I repeat: Why is Charles Rangel (D, NY-15) Still Ways and Means Chair?

What is Speaker Pelosi thinking?

Just so you know, people will keep asking this question. Including, these days, the New York Times:

The Congressman, the Donor and the Tax Break

Representative Charles B. Rangel has helped raise $11 million for a City College of New York school of public service to be named in his honor. In recent months, as questions have emerged about his fund-raising, he has insisted that he has kept his efforts to attract donors scrupulously separate from his official duties in Congress.

But Congressional records and interviews show that Mr. Rangel was instrumental in preserving a lucrative tax loophole that benefited an oil-drilling company last year, while at the same time its chief executive was pledging $1 million to the project, the Charles B. Rangel School of Public Service at C.C.N.Y.

The New York Times has figured out a way to blame this ultimately on Republicans, so they’re cleared themselves for going full guns on Rangel – which they proceeded to do, so go ahead and read the whole thing. For my part, I repeat:

Under the circumstances, and until this is cleared up, I don’t want him to have oversight over the House committee that regulates the American tax code.

So why don’t the Democrats agree?

We can start guessing, if you like.

Charlie is a perfect W&M chair for the dems:
He is corrupt so he can be controlled. He is racist and hard core left, so he is reliable.
He is stupid, so he will do what he is told.

  • Scope

Nancy wants to keep every seat she can with a D after their name so they can continue to cover up their corruption while hypocritically claiming to be the most ethical congress in history. Rangle doesn’t just raise money for institutions that carry his name, he gave Periello of VA $7,000 for his campaign. And Periello’s campaign was corrupt. I expect to hear today that Goode is asking for a recount.

While the charges above are very serious, Rangles role along with Dodd in being a big part of the Fanny/Freddie Financial Meltdown are just as, if not more, serious. Isn’t that to be investigated? The R’s need to push that to every limit they can. Then his tax evasion charges will look like child’s play.

The company, Nabors Industries…

Mr. Rangel also said that the pledge from the Nabors chief executive, Eugene M. Isenberg, one of the largest the school received, played no role in his decision to protect the loophole, and maintained that he did not even know about it until this summer, more than a year later. His aides said he also later pushed tax legislation that would have adversely affected Nabors and hundreds of other offshore companies, though those efforts came to naught.

So, either Rangel is corrupt or oblivious. Either way, why is this guy anywhere near setting tax policy?

because the Constitution provides that the House and Senate writes their own rules.
Anyone who expects that those ‘rules’ will be fair and honest………is living in a fool’s paradise.

    Wow:

In 2006 the MSM went after the Republicans because they were protecting Foley for sending some emails. Too bad for us Rangel didn’t write a naughty email or said a naughty word and than the MSM will toast him.

Oh wait a minute he’s a Democrat! They don’t care about Democrat corruption.

BUT I voted for the Republican candidate,
Edward Daniels, who received 9% of the vote, vs. 88% for Rangel.

Fundamentally, I don’t think a Congressional district should be a politician’s permanent fiefdom. I think it lowers the quality of public debate.
Also, I went on to Daniels’ website and was impressed by his grassroots political orientation.

I didn’t know about the Rangel conflict of interest re Nabors. However, it doesn’t surprise me at all. Democratic cronyism is rampant in New York. And If Sen. Clinton joins the Cabinet, it will be on view for the whole nation to watch.

Since I’m talking about my voting, I probably should reveal my choice for President — just to get it out in the open

Still has some pull. Plus, they have to shoot their former followers.

Democrats have been tiptoeing around Rangle for more than two years now, and so it’s no surprise that he’s been able to get away with as much as he has. They certainly don’t want to take a figurative Samurai sword to him. Maybe they’re afraid of the Scientology Security Forces, who apparently know how to shoot to kill.

but I googled and discovered what you were referring to:

    very interesting, thanks

When the New York Church opened there was a glorious photograph on their website showing Rangel standing at the altar, complete with the article, which you can see here:

I thought only Republicans used government as a springboard to help their oil cronies?

Well this is a total surprise.

  • RINOSafari

But that comment was supposed to be:

“Wait a sec… I thought only Republicans used government to help out oil cronies.”
