FRONT PAGE CONTRIBUTOR

105% of Indianapolis registered to vote!

You're doing a heckuva job there, ACORN.

It’s like this. Brendan O’Shaughnessy of IndyStar reports that:

In the county, 677,401 voters were registered as of Monday evening; that number was expected to continue growing as last-minute registrations are entered into the system. In 2004, the county had 602,918 registered voters.

Meanwhile, Ogden on Politics went and looked up the population of Marion County, Indiana. In 2007, it was 876,804. No problem, right? – Except that:

Of that number 232,607 were below 18 years of age, for a total of 644,197 people in Marion County/Indianapolis 18 or over and thus eligible to vote. (Indiana allows felons to vote as long as they are not incarcerated).

That works out to 105% of the eligible population of Marion County is apparently registered to vote. Unless somebody wants to tell me that the number of adults in Marion County increased by more than 4% in a year? Anyone? No?

Say Anything asks, is there an ACORN office in Indianapolis? Why, yes, they have one there, and one in Gary, Indiana. Say Anything also notes that Senator Obama seems fond of the Democratic-allied organization. Getting-close-to-seven digits fond of the organization, in fact. Not that we have any proof that the above bloated voting records have anything to do with the unfortunateactionsofafewbadappleswhowecantcontrol.

Yet.

But the month is young.

Or do we just have to bend over and grab the ankles?

I live in Indiana, and it is amazing.

  • jkauman07

They have been changing people’s voter registration’s here in Western PA. And of course CNN or MSNBC mentions nothing about them.

  • Pomme

    Much to ACORN’s dismay.

  • Incredible

Whooda thunk that the most precient movie of our time would be Tommy Boy!

  • pwest

shows the desperation of the Dems. Also, not to hyjack a thread, but the ratings for this debate where down from the VP debate, which is good in my opinion. People say Palin, loved her, and hopefully made up there mind from her performance.

If this is the case, then you can understand why there is such screaming in Mudville because the Mighty Obama may have struck out!

  • Mayhem

Is there anything to prove that ACORN was directly responsible for the over registration? Just wondering, since a lot of our blogs are insinuating that they were. Is one organization even capable of fraudulently registering 30,000+ people in a single county, in the span of one year, without someone noticing?

I live in Indiana, so I know the Democrat leanings of Marion County. However, Indy is by no means the most liberal city in America, and the GOP dominates almost every office on the state level, so I would think someone in that town would get word of such a large criminal undertaking by one group.

That said, ACORN is an offense to everything fair and decent in our political system, and I hope they are held to account if they are responsible for that many fraudulent registrations. Lord knows they are lurking everywhere in Lake County, right next to Chicago.

  • David_Hinz

phenomenally over the past year. No doubt some major heavy industry moved to town bringing with it many many jobs.

  • southern_in

People aren’t magically purged from the voter rolls when they die or move to another county or another state. If somebody moves from Indianapolis to Columbus, Ohio, there’s no way for the elections board to tell other than, hey, that guy sure hasn’t voted in a long time.

Before you attribute this 105% to an insidious liberal conspiracy, consider that Wyoming has had 105% voter registration for over a decade, and states don’t get much more red than that. They just don’t purge the records that often.

  • Moe_Lane

The closest that I came was a voter fraud tag. Which is no doubt rank speculation, although it’ll probably be taking a bath soon.

Now, if you think that the possibility of an insidious liberal conspiracy needs to be addressed, well, I certainly can’t stop you.

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE MESSAGE EVEN IF YOU ARE PRO OBAMA….PLEASE BE WISE AND EDUCATE YOURSELF ON OBAMA……………PLEASE, THIS IS AMERICA AND WE NEED TO PROTECT OUR COUNTRY!! OBAMA SUPPORTERS, PLEASE DON’T GET OFFENDED AND NOT READ THIS…PLEASE, PLEASE I KNOW YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR COUNTRY AND FAMILY SO PLEASE READ THIS….EVERY WORD OF THIS CAN BE VERIFIED! EVEN IF YOU HAVE “MADE UP YOUR MIND” TO VOTE FOR OBAMA, SIMPLY TAKING TIME TO READ THIS WILL HELP YOU TO MAKE A MORE EDUCATED DECISION. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW ESPECIALLY PEOPLE IN “SWING STATES”.

REASONS NOT TO VOTE FOR OBAMA:

    1. Obama’s lack of experience….only been in senate since 2005. McCain has been in senate for almost 26 years.

    2. Obama’s lack of military service/understanding. Obama has never served/fought for our country. McCain has not only fought for our country, but he was held as a prisoner of war and refused to reveal America’s tactics/strategies/secrets!! He even refused to leave his fellow prisoner of war soldiers behind when the enemy offered him to be released!!!

