FRONT PAGE CONTRIBUTOR

Wow. I hadn’t realized that it stung the Democrats *that* badly.

Seems to be a theme for McCain's ads lately, huh?

First, let’s watch this:

Come, I will hide nothing from you: I worried slightly that this would set our conservative base’s teeth on edge. So, I said to myself: “Moe, when you write up this post, you had better include some links of all those Democrats saying some nasty things about McCain lately to make the point that either they were lying then, or lying now.”

But I don’t have to, because the DNC did it for me!

…only they did it taking 50% longer, sloppily (no Feingold or Obama retractions), and with the grim droning that we’ve all grown to love and appreciate from our Democratic colleagues. Perfect, in other words.

Whew.

Moe Lane

PS: But will the DNC ad work?

Not particularly, no. First off, it’s reactive; second off, it’s too derivative; third off, it should have been cut down to a minute (just like the original); fourth off, it almost obsessively goes after the most risky aspect of the original ad from McCain’s point of view (what it might do to conservative viewers) to defuse that message; and last off, it reinforces the message to American voters that Democratic politicians are in the habit of changing their message a lot. Which is probably why no Obama in the second one: the last thing that he needs is more of that particular message out there.

But it probably made the DNC feel better, and that’s the important thing, right?

“Senator McCain has a lifetime of experience and Sen. Obama has a speech he gave in 2002.”

Pretty much sums up the meat of the race.

I thought it was fine. It should have had Joe Lieberman and conservatives mixed in, too … plausibly, just everyone saying nice things about John McCain. The real Uniter.

    Still, it was good.

I have no sound at this computer, but I can imagine the Democrat rebuttal: “Are not! And you’re a racist.”

.. should be in every ad that McCain runs through November.

By the way, BO is only up THREE points in Oregon… Might make an interesting target for McCain.

  • Pentagon16

I think that ad is terrific, will continue to increase the pressure on Obambi, will remind the PUMA Hillary fans why they are going to NOT vote for Obama, and also shows the independents that McCain has been a center right figure his entire career willing to do what is best for the country over his own right wing.

It also serves to show once again what mealy mouthed liars most of the liberals are..

are some sick evil people…..with the way their heads are spinning and the puke coming out of their mouths we just might see another Exorcist movie! Oh we just did!

  • Darin_H

And it’s also why I believe that Hillary stayed in the race so long after we all knew she couldn’t overcome Obama’s delegate lead – to fatally damage Obama for her own personal 2012 gain.

what the theme of it all is in writing and some typed out exceprts. Don’t have time to listen to videos on and on.

Moe, please? I neer know what your stuff is about. There is a rumor its ususally great, but I never have time to hit three links to find out.

    please man

In McCain’s new ad it has quotes from just every major Democratic politician lauding McCain, and the DNC response is those same guys saying bad things about him now.

It’s amazing, as much as McCain’s ad, and his latest tack bugs me as a conservative, the DNC ads go a long way towards reassuring me. Because he’s at least making the right people angry.

Which is probably not the reaction they’re hoping for.

Personally, I suspect that McCain’s running these ‘try to forget I’m a Republican’ ads now to prepare the way for a Lieberman VP pick – a solid conservative pick would contradict his ad message. But that presumes that they have a cohesive message planned.

We’re already voting for McCain. We don’t need to be convinced that McCain’s the better guy, we don’t need to be convinced that Obama isn’t about us.

    This isn’t 2004.

This election is about convincing the middle undecideds, at this point. And this ad helps convince those people that McCain’s his own man.

Remember, guys, as much as we like being pandered too, you’re not going to send flowers to a sure thing.

I guarantee there will never be a video of top Republicans praising Obama like the Democrats praised McCain, (or of Democrats praising Obama before this Presidential race like they praised McCain).

Never thought I’d say this, but I especially love Hilary Clinton’s line.

  • gamecock

at the right people and making the right enemies, as I predicted months ago.

    Thanks for the summary skey.

  • Maggie_in_Indiana

McCain got it straight from their own mouths, over a period of time. The DNC ad is just flipping for Obama’s sake.

    Too we won this one.

As I said in another thread, the MSM has spent 8 years gladly trumpeting McCain before the cameras whenever he disagreed with Bush, so how could the average Joe believe that we now have McBush III?

We owe a round of thanks to the MSM for unwittingly gutting the guy they are in the tank for.

  • Dave_in_Fla

How they think this “rebuttal” is going to work is beyond me. All it does is reinforce McCain’s message. He is saying “I’m willing to work with them”, while the DNC response says “We refuse to work with anyone”.

McCain should run that first ad in major urban media market, every purple state or district, and anywhere else Dems, moderates, and squishes live.

McCain should pay to run the second ad in every red state and red district to fire up the base.
