“Foundation.”

Interesting, the current dynamic on this.

Here’s the new ad from McCain/Palin:

As Ed notes, it’s pretty effective: it tries to talk to the viewer and is notably more optimistic than whatever his opponents are throwing at the wall today (mind you, it’d be hard for us to keep a straight face if Obama/…Biden, right… tried optimism, given that their entire campaign is based around how the universe will implode unless you give him five bucks). It should be interesting to see which approach works better. I’m trying to remember the last time that optimism didn’t, but no doubt that’s in the eye of the beholder.

Its is running nationally and not just in battleground states, so the McCain camp must think this it will be effective

Its the third ad in a row on the financial crisis. The McCain camp is responsive.

I dont think the consrevative blogosphere is following McCain’s lead. The response to these issues has been tepid and it seems the Republican thrust up the polls has been thwarted

McCain camp continues its neo-populism. I’m not complaining, but find it fascinating that so many conservatives are comfortable with it.

This was in the post this morning… Is it fair? Is this where the problem came from???

*The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act aimed to make the country’s financial institutions competitive by removing the Depression-era walls between banking, investment and insurance companies.

That bill allowed AIG to participate in the gold rush of a rapidly expanding global banking and investment market. But the legislation also helped pave the way for companies such as AIG and Lehman Brothers to become behemoths laden with bad loans and investments.

I have become increasingly aware that God may have indeed been smiling down on us when McCain rose from the ashes to take the nomination. We were all throwing hissy fits about true conservative ideals (understandable), but what we really needed in this dark hour is what we got, and to boot, another Maverick for good measure. I like the thrust. Events are moving so fast these days that what works one day may not work the other, but McCain has created a new brand to such a time as this. I hope this works! And for an old guy, he’s surprisingly nimble.

I agree, in financial markets big is not always best. I never understood why the mad rush to build huge creations that are too big to fail.

Even though as a free-market idealist, I’m not comfortable bashing the greed of Wall Street. I think the government subsidizing the housing industry has more to do with the housing bubble than anything, but I can see this ad resonating with the “unwashed masses.”

I think McCain, and maybe Giuliani, were the only Republicans that could have won the White house this year.