    3. Obama has been associated with terrorists as his friends…For example, William Ayers (a leader in the radical terrorist group the Weatherman Underground) bombed several buildings including the Pentagon and it killed civilians and police officers. Ayers said in 2001 that he has no regrets and wishes he could have done more! Obama and Ayers both served on two non profit boards and they worked very closely together. AYERS EVEN HOSTED A POLITICAL EVENT AT HIS HOME FOR OBAMA. Obama acknowledged he is a friend of Ayer but defends himself saying he was only 8 when the Pentagon was bombed…BUT he can’t explain why he is still friends with Ayers. AMERICA….PLEASE REMEMBER 9/11 AND TELL ME WHY WOULD WE BE SUCH FOOLS TO TAKE A CHANCE??? PLEASE THINK OF OUR FUTURE, YOUR CHILDRENS FUTURE, AND YOUR GRANDCHILDRENS FUTURE.

    4. Obama and his campaign are currently being investigated for illegal funding being provided by foreign countries that HATE America. The FEC (Federal Election Commission) is currently investigating these funds. More than half of the $454 million raised by Obama has come in small increments of $200 or less….campaigns are not required to report small donations. Two fictional donors using the names “Doodad Pro” and “Good Will” gave Obama more than $11,000 in increments of $10 and $25 (according to newsweek). Roughly 11,500 donors who gave a total of $34 million to the Obama campaign are from foreign countries who are not allowed to contribute to the U.S. elections. These countries include countries that we are in war in and have a likely involvement in war in the near future. Obama has even been ENDORSED by radicals such as Nation of Islam Leader Louis Farrakhan. Even radical terrorists have praised him. “We like Mr. Obama and we hope he will win the election, ” Ahmed Yousef, senior Hamas leader was quoted by ABC radio as saying. He has backed driver’s licenses for illegal aliens even though this will HELP FUTURE terrorists move freely in the U.S. THINK ABOUT IT….WHY WOULD FOREIGN COUNTRIES THAT HATE US WANT US TO ELECT OBAMA???? HE HAS ALREADY BEEN LINKED WITH A TERRORIST….THIS IS JUST ANOTHER REASON TO NOT TAKE A CHANCE WITH OBAMA.

    5. Obama recieved a 100% Liberal rating from the National Journal which makes him the most left-wing Senator in Washington!! More liberal than even Democratic senators like Ted Kennedy.

    6. Everyone has heard about Obama and his relation with his American-hating Rev. Jeremiah Wright. This reverend has said, “Not God Bless America….God Damn America”. He is a racist and an outspoken one at that. Once this got out in public, Obama chose to distance himself from him BUT ONLY after he had been going to that church where that Rev. spoke for “all his life” (according to Obama himself)…. He can not say that he did not know how Rev. Wright preached and what he represented. If Obama did not agree with him then he would have left that church a LONG time ago.

    7. Obama wants to almost double the capital gains tax. He wants to strip the FICA tax cap off every worker making more than $97,500. He wants to increase the dividend tax and let the Bush tax cuts expire….which will give almost EVERY American an automatic tax increase. He has also called for more than $800 billion in new spending programs….which Americans will have to pay for….how do you expect taxes to decrease and how to you expect the ECONOMY to be lifted up again if Americans have less money and more taxes???

    8. He is the MOST PRO-ABORTION candidate in history of the country. In 2001, as a state legislator in Illinois, he opposed a bill to protect LIVE BORN CHILDREN. He was the ONLY Illinois senator to speak out against the bill. I HAVE TO ASK…IS THIS ANOTHER ONE OF HIS PLANS TO ELIMINATE AMERICANS??

    9. He opposes gun rights!!! He has a long history of trying to eliminate citizens access to guns. Originally, he backed Washington’s total ban on private handguns(but it was overturned). He has been rated a “F” by the NRA on gun positions and they say he is one of the most dangerous anti-gun politicians in the nation.

