Via Hot Air, this interview transcends awesome. Even crystallized awesome. This is awesomeness on a level that warps the very space-time continuum itself, and you will end it feeling remarkably chipper about the future. Not to mention counting the days until she can begin her Presidential run. I don’t want to give any spoilers away, but I’ll say this: she’s very much aware of the importance of both Florida and Montana.
If some of you are wondering why we react so well to Governor Palin, listen to this interview, and you might get it.
Seriously.

liberalrepublican Sunday, November 9th at 9:41AM EST (link)Great interview. Just so sweet.
I know Sarah is solid on the social conservative side, but is she a fiscal/small government conservative?
The little I know of her record indicates differently.
As mayor, she had her own Washington lobbyist. I hate the thought of that.
Alaska is the pork capital of the US - how much has she worked to change that?
While having a budget surplus, she raised taxes on oil companies to re-distribute more money to citizens.
She increased spending by 28% as governor while vetoing some spending projects.
After the last few years of a President and congress who has spent money like drunken sailors, do R’s care about stuff like this anymore?
“Broadly speaking, liberalism emphasizes individual rights and equality of opportunity. … including extensive freedom of thought and speech, limitations on the power of governments, the rule of law, the free exchange of ideas, a market or mixed economy”

I guess you don’t need substance to vote for someone. Where I come from that is what we would call a sheep. Are you going to be waking up on January 20th looking for a check? I think you will be disappointed.
BTW, do you really think Obama is ready to be President? He was in the Senate for a year when he chose to run for President. Ask Joe Biden if he is ready. He said he wasn’t. He has never even had a regular job. How can he know what we are thinking, and what regular Americans are going through. And no, a Community Organizer is not a real job. Community Organizer is another name for a thug. And as we found out from ACORN this year it is a network of thugs.
Actually, that might be what is needed.
seattle_ite Sunday, November 9th at 10:21AM EST (link)After all, what has the ‘mature’ GOP set been doing for the cause, lately?
Collegial, middle-aged and older men and women are why we’re at this point, right?
We’re going to need someone more closely in touch with the youth vote; I may agree with your sentiments about her choice in ‘music’, but a lot of voting age kids listen to that stuff, and it helps a candidate to know about these things. Besides, I also have daughters, and can attest that one can never escape the musical choices of ones children.
We need someone with energy, and fire in the belly. Check.
Conservative? She is that, and isn’t that what we’ve been asking for all along, from our ‘leadership’?
Sure, she could use a bit more seasoning, but as we’ve been told by our ‘conservative’ leaders and punditry, no candidate is perfect for everyone, especially those new to the scene.
The problem has been a severe drought of ‘go-getters’ in the GOP; they’re mostly ‘go-alongers’. Conservatism can’t win by staying safe in our conjectures.
Not saying you’re totally wrong, just hope we see what we need from her in the future. Don’t count her out; she might surprise you.
good riddance
Badill_T Sunday, November 9th at 10:24AM EST (link)The facts are the facts. Palin is certainly socially conservative, and she appeals to the evangelical base, but she is not a fiscal conservative.
When someone brings this up you insult them, ignore their reasoning, and tell them they’ll be ignored by RS.
Those are not the tactics of someone with facts on their side.
The GOP continues to implode, and so many people have focused on this irrational hope that Palin will be their savior because she inspired the base.

Part of the reason AK is such a pork barrel state is because they are not allowed to be independent and harvest their natural resources.
QueenOfCups Sunday, November 9th at 10:37AM EST (link)They were more or less created to be dependent.
A Fisking we will go, a Fisking we will go...
Jeff Weimer Sunday, November 9th at 10:38AM EST (link)I’m going to address some of these points you bring up.
“What little I know of her record” - where have you been? There is more information about her record than there is about Obama’s. That statement is tendentious, at best.
Yes, she hired a lobbying firm to represent Wasilla and get pet projects funded. You may not like it, but they are constitutionally legal (The right to petition the government and all that) and is not wrong in and of itself. You may not like SOME lobbyists and the interests they represent, but you probably like others who lobby. Like AAA, for instance.
Alaska still is the pork capital, but much less so. One of the first acts as Governor was to direct state agencies to only ask for projects that had benefit to all Alaskans. She said something to the effect “We have to begin supporting ourselves.” That ticked off Stevens (no bad thing), as he’s tied his job the the amount of money he can bring.
No, she didn’t raise taxes on oil companies per se, as the oil in Alaska is owned by the citizens and they have a right to a share of the profit - that’s why it goes into a refund and not just the state coffers. She merely renegotiated the royalties the companies pay for the privilege of extracting that oil for profit. It was a laudable and sensible thing to do for the Steward of the state’s and her people’s interests.
I’m having a hard time with your last statement. Which is it you dislike the most? Yes, the operating budget grew, but the infrastructure budget remained at previous levels. Oh yeah, and the rebate (discussed above) was included in this budget increase, so it probably had a major impact on the 31% increase. The important fact is is that she didn’t fall into the temptation to spend every dime of revenues that came in. She has significant surpluses that will help when oil inevitably drops (as it already has). I would personally be happier if she spent MORE on infrastructure projects and less on the operating budget, but I’m not an Alaskan and I’m not her.

