You may not be that far out of the loop there. I've often said, and there seems to be ample evidence coming out which supports this, that the United States is in danger of repeating the example of Rome. Like Rome, we started off as a republic declaring our freedom against an unpopular King and, like Rome, we're allowing the gradual corruption of our representatives in the Senate develop into a form of aristocratic dictatorship which, in time, may well lead to one or more rivals who just might decide that they don't need to even make the pretence of heeding the will of the people, so long as they keep enough of us stupid and happy with bread and circuses while they go about their bloody business. So much for that "noble experiment."

That's right, take THREE days off and let's see what that nets us! Work this just right and you won't only have a nice vacation from all of us, but it might get us actual pics of Dem politicians with knives held to each other's throats and their hands in each other's pockets.

Hmmnnn. Couldn't be that there's more corruption there, could it?
Perhaps Blago is sitting in Illinois thinking "I've got this thing and it's f^%$ golden." (The thing being the tactics of "Mutually Assured Destruction".)

If the third commentor in the link below has his facts straight,

<a href="http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=261603&src=109" rel="nofollow">Dems explain why they let governor make appointment </a>

then the Dems could block the appointment w/ an expedited impeachment.
It doesn't seem to me that they are in any rush. Wonder why?

he was literally the vehicle that put Blago in the Gov's mansion in 2002.

Blago was in a primary fight with Paul Vallas who was leading in the polls and very popular with the African American community because of his work in the Chicago Public Schools.

Lo and behold Roland Burris decides to throw his hat in the ring. Comes up with a mysterious $1M campaign donation, throws out a few ads in Crook County and makes a few appearances. End result was Burris took enough of the African American vote away from Vallas to give Blago the victory in a 3-way race and here we are.

And for that Mr. Burris – here is your Senate Seat!