    10. Obama is pushing to have felons register to vote to increase his chances of winning. Obama has co-sponsored a Senate measure that would allow all ex-felons to vote. Ok, you say…they are Americans, shouldn’t they have that right? Maybe, that is an opinion that could be debated. BUT, there are 2 points I would like to make on this issue. First of all, the fact that Obama thinks having more felons register and vote will increase his chance to win says ALOT about to what extent his campaign will go to in order to get him elected AND that they automatically assume felons will support him. AND THE BIGGEST POINT made on this issue is the fact that people in our MILITARY are having a hard time getting to vote. Soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan might be distracted and forget to register or fill out absentee ballots. Those at sea have to plan ahead to make sure their absentee ballots get in on time. The Federal Voting Assistance Program is currently attempting to make it easier for overseas voting, but that doesn’t seem to be a priority for Obama’s campaign….. Why? Maybe because a majority of our military support McCain…our military has seen the troubles of the world first hand, and they of all know what we are fighting for and if they support McCain we should too. NO ONE can debate the fact that the people who fight for our country deserve the right to vote and have it count!!

    11. PLEASE ABOVE ALL REMEMBER WE ARE AMERICANS AND OUR COUNTRY HAS ALWAYS BEEN BASED ON FREEDOM AND RELIGION…RELIGION OF CHOICE DUE TO OUR GREAT COUNTRY…BUT MOSTLY CONSITING OF CHRISTIANS. OBAMA HAS SUPPORTED AMERICA WHEN THEY ARE TUNNING INTO HIM AND WHAT HE IS SAYING, BUT HE HAS BEEN QUOTED WHEN HE DIDN’T KNOW OTHERS COULD HEAR….TO HIM, WE AMERICANS ARE SIMPLY “BITTER” AND HE HAS MOCKED US SAYING “THEY CLING TO THEIR GUNS AND THEIR RELIGION”. YES, WE ARE AMERICANS!!! WE NEED TO STAND UP AND SAY THAT!! YES, WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS (THANKS TO THE 2ND AMENDMENT!!!) AND YES, YES, YES, YES….WE CLING TO “OUR” RELIGION. I’M GLAD HE RECOGNIZES THAT!!
**LET ME STRESS AGAIN…OBAMA STATED “WE AMERICANS” WHICH IS EXCLUDING HIMSELF AS AN AMERICAN; HE ALSO STATED “THEY cling to THEIR guns and THEIR religion”…..which is also another statement EXCLUDING HIMSELF AS AN AMERICAN. IF HE IS NOT WITH US, THEN HE IS AGAINST US!!!

PEOPLE OF AMERICA, FROM ONE AMERICAN TO ANOTHER, I TRULY HOPE YOU HAVE READ THIS ENTIRE MESSAGE. I KNOW OUR ECONOMY IS GOING THROUGH TOUGH TIMES, BUT THIS IS NOT THE CHANGE WE NEED. OUR COUNTRY HAS BEEN THROUGH ROUGH TIMES AND HAS ALWAYS BOUNCED BACK, BUT IF WE MAKE THE WRONG DECISION IT COULD BE A VERY DANGEROUS ONE…AND WE DON’T WANT TO TAKE THAT CHANCE. WE DON’T NEED TO PUT OUR GREAT COUNTRY, FAMILY, AND FRIENDS IN POTIENTIAL DANGER AND WE DON’T NEED TO LET SOMEONE RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT JOKE ABOUT OUR RELIGION….THAT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. I KNOW ALOT OF PEOPLE BLAME BUSH FOR THE CURRENT SITUATION AND WANT A DEMOCRAT IN OFFICE TO HELP PROMOTE A CHANGE, BUT PEOPLE PLEASE REMEMBER THAT MCCAIN HAS A HISTORY OF STANDING UP TO HIS OWN REPUBLICAN PARTY WHEN NECESSARY. PLEASE DON’T EXCLUDE MCCAIN JUST BECAUSE OF THE PARTY HE IS REPRESENTING.
*PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW…ESPECIALLY PEOPLE IN “SWING STATES”****************

I WAS DISTRACTED BY ALL YOUR YELLING.

  • krisi

Maybe you just have your mind made up…but I have to believe that there are enough Americans out there who will take this issue seriously enough to investigate all the issues presented and then they will see that it’s the truth. Once that is seen, there is no way anyone in their right mind would be willing to vote for Obama.

  • Moe_Lane

What I would suggest that you do is break up stuff like this. Look at what each individual thought there is in the email blast, break that down to a post of its own, add things like links that support what you’re saying (if you can find MSM sources that back you up, use ‘em; local papers are good, too), add some personal commentary… then go away for an hour, have a sandwich, reread what you’ve done. Look for the spelling things that get missed by spellcheck; maybe read it aloud a little.

If you still like it, make it a blog entry. Either here, or on your own site. That way, you have a link, so when you want to send something around via email, you can just give ‘em the link and let ‘em read it. The feedback that you’ll get back from it will be specific to you, too.

