to them. I asked my parents if we could do that, but I wanted to make sure every hero got a package from me. I want them to know that we love and respect and pray for them always.”

”His dad and I are so proud of him,” said his mother Denise.

“But he has always had a special place in his heart for the military. In 2004, he saw me lose a childhood friend who was like a brother over in Iraq. He started realizing then what sacrifices those who serve make for us and our freedom.”

She said that Christopher “started saluting anyone he saw in uniform.”

“He would walk up to them, salute them, tell them ‘thank you’ for protecting us or something like that, then tell them he was praying for them and shake their hands,” she said.

Christopher has also been a guiding light to his friends.  His homeschool friends now think ”it’s cool” to help our heroes and plan on helping him get things together for the Huddle Box Care Packages, and help write letters.

Christopher’s mentor, a retired Marine tanker named Daniel William Porcupile, had this to say about his young protege: ”I think he is setting the example that all of our younger generation need to follow, here is the thing, he is doing it because it’s the right thing to do and it’s from his heart.  Huddle Up For Heroes was all his idea.”

At the end of the interview, I asked Christopher what he wanted to do with his life.

”I am learning about motocross now,” he said.  “I want to start racing soon. I want to be like Ryan Dungey! He ROCKS! But I really want to be in the Marines when I grow up. I want to be a K9 handler.”

”And I am just a regular kid. I love playing with my dogs and cats and having fun. I just want to do all I can to help our Heroes! I want to send as many Huddle Boxes as I can. Our Sailors, Soldiers, Marines and Airmen deserve our help and respect.”

    a child will lead us.

And he has done more with less than our government could ever do.

    God bless this young man.

do you know he called me ”sir” throughout the interview because he believes in respecting his elders. and his parents homeschooled him because they wanted him to learn about morals and values as well as academic studies. i would say that they did a fine job.

…than many of our putative “leaders” do in their collective bodies.

What a magnificent human being Master Edwards is; Barack Obama spewed some dopey garbage about “empathy” during the Elana Kagan confirmation hearings (–or maybe it was Sotomayor; who cares–).

THIS is empathy. And love. Mr. and Mrs. Edwards, you are raising a valuable, valuable gem…

and christopher told his parents that he didnt want any gifts for himself, that the best gift he could get was people donating visa gift cards that could be used to buy items for his ”huddle boxes”, so the soldiers overseas would know how much people here cared about them. :)

i just sent him off his bday card with one. this fine young man is as genuine as they come.