I rarely acknowledge your existence and
Achance Sunday, November 9th at 10:46AM EST (link)even more rarely respond to you but …
That’s a set of lefty talking points that could come right off the McClatchey-owned Anchorage Daily News’ blog and comment pages.
Since the federal government owns most of the landmass marked Alaska on a map, it spends a lot of money here. It spends it on itself and for its purposes. If the BLM weren’t the largest landowner in the largest state, it wouldn’t need a mega-bucks headquarters here. Likewise the NPS and a whole alphabet soup of other federal agencies plus a large USCG, USAF, and Army establishment.
And, yes, we did try to get our hands in the federal Treasury as you had an almost two decade boom financed by our giving oil away. Won’t happen again!
Having a lobbyist in DC and Juneau is par for the course for Alaska’s cities. Like most of Alaska, Wasilla is surrounded by federal land. In fact, access to Wasilla from Anchorage and vice versa, a common commute, is through Ft. Richardson land, an access that the Army can cut off any time it wishes.
Somehow, the Left branded Gov. Palin a religious zealot. I spent Monday morning staff meetings with her for a year or so, watched her whole campaign fairly closely, and pay pretty close attention to how she governs the State. I have never once heard her mention religion in any fashion in the course of her official duties nor has she carried out any new SoCon agenda.
You’d be well served by just dropping the republican part of your handle; you’d be much less conflicted.

I have no problem
ColoKid Sunday, November 9th at 12:08PM EST (link)with Palin’s record as governor of Alaska. My biggest concern with her candidacy for the presidency in 2012 is that she would lack sufficient familiarity and experience with the national and foreign affairs issues which are beyond her purview as governor. Even as a second term governor by that time, her experience, like that of any governor, would be primarily involved with issues within her own state.
In ‘08, the typical response to this criticism of her experience was that Obama had little or none either. While true, that argument was more an attack on Obama than a defense of Palin. But in 2012, Obama will have been president for four years. That argument against Obama will be moot. To truly challenge Obama on those issues, Palin needs to get that experience somehow.
Stevens’conviction could be a godsend in that regard. I am assuming that his appeals will be unsuccessful and that, after they are exhausted, the Senate will refuse to seat him and that he will have to be replaced. I don’t know what Alaska law calls for in such circumstances. Would Palin appoint his replacement? Could she appoint herself, then resign as governor? Could she resign under agreement with her Lieutenant Governor for him to then appoint her? Senator Palin, IMHO, would stand a far better chance of challenging Obama in 2012 that would Governor Palin. Any thoughts?

itsonlywords Sunday, November 9th at 1:12PM EST (link)Americans have never had an issue with governors running for president…I think they’ve tended to do very well.
I don’t doubt, though, that the media will make this an issue. You know, it was okay that Bill Clinton only had gubernatorial experience, but it won’t be okay for Palin.
That being said, if Palin appointed herself to Ted Stevens’ seat, the media would never let go of that. I think it would be a terrible mistake politically.

I think that she was working in her own state which was her sphere of influence. And she was there for less than 2 years before she plunged into national politics. This is not to say she is not good. I thought she did not need to pay attention to National and International events while she was paying attention to her state affairs. Now that she has been at the national stage for a while she will pay close attention. Additionally I would say she should register at this site
. And check out every now and then. That should help keep her informed with what’s happening in Washington administration, national politics and international events.
She can keep working as Governor and keep a tab on what’s happening nationally and within Republican Party. Participate actively. In a couple of years(at least 4) she will have a lot more accomplishments to boast of and if she can get it right she will have huge name recognition nationally and within the party. Also she will be better off if she can hire a few folks to work for her who can take care of her political interests (keeping these animals under control is very critical). She can’t keep responding to the media garbage on her own. Also I don’t believe any of this garbage in the media about her. She is governor of a state. State does business with countries. She has to have that knowledge and understanding. And nobody is expected to know everything. How is she supposed to know there are 57 states?
But I don’t like the idea of her calling these smear merchants “jerks”. She doesn’t need to argue with journalists. She would be better off if she has somebody who can keep hitting, manipulating and spinning the media. She just needs to be a fiscal and social conservative. For instance in case of FOX reporter doing “reporting with anonymous sources”, her “spokesman” could have just confronted this guy and questioned this gentleman’s integrity, honesty and worthiness in a public statement(for reporting rumors as news) and forced this fellow to apologize and kill this story OR to come up with evidence and proof.
And yes she needs to keep smiling. All beautiful, conservative and smart women get ugly, liberal and dumb women a fit and that to me is real fun.