The only other thing that I can suggest is don’t post twelve posts at once; space ‘em out a bit so that people have a chance to read ‘em.

  • David_Hinz

tell ya what. READ. Don’t post for two days — just READ.

  • krisi

to get anything through to someone who is unwilling to be open minded and do their homework on such an important event as the presidential election. If you couldn’t read my post…then how can you even comment??? I’m not here to argue so this is the last time I will respond to you unless I have a legitimite reason…I am hear to speak to the Americans that are willing to listen and protect this country….Thank you for your response though…that gives me the encouragement to know that this information irks Obama supporters that refuse to change their mind because they know this information will hurt their campaign…

  • krisi

Thanks for the advice. I might try that tomorow.

  • mbecker908

No, but they can be. And quite easily. All the elections folk have to do is send a letter via US Mail and request an address change. One of three things will happen:

    1. The recipient will receive the letter and the elections department will not be notified by USPS.
    2. The recipient will have moved and left a forwarding address. The elections dept will be notified. The letter will be forwarded and it should contain a note that the recipient will be dropped from the voter rolls because of his move.
    3. The recipient will be dead or otherwise not receiving mail (like he lives at the vacant lot where ACORN registered him). The letter will be returned to the elections dept and they can drop the “person” from the rolls.

It’s cheap, effective and not particularly labor intensive after you get the obligatory lawsuits out of the way.

    2) I looked on the the StatsIndiana page: it doesn’t actually list the under 21 population for 2007; the blogger is mixing 2007 and 2006 numbers.
    3) The StatsIndiana page itself is an unofficial estimate.

Do any of you remember IN during the Democratic primary? I remember that it took them forever to call the state that night, and then I remember the mayor of Gary, IN announcing that they “were going to change the world” or something to that effect. Then, I remember Brit Hume and Michael Barone on Fox implying that they thought that possible voter fraud was taking place (I heard that John King on CNN actually accused the Mayor of Gary of voter fraud). Then, twenty minutes later, the results of the IN primary magically appeared with Hillary winning, but by two points instead of five or six points (like the polls predicted). Anyway, I remember that night telling my husband that I thought that some sort of fraud (or at the very least, some funny business) had taken place in IN–and that was before I knew anything about ACORN. This is all starting to make sense now.

  • Incredible

I watched them back to back this weekend (yes, I was that bored) and messed up the reference. But at least someone got it.

  • McPALINation

story, where the guy is in deep doo-doo apparently for using “Barrack Hussein Obama” –break– can anyone clue me in on where Lee County is? Is that FL? Thx

  • disanthropic

    sigh

    1. Bush (41) 4 years in the House of Represenatives (66-70). Some appointee positions. Head of the CIA. 8 years as vice president. Clinton (42) No federal government experience. Bush (43) No federal government experience. What was the conversion formula for political experience to presidential experience again?

    2. My grandfather was a prisoner of war in WWII. Lot of respect for him. Solid electrician in his day. Wouldn’t say he had any more or less military or foreign policy experience for it, though.

    3. Obama may or may not know Ayers well. Yeah, lives in the same area. Yeah, spent some time on the board with a couple charitable associations with him. Not so sure that means he agrees with him, same as I wouldn’t necessarily want to be held accountable for every action, mistaken or intentional, of everybody that I know. Heck, I’m replying to your comment, does that mean that this little interaction we’re having hold significance that I agree with everything you say or do the rest of your life?

    4. Obama’s campaign has made the right noises when it comes to contributions that aren’t legit. Not knowing your source for the numbers you cited, I can’t say…but if one soldier posted overseas felt compelled to donate, would they also be included in the 11,500 you say? What about american citizens that for whatever reason are currently living abroad? Are they illegal donors? Let the FEC investigate, but be careful about posting things as fact. Due process, yeah? Either way, if anyone is donating outside of election finance law, that is the fault of what action by Obama?

    5. If I give Obama a 100% conservative rating, does that make him better? The National Journal might have some bias, you know. I’ve not read it. Have you?

    6. You quote one thing from the Rev. Wright, and assume that was prevalent through the time Obama spent at that church. It’s fallacious reasoning.

    7. There’s basically two reasons to tax: Raise revenue for the government and influence behavior. Income is taxed largely as a revenue gain. Cigarettes are taxed because somebody believes people shouldn’t smoke. When the tax rates are set so that working for a living is taxed more than investment, what does that say? We care more about you having the capital than we do you actually being productive?

