Dave Reichert (WA-08) wins re-election bid.

A nice bit of news.

Don’t get me wrong: Tuesday was still a shellacking. But I covered this race earlier, and it’s nice to see that he won.

Reichert wins re-election in 8th District

Republican U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert has won re-election in Washington’s 8th Congressional District, defeating two-time Democratic challenger Darcy Burner in a close race.

With almost 80 percent of the expected vote counted from Tuesday’s election, Reichert’s lead was nearing 8,000 votes Friday. Roughly 270,000 votes have been tallied.

After a bruising and expensive campaign, Reichert successfully held off a strong run by Burner, who was challenging the former King County sheriff again after losing to him by just 3 percentage points in 2006.

I’d say “Better luck next time,” Ms. Burner, except that your party doesn’t really give third chances.

…..now we just need Tom McClintock to hold on in CA-04 and Andy Harris to somehow pull one out in MD-01.

I’m not going to lie, I’m surprised she managed this long without it being called against her. But she’s a transplant, running against a former and well respected sheriff. I know the left loved Darcy, but politics is local.

She’s an okay person though, just not the right district for her.

Reichert is the only GOP candidate that I voted for who made it. McCain got clobbered, and Dino Rossi conceded a couple days ago. It’s nice to see that at least one of my votes was working.

Burner was an opportunist. She ran the same campaign twice against George Bush (in 2006 and 2008) and it got her nowhere. I hope she disappears now. If she can’t win this year, it’s unlikely she’s going win at all.

If I ever have to move back over to the wet side I guess I’ll have to live in the 8th!

Reichert=Bushhitler, take away a woman’s right to choose, failed policy, yada blah.

Good thing Dave has the cachet of catching the green River Killer, or it might have worked.

Great news, though. That was a race I was worried about.

    Thanks, heaven!

With that kind of margin, it would very unlikely for him to lose, at this late date.

    He’ll win.

    And define “OK person.”

Is she Pol Pot? No. Louis Farrakhan? No.

Instead, she is a totally brainless elitist who basically thinks everybody but her is stupid and that if only the peons would listen, everything would be great.

Gore and Kerry won WA8 by small margins (51-49 for Kerry, similar for Gore). I’m not 100% sure what Obama’s margin is, but considering he’s polling almost 58% statewide, while Kerry only polled around 53%, I’m sure Obama is doing much better. Given the dynamic of the year, anybody with a D had a chance.

Anyhow, yes, she was an awful candidate, she’s pretty much the only politician in America who’s resume was even thinner then Obama’s in relation to the office they were seeking, but the early numbers show she easily could have won. If she hadn’t blatantly lied in an attempt to pad her resume in the closing weeks of the campaign, she might well have won.
