You know, Michelle Malkin and I don’t actually agree on all that much, but we do agree on this: it is perhaps not the most objective thing in the world to have as one’s VP debate moderator a woman who has written a book entitled “Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama.”. Particularly when it’s scheduled to come out on 01/20/2009. (Via Hot Air Headlines)
Some of Ms. Ifill’s objectivity here:
As Ms. Malkin goes on to suggest:
Ask the Commission on Presidential Debates if she will acknowledge her conflict of interest: 202-872-1020.
And here’s the e-mail address of Janet H. Brown, Executive Director of the Debates Commission: jb@debates.org
Note that neither Ms. Malkin nor I am suggesting that Ms. Ifill stop moderating the debate; merely that she let the viewing public know right from the start that it’s in Ms. Ifill’s long-term financial interest that Senator Obama win the Presidency. They call it “transparency:” it’s quite the coming thing. The media should try it sometime.

What is wrong with a tax increase if the beneficiaries are the people? Aren’t you in agreement with Barry and not Johnny?
Then she turns to Biden and asks are you not the author of the greatest crimes against women law in the history of the country? The single law that helped turn the tide against violence against women.

jamielove Wednesday, October 1st at 6:13AM EDT (link)Gwen Ifill is a very good journalist and moderator, and the format of this debate is designed to allow Sarah Palin to look as good as possible. I share the concern about there only being a single VP debate, not just for this campaign, but as a general case. I also thought that McCain was right in calling for 10 town hall meetings with Obama. Maybe Sarah Palin and Biden should have more than one debate.

Strelnikov Wednesday, October 1st at 6:34AM EDT (link)Otherwise, why would they agree to have a “debate” (and the “debates are NOT debates: check out the transcripts of the Lincoln-Douglas debates for a proper use of the term) “moderated” (I feel like Chris Farley) by such a person?
Look at the way the W. Administration has rolled over and played dead against most of the Dems’ criticism of everything it has done, even when the evidence was on the Administration’s side?
It is distressing to see the McCain Campaign following the Administration into the same open grave: all they have to do is quote Nancy Reagan: “Just say no!”
No to Gwen Ifill, unless we can have e.g. Sean Hannity next to her.
Are they afraid of looking petulant or illiberal?
It is time to attack, attack, attack the media and call them on their bias at every turn, and to proclaim it loudly with the righteous anger that the average person feels and is expressing by canceling subscriptions to leftists rags and turning off the major networks!

I frankly wonder since last Friday, when McCain let Obama get away with not being tagged for his corrupt dealings with FNMA and FMAC if this has not been a thrown campaign. If so, he deserves every ounce of disgust we can dump on him.
If I do not see an effort by the McCain campaign to tell the truth about Obama and FNMA and FMAC and our economic catastrophe, and if I do not see Republicans screaming from the floor of both Houses really soon for Dodd and Frank to step down, I am going to blow a gasket. If it turns out that McCain has simply used Palin, but is now tossing her tot he wolves, ruining a great Gov. and person, I will personally look for an opportunity to share my disgust with him.

c17wife Wednesday, October 1st at 9:35AM EDT (link)To the Presidential Debate Commission- As an American citizen, I must ask you to replace Gwen Ifill as moderator for tomorrow’s VP debate between Senator Joe Biden and Governor Sarah Palin. It has been disclosed that Ms. Ifill has a book favorable to Senator Obama that is to be released on Jan. 20, 2009. This is a gross conflict of interest. She can not be allowed to moderate.
I find it troubling that the debate commission did not disclose this information to the McCain campaign nor the public. This is negligence on the part of the committee.

That said, I think she’ll do fine in the debate, McCain’s campaign was very smart to limit the actual debate portion and get the format changed so that each candidate delivers talking points without any back and forth. Palin can handle that.

Dear Ms. Brown,
In the essence of fairness to the debate process, I feel it is my duty as an American to ask that Ms. Gwen Ifill be removed from serving as moderator for the first and only vice presidential debate.
The release of Ms. Ifill’s new book supporting and praising Barack Obama creates a genuine conflict of interest in a debate of great importance to this country.
I trust you will make a decision which supports the mission described by your office website:
“The Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) was established in 1987 to ensure that debates, as a permanent part of every general election, provide the best possible information to viewers and listeners. Its primary purpose is to sponsor and produce debates for the United States presidential and vice presidential candidates and to undertake research and educational activities relating to the debates. The organization, which is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) corporation, sponsored all the presidential debates in 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004.”
Sincerely,
Bob Dole beat Clinton in debate, still lost
Harod Wednesday, October 1st at 10:20AM EDT (link)It was completely obvious Bob Dole wiped with Bill Clinton and he was incapable of responding to Dole’s attacks and was reduces to pandering. I drove cab at the time and asked everyone who one and they all said the same thing “Bob Dole was mean spirited”
So think of it like this, we listen to the debate on the radio while the rest of America watches the debate with the sounds all the way down and judging the debate by looks. Then after judging which candidate looked better seeks the 1st spin to support that judgement.
I think that is why Bob Dole lost the debate and Nixon lost to Kennedy why history is recording McCain lost the debate. So I think this is how America will look at the Palin debate.