    8. I am no fan of abortion. The words “back-alley” and “coathanger” should really be considered more often when talking about being anti-abortion. Of course, I’m also male, so I’ll never have an abortion myself.

    9. I’ve no interest in guns, but I have an interest in the constitution. Wish you would’ve cited some specific examples.

    10. Voting is still a state’s rights issue, and yes, some states do allow former felons to vote.

    11. I have religion, but I believe that if people were more concerned about how they were doing in the eyes of their deity, and not so worried about everyone else, the world would certainly be a friendlier place. Plank in your eye and all that.

You’re free to your opinion, I’m free to have mine. That’s a significant part to what makes this country great. I’m a registered republican, and I don’t know how I’m going to vote yet. It’s very unlikely to be McCain. Too irrational. Too many cheap stunts (suspending the campaign and all). Too much “I don’t know what the hell I’m doing, but I’m a POW so it would be unamerican to question me.”

  • jkeith3213

Thankfully we have a voter id law in indiana. Hopefully it’ll weed out the the invalid voters. By the way Gary is back in the news here in northwest Indiana, with how democrats in the county are trying to set new early voting areas that favor democrats, despite where state law says they must be located.

  • RichChatfield

WHen you hear of other countries where dictators who pretend to hold democratic elections but in truth control the out come through voting fraud gets caught, we all understand and see how seriously wrong that is, but it seems some just can’t seem to view it in the same way when people with intent are trying to change the outcome of an election. They won’t succeed though as we have seen their offices are being raided and each time they do, clear eveidence shows they are trying to undermine the voting system.

But look at it this way, like Gore, they need an excuse when Obama does lose, because they will say the FBI under bush raided Accorn offices unjustly and disqualified voters so that McCain could win.

Won’t that be fun as riots under the pretense of justice will break out everywhere.

    Gee, can’t wait for that.

  • derechista

…could help elect the first third world-linked American president.

One such component: it’s controversial that voters should have to provide photo id!

Political correctness is about to score its biggest win yet: the presidency for Barack Hussein Obama.

  • derechista

…folks from attacking him for his failures. You know, like the attacks that GW has had to endure.

No, you won’t be able to systematically tear apart our first black president. The media will make sure that this is the case.

  • Strike_Twice

Demand the Democrat leaders to denounce Acorn. I called Shumer’s office yesterday and asked why he hasn’t denounced the group. Put pressure on them to denounce vote fraud. If they don’t, we nail them on it. If they do, we connect Obama to vote fraud. Folks, we can make a difference. Write to your local newspaper, take out an ad, do the little things. We can turn this tide.

  • southern_in

Gary, Indiana, the population center of Lake County, is over 90% African-American. There was record turnout for the primaries. Their infrastructure for handling that turnout is woefully inadequate — the city is like a burned-out bomb crater, for chrissake. To anyone familiar with the place, there wasn’t anything odd about their taking a long time to report in the primaries.

This is where I might add that even though Gary has a population of over 100,000, the governor of Indiana sought to close down the only license branch in the city. Why? The motor voter law.

(If that’s not it, then please explain why Elletsville (with fewer than 10,000 people) has its own license branch, even though it’s only five miles away from Bloomington, which also has its own branch.)

  • the_mad_chemist

I grew up in Indiana, and voted absentee during grad school. My dad told me that I was still registered at their house as of March of this year (I haven’t voted at that address since 1996). I would not be surprised to find that many of the others on the rolls are similarly non- purged registered voters and only serve to depress the turnout %age. There may be some precincts in Marion County where they may be illegitimately voted (this should be prosecuted), but I suspect this to be the exception rather than the rule.

  • Achance

That’s one of the two reasons ACORN does the last minute registration pushes. The second reason is that they know they can overwhelm the elections offices. The 90 day thing is another reason to hate motor voter!

We need to get some good legal/constitutional scholars at work on how to separate state elections and voting standards from the federal elections and standards. Nothing says I have to elect my legislators and governor on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. We start with getting the states back from the communists.

  • mbecker908

    before the election.

You are spot on about “motor voter”. And about putting some ConLaw folks to work on the issue. A couple of other thoughts…

    1. Why couldn’t the feds require a photo id to vote in a federal election?
    2. We should find a way to purge the voter rolls at least every 10 years, preferably after every Presidential election. Make people re-register and, per #1, provide a photo id (at a minimum) to be eligible to vote in the federal contests).
    3. Kill of motor voter.
    4. Kill off things like are going on in Ohio right now.
    5. Launch a RICO investigation against ACORN.
