Boehner, It’s Time To Move On

In an interview with CBS News (RE: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/08/01/eveningnews/main20086598.shtml )

The question was put to J. Boehner:

“Pelley: You were unable to get your own caucus behind your bill a few days ago. Do you intend to remain Speaker of the House?”

His Answer:

“Boehner: I do. When you look at this final agreement that we came to with the white House, I got 98 percent of what I wanted. I’m pretty happy.”

WAIT Just One Minute. J. Boehner got 98 percent of what HE wanted. He only got about 10 percent of what WE wanted. And he works for us. I think from this answer alone, we can determine that Mr. Boehner should realize it is time for him to step down. We put him there through our votes last November. Our votes, by all accounts, were votes of UNSATISFACTION with the SOP of all of Government. We wanted fiscal responsibility. We wanted fixes to entitlements. We wanted restraints on the President’s spending. We wanted a muzzle on the check signature hand of Congress.

What we got is a deal to cut $100B a year for 10 years and a raise the the debt limit borrowing capacity of Congress for $2.8Trillion. That means that borrowing is 28 times larger than reductions.

THAT IS NOT WHAT WE WANTED!

Mr. Boehner, with all due respect, It IS time for you to step down.

here’s what he should have said:
He should have repeated his bold and emotional words on Friday. “I stuck my neck out a mile” he worked really hard, came up with the best deal he could, it is dissatisfying to conservatives, because it doesnt meet the higher standards of the better bill – Cut, Cap and Balance – and it still spends almost 98% of what Obama wanted to spend. But he and the Republicans bent over backwards to compromise with the Democrats and their rigid insistence on high spending levels. This bill is really a bill that had middle ground, but that we absolutely need to CONTINUE TO CUT SPENDING to get our debt, deficit and Government spending back in control.

It’s is completely absurd and awful how the leadership GOP misses each and every opportunity to needle the opposition, defend their values, express the message that wins support, explain things and move things in a conservative direction.

I heard Senator Blunt on NPR last week. I was aghast thinking “Is this guy even a Republican?” Not a word about cut, cap and balance. not a word on how unreasonable the Democrats are. Quite a club they’ve got, the Democrats up there call Republicans terrorists and the Republicans call Democrats “sincere”. What’s in the water?

This reminds me of the awful GHWB White House messaging. They would not and could not express a conservative thought if their re-election depended on it. Wait … it did. one termer.

On the flipside, the awesome Connie Mack IV comeback to Peirs Morgan. He opposed the debt ceiling bill, but refused to criticize Boehner, saying he was doing a great job. “Are you stabbing Speaker in the back?” He called Piers Morgan’s show a “joke” for even asking that. Its time to call media bias what it is.
