FRONT PAGE CONTRIBUTOR

Good morning, *Mister* Jefferson.

The results are in for LA-02, and it is 49.55% for Anh “Joseph” Cao and 46.82% for William J Jefferson.  First things first: my apologies to Democratic voters in Louisiana’s Second District.  I did not believe that enough of you would be willing to put aside your partisan affiliation to cast a meaningful vote against rampant corruption.  The results have proven me wrong, and I am sorry for doubting your collective judgment.  And let me be the first to remind the future Rep. Cao that his seat is a privilege, not a right: there are a lot of voters out there tonight who have taken a leap of faith in trusting that you will serve them better.  I believe you to be worthy of that trust; may I not be proven wrong on this as well.

And now that we have that painful admission out of the way… as for you, Mister Jefferson.  Mister corrupt politician, Mister divert-rescue-personnel-to-clean-out-your-office, Mister blatant-nepotist, Mister IN. HIS. FREEZER!

(pause)

No.  You’re not worth it.

Go away.

a long time ago. How is it OK anddefended by Democrats when Democrats do the kinds of things that Jefferson did? Not a snarky peep out of Reid.

Meanwhile, at an Uptown art gallery, Jefferson, 61, a Harvard-educated attorney and former state Senator who was raised amid dire poverty in Lake Providence, La., said he thought voter fatigue contributed to his loss.

“Over three elections, I think people kind of ran out a little bit at the end of, I guess, the juice it takes to keep on going,” he said. “There were three very difficult elections and on Nov. 4, a lot of folks thought we already won.

“I’m sure that if we poll, somewhere out there in the 2nd District is a vast majority of people who support our campaign and who, had they voted today, would have expressed it,” he said.

Speaking to about 50 supporters who gave Jefferson a standing ovation when he entered the room, Jefferson thanked his family, labor leaders, local ministers and African-American voters, whom he praised as the “bedrock” of his political base.

…is that 46.82% of ol’ Cold Cash’s district still voted for him.

See, here is where William Jefferson made his major mistake. He did not run for office in Cook County, Illinois. See, if he had run from King Daley’s Chicago, he not only would have been easily reelected, but he would have gotten a raise out of the deal. Not only that, but the good people of Chicago would have given him a brand new freezer!

Do you really think it’s a habit to vote again for someone who is as morally bankrupt as this guy is?

    I don’t know.

I have to wonder about he morality of those who voted for him. Or maybe they are just that out of touch with current events.

I can’t reply to anything here. I get “Not Found” errors…

Erick Brockway: Um, you do realize Reid is in the Senate and Jefferson is in the House right? It was Nancy who stripped Jefferson of his position even though he hadn’t been actually charged with anything at the time if I remember right. That was the right move but against the wishes of the CBC who thought he should at least be charged with something first.

Of course, Jefferson looks guilty but at this point hasn’t been convicted of anything. Contrast that to all the people who actually voted for Stevens AFTER he was convicted. I’m pretty sure that has to be worse.

Of course Stevens got that standing ovation when leaving the Senate. I’m still ashamed at that.

    … it is a Criminal thing…

Wonder how much cash he actually lost via his Washer and Dryer (by not understanding the “term” money laundering). lol

I will speak only for me, about Stevens, in that I HAD hoped he would win in order to be REMOVED so that we could then retain the seat in a Special Election (hopefully with RS: Sarah Palin to US Senate). Moot point now, of course!

He’s not even worth mocking over his likely conviction, frankly.

in Alaska. The DNC should build a special shrine to the Public Integrity Section and give the SAIC their highest award.

BS conviction or no, the only way to have any hope of keeping the seat in Republican hands was to re-elect Stevens and have him step down and force a special election. Even with the best efforts of the USDOJ the RPA spent only $700K and change, $400K of which was from Alaska sources, on federal elections while the DNC and its adjuncts spent almost $4MM plus $300-500K/week from 527s and the like in attacks against Stevens and Young. For that, we kept Young and Stevens only lost by 3K and change.

And frankly, even today, no Republican in Alaska gives a damn what people Outside think of Ted Stevens.

  • ptort

is if he is not discredited enough through the courts, he will be back. Marion Barry and Alcee Hastings come to mind.

But this Jefferson defeat is still very sweet…very sweet indeed. It is nice to see every now and then that true justice can prevail.
