Time to get that disavowing going, guys.

I mean, really: how *dare* the Washington State GOP *quote* from Michelle Obama's political stump speech?

The absolute nerve of the Washington GOP.

Jake Tapper has more, including a fairly hysterical (in both the “funny” and “just one step below primal screaming” meanings, although not the “utterly dismissive towards women” one) from Governor Gregoire, who used the phrase “eight years of the most divisive, fear-driven politics this country has ever seen” without visible irony. It’s odd, really. My parents are Democrats, and they read history books. Many of my teachers were Democrats, and they all read history books. I was a Democrat, and I’ve been reading history books my whole life. But it’s like I turned around and all of a sudden was in this strange universe where even quite high-placed Democrats have never heard of the election of 1824. And that’s just me picking a *nice example.

Still, let me anticipate the McCain campaign: Bad Washington GOP! Bad! No biscuit!

*For that definition, we must look to Gov. Gregoire herself, who apparently is perfectly happy to retreat to 19th Century attitudes towards the trivialization of female speech when doing so suits her party. I suppose that we should be grateful that the Democratic Establishment simply didn’t decide that Michelle Obama would be more controllable if they had her thyroid gland removed…

    McCain criticizes the Washington GOP…

Just ask Gov. “keep counting until I get ahead, then stop” Gregoire.

    A civil war.

By definition, more divisive than the past eight years.

Only 5000 views and the Obamatons are freaking out in the comments section. I find it refreshing that they can always be counted on to give us such an accurate barometer of the effectiveness of our ads.

Mostly because their inhabitants mostly *stay *there.

I kind of like the video. Gregoire is on thin ice, what with how she pulled off her last election.

Someone at this site, I believe Robert Hahn but stand to be corrected, once observed that how someone will govern as president is foreshadowed by how they campaign. What we have here is an utterly humorless campaign that doesn’t defend on merits but seeks to shut down discussion by any means necessary. Press adulation that has bordered on neo-Stalinist reportage has fueled this hubris.

Obviously this is a hilariously stupid response from the governor, but it reveals a mindset that wouldn’t hesitate to curtail speech, debate, and those attributes that make us Americans. I think this actually portends for a potential president who might not give up power once his term ended let alone one that sees benefit in a vigorous First Admendment.

Yes, I fully expect McCain to attack the Washington GOP. It fully is his right. My right includes the ability to vote for McCain and trash him endlessly when he condemns the Washington GOP. I think McCain gets that nuance. I don’t think Obama does.

And the left thinks that Bush shuts down discussion.

I didnt know that actually… but that explains how you eloquently dismantle their talking points without using Republican talking points… one of your strengths.

I would be curious to know how you changes your views… If I am not crossing any personal boundaries, that is. I myself had a long journey from a Communist to a hardcore Conservative, so I am always eager to know how others came to, if I may be so blunt, their senses.

    In 1988 I was a Democrat.
    In 1994 I was a moderate Democrat.
    In 1997 I was a conservative Democrat.
    In 2000 I was a nominal Democrat.
    In 2002 I was a neoconservative.
In 2004 I finally gave up and re-registered GOP.

As near as I can make out, nothing significantly changed in my political views during that period.

This is a bit of a thread jack, but…..

    Why were you a communist?

Did you actually believe their ideology would work as a social structure or did you just go along with it because that was the cool think to do?

(I’m really interested in this question. I hung out at a communist site for a while asking such questions, but never got a satisfactory answer. At first they called me all the common bourgeois, capitalist pig, etc names but after a bit I got them to quit throwing manifesto quotes at me and start discussing. I didn’t get too far. They idolize Castro and Chavez and just won’t see how failed their economies are. They think that Cuba would have been a success if it weren’t for the US embargo ignoring the whole rest of the world.)

Why did you move away from communism?

Do you still have doubts about free markets? (We’ll help you cure any residual doubts you have.)

If you have a long answer for this, a separate blog entry would be good. By the way, congratulations on finding your way to the light.
